It depends on what you are judging the route on. In terms of sheer volume of buses the 52 must win hands down - when I wait for a 25/25A to Bradway there can be 3 52s in the stop at the same time. However on the rare occassion I have has reason to go to Broomhill or Crookes they magically vanish!

Of all the bus routes I use, the most reliable has to be the 293, although TM Travel took over that route this week, it still seems a solid performance! M17 is also very reliable, but doesn't really go anywhere useful!

However the 293 only runs Monday to Friday 7am-6pm, and only runs once an hour off peak and every 30 mins peak, so it loses a lot of points there - evening and weekend service would be nice.

yeah it depends on the meaning of 'best'.

Most frequent - 52!!

Most reliable - ????????

Cheapest - ???????

Cleanest - ??????

Has to be the 41,every six minutes and they are all brand new buses. And you tend to be able to pick which one you want as they tend to come in 3's

The No. 22 to nether edge or the 'magic bus' (#9)

One gets me to and from work without having to stop/start around all the witless car drivers blocking the bus lanes on Abbeydale rd

and the number 9 takes me to a special place neatly avoiding town completely

The number 95 always seemed frequent when I was a regular user of public transport.

95 was always good back when I used to live in Walkley and catch it outside the old Bole Hill school.

yeh i catch 95 all the time, it is quite a reliable bus, althought i still havent forgiven the driver that went streight past me even tho i flagged it down. wudnt have minded but there were no passengers on it so there was no excuse really

HAAHAAHAA

Loving the satire. 51 as an option for best bus route! I waited 30 mins this morning (as usual) when it clearly states on the side 'every 10 minutes (or more)'. When I got on, of course, there were hundreds of screaming kids who all got off at my stop (for obvious reasons). And of course I was late. AGAIN.

Change a couple of the 52s?

Is it just a coincidence that the 'best' routes seem to be the few competative ones. I can't imagian First cutting back on services on a route like 52 the way they have on non-competative ones.

If you cut frequency on a monopoly route you don't really loose any passenger numbers because people are forced to wait longer and the bus will be more crowded when it finally arrives. On a competative route though if you cut frequencies your rival will take custom from you.

The 8 and 9 buses are great ..... but only when they turn up!!! It would be better if they were more than every hour, as I can't rely on them. Many times one hasn't turned up, so I've had to to wait an hour for the next one!!

Any bus route has to be better than the 37 from Chapeltown to Meadowhall (via Timbuktu).

By the time I arrived at the shopping complex the Oasis had developed a super-modern upstairs seating area....

the best bus route depends on where they originate from, the 95 is brill from walkley but it does serve 4 destinations which then only get one every so often, some every 1/2 hour, some do not turn up at all so there will always be plenty at walkley but not at destinations, and it also depends on where you are going to and from where, anywhere towards ecclesall are pretty often if you can get a number of buses and do not have to wait for a specific number. there does seem to be plenty of 52's & 41's & 60's but not many others.

Doesn't it kind of depend on the direction you want to go in. If you want to head east, then a bus going south isn't going to be the best one....etc. The best one is the one that is taking you to where you want to go...at the end of the day!

True.... it's just that there's precious few RELIABLE services in areas I want to go, such as from Town to Stannington.

Best bus ROUTE: 41 (to castle college)town<>halway, the 41's are frequent, clean and being double deckers have a seat to yourself(normally) and run till just before midnight. But it is the best route because they are similar routes to it, the 95, the 21, 53, 120, and the 132.

Route 50 only runs every half hour and that's peak times. This has to be one of the worst in Sheffield. Even Stannington does better than this.

Route 50 goes though all the nice areas just like the 82/83's.

But I have seen a number 50 at Dore this afternoon, whilst Rich in Stannington is still waiting for a 83a ( Poor Sod )

i totally disagree with the poll at the min!

only last week did i leave my house at 4:20 pm to get on a 5:15pm train.
i waited 20 mins for an every 6 min bus, then the bus driven was talking to a friend all the way down to town. i got to orchard square at 5:13 and was fuming.
I told the bus driver i would be reporting him to his highers and took his name and bus number down and rang the first mainline people, they said they would have a word (VERY DOUBTFULL)

I got to the train station 5 mins late and had to wait an extra 1hr 34mins for my train. after leaving 20 mins earlier than i could have!! Fing DISGRACFULL!!!

I was noit pleased
