xsarahbabex 04-09-2006, 19:54 Bad Crowd???
Sunny "The Snake" Singh , Beserk Adam, SarahBabe now those 3 hooligans are a VERY bad crowd. All of them drink too much, stay out too late and drag everyone else down with them! Avoid them at AFK socials like the plague! Then you have "Bad dudes" such as James Hemstock and Amjed "Manfredo" Shaffique whose antics are too much to discuss on a public forum !
Ha nice to say ur trying to build our reputations farhad :hihi: :hihi:

Taekwondo,
Good for kicks, mostly pretty flashy kicks as opposed to powerful kickboxing kicks (with shin and knee). Taekwondo kick with the foot. They tend to be really poor with the hands though and not very good for close range.
Better than nothing I guess,. try it out.
oh and have fun doing ur planning, whilst am still on my hols and got no work 2 b doing! ahhh the student life hehe
ill c wot i can find up there.. it might be that my uni starts a club. but it depends on how many ppl are interested. hopefully find a kickboxing club!

If your uni starts a club, the first thing you will need is a good instructor!
In all honesty they arent that common. someone who knows and understands the sport and knows the ins and outs and can also pass on what they know in an effective manner.
Again better than nothing I guess.
yeh okidoke. well i will pos c u 2moz or mon.... will be one of the 2! sorry bout the gloves.
Hey X fix, dont make me jealous with all your free time!! Maybe see you Monday!!
Davemantis 16-09-2006, 09:26 Catt that photo of you don’t do you any justice. :wow:
And I think you owe me one :hihi: LOL
Crayfish 16-09-2006, 15:04 Agreed, you look far less like a purple cartoon feline in real life ;)
Last night was great fun, just debating whether to go to the cagewarriors thing tonight! There were some good fights, nice mix of a couple of technical match ups and spirited brawling. Nice to see so many familiar faces too!
xsarahbabex 16-09-2006, 16:34 yeaaah was a good night!Deffos some great fights (yes rowdy thats you lol)
nice seein u again after 3 years crayfish!!!!!

Lol, my avatar is an origami cat, i cant actually fold myself up in quite the same way but i think theres a passing resemblance. Lol.
sarahbabe, you were WORKIN hard last night...coming training tomorrow?
I think you owe me one :hihi: LOL
I'll come see you next time i need to push in. Lol.
Incidentally, did you get enough to eat last night urban pebbles? Lol.
Crayfish 16-09-2006, 19:54 Lol, my avatar is an origami cat, i cant actually fold myself up in quite the same way but i think theres a passing resemblance. Lol.

So Crayfish , did you go to cagewarriors fights then?
I was invited but was simply too tired and wanted to chill out for a day.
Pity , sounds like it was a good card on paper.
Crayfish 17-09-2006, 17:14 No, I didn't! Was debating it but decided that sitting on my ass at home was the way forward for the night. And a good sit it was too.
Not surprised you were tired after running around arranging all that :) Went very well though I thought!

Thank you for the support and appreciation. I was exhausted mentally then I had to drive the 2 judges home to london and derby :help:
What was a real pain in the arse was people pulling out for various reasons and me having to rewrite the fight card due to matching and rematching all the fights.
The fighters from ACE in Derby turning up late meant I had to hold back the show and rewrite the fight order.
well you did great... the drive must have been a real chore...should have put them on a train... ;-)
BTW, got to go to a funeral tomorrow :-(..... but i might still make it to training.
Davemantis 18-09-2006, 11:26 CATT
Lol, my avatar is an origami cat, i cant actually fold myself up in quite the same way Lol.
I think if I folded like that I would turn Blue lol:shakes:
You are only a little thing I think you can do it.
but i think theres a passing resemblance.
where i cant see it???
The other two lasses sat with you didn’t say a lot are they always like that???
and next time i think you should do the Ring Girl :hihi: ;)
Merry_Legs 18-09-2006, 11:44 Incidentally, did you get enough to eat last night urban pebbles? Lol.
Cheeky! The food was gorgeous, and I did have a bit of help.
Davemantis - I would have chatted more but Catt kept pushing in, I didn't want to get in her way cos she'd punch me !
Davemantis 18-09-2006, 11:48 who was u????
are you the one that told me you are to old for the ring ????
i think from what i was told i got your age wrong
Merry_Legs 18-09-2006, 12:04 Hi Dave,
Yes I thought I might be a bit old to fight (I was in the green top, sat next to Catt) I thought I would have done it if I was younger, but having seen the standard I think I'd have no teeth left by now!
chefkicker 18-09-2006, 13:30 Hi Dave,
Yes I thought I might be a bit old to fight (I was in the green top, sat next to Catt) I thought I would have done it if I was younger, but having seen the standard I think I'd have no teeth left by now!
Urban Pebbles ,
You training tonight?
BEGINNERS CLASSES:
MONDAY 830 PM
THURSDAY 830PM
SUNDAY 12PM
There you go , bringing this discussion back on track :P
Now you lot can carry on talking about Friday night
U.P see you tonight?
Davemantis 18-09-2006, 14:46 Urban_Pebbles
Now i remember you, still I don’t think you are that old not like me lol so who was sat next to you??? Told you im old you start to lose your mind at my age lol
Yep the teeth thing is the big down side but that’s why there have false teeth lol
Cheeky! The food was gorgeous, and I did have a bit of help.
Davemantis - I would have chatted more but Catt kept pushing in, I didn't want to get in her way cos she'd punch me !
Lol, you did get a fair bit of help from a certain young lady it has to be said... you'd have thought the poor girl hadnt eaten for a week, it was all she was interested in. Lol. I was lucky to get a breadstick to myself....oh ok, i did cain the whole packet!! Lol. As for attempting to land a punch on you....i think not, i've seen you in action and my pathetic little taps wouldnt cut it. You only look 25 max so i rekon your having us on about your age and should just get in that ring anyways. Who needs front teeth? Lol.
CATT
I think if I folded like that I would turn Blue lol:shakes:

Well you know how you only have to flick a piece of paper and it falls down, thats about my level of strength... so theres one likeness. Lol. As for those two girls, well they're just damn right rude if you ask me. The only thing either of them could think about on Friday was food. No matter how angelic the pair of them might look, they'd ko all the fighters easy just for a bite of carrot cake... seriously, your better off putting up wih me pushing in than trying to get a conversation out of them when foods on their minds. Lol. ;-)
Oh my, they usually have mercy on me but i'll be pounded to a pulp next time they gatecrash the beginners classes....Lol.

Who were those two lasses?
Was it Jo and Kathryn?
Yes you are right Kathryn would have had half the fighters on the card anyway, well at least any of the -70kg fighters, she'd have struggled with the bigger guys though.
Lol. yep. ;-) see yer tonight Chef...
Oh and Chef... you left off

Hi Blondenutter
Turn up Monday /Thursday at 830pm or Sunday at 12 midday if youre a beginner.
Numbers vary but average about 10-12 people. Just the right number for a good atmosphere but not too crowded so that you get the right amount of instructor time.
See you down there
Farhad
blondenutter 22-10-2006, 21:18 cheers will do - can't make i this week - working lates all week - but defo the week after.

Left your trousers in the gym,.. oooooeer!!! Sounds dodgy!!!
Mind you I dont mind you leaving your trousers in the gym if your changing into that lovely tartan skirt :)
Lol. You wind up merchant Chef..it WAS NOT tartan. Lol. And i only left my trousers cause you made me change into that clown outfit...sulk...Lol. I'm watching the fireworks out of my window ;-)
They rise like sudden firey flowers that burst upon the night
Then fall to earth in burning showers of crimson blue and white...

I MADE you ??? This is starting to sound like an "adults only" thing :P
Clown outfit??? Kickboxing trousers are a damn side smarter than tracksuit bottoms/leggings!
Merry_Legs 06-11-2006, 11:57 So did you grade in tartan silky trousers? I suppose the clown make-up will have done you some favours ;) I don't think Davemantis likes us anymore, he has a new favourite :(
Davemantis 06-11-2006, 15:03 you know you are the only girls for me :o ;) :hihi: lol
Berserk Adam 09-11-2006, 22:39 I really need to see the faces behind these forumers.

Davemantis 15-11-2006, 11:58 i think you should get me a drink this time cat lol
You'll be lucky, cheeky. I might buy Chef one cause hes a proper gent and give me lifts, even if his car is full of pop bottles!!Lol. :-)
Davemantis 16-11-2006, 12:35 and after i got you 1 lol
skibunny 20-11-2006, 17:28 I wanted to come to my first class tonight at Wellington Street, but have wussed out. I'm worried that I'm just too unfit right now to be able to keep up with a class. Is everyone else a go to the gym all the time super fit type? Kind of a catch 22..too unfit to go and the only way to get fit is to do more exercise!
richardquinn 20-11-2006, 23:16 hi skibunny
im one of the assistant instructors at the gym, i know how u feel as i have had a lot of people feel the same in the past, dont worry about your fittness levels, you work at your own rate which means that if u feel tired then u can take it easier. in time you fittness levels will increase and u will look back and wonder what it is that you are worried about now. we also run a beginners class at hallam uni up at Colegiate campus where i also help teach, the sessions are 7.30- 8.30 on both a tuesday and thursday. these sessions are purely beginners and it is a great mixture of males and females. like i said dont worry about your fittness levels as they will improve, everyone has been in the same situation as you in the past so dont worry about it. i hope to see you down at the gym soon.
Chef...Cheers for the lift!! :-) i still cant do a jumping back kick...sob. Lol. ;-)

I can believe that youre a 3rd Dan and possibly your credentials in Karate/Taekwondo but those claims of you being 7 times British and 1 time european champion in kickboxing do sound like outlandish claims.
I am well versed in the kickboxing scene and to be honest, I had never heard of you as a kickboxer. I had heard your name as a semi contact fighter but not as a kickboxer. I have reffereed you in the light contact and know your standard and in all honesty you are not bad BUT definitely not british or european championship standard.
No disrespect meant of course.
In future be happy with what you have got and dont try to make exaggerated claims especially in front of those who know what they are on about.
Again no disrespect meant just stating my honest opinion which is based on actual knowledge.
Peace

(with regards to the broomgrove class's i suppose)
Hey all,
Looking to get back into kick boxing - though haven’t done it for years and years (bear belly bloat later)
I’ve done a little karate, kick boxing and tia boxing at uni a few years back, i would still class my self as a beginner although i should think after a few months training and fitness improvements i would be getting back to my self.
I came to couple of class's in my 2nd year of uni when tia boxing closed down but was a little out of my depth in the later class's and the first class's were rammed full. Am i ok to come along to the beginner class's and just start from the basics or are they still really busy?
Cheers
Lew

lol, very surreal. I seem to remember not too long ago a certain instructor bigging up his "kickboxing" British champions.

Hi Chefkicker
I've trained in lau gar kung fu in Barnsley for 6 years (1st degree) and have started Royce Gracie BJJ in the last few months.
Would like to come along for a few pointers and help etc. and see what's what. What equipment would I need to bring if any? Would either Tues or Fri be OK?
Not particularly interested in comps. but some realistic techniques wouldn't go a miss.
Many Thanks

Hi Farhad
Congratulations on the last show I heard from the guys it was a great night.

Not picking fights..... just pointing out hypocrisy of the worst kind.
That class was quality - just what ive been looking for
although i feel like ive been hit by a train this morning just from 1 hour of light excersise.. how unfit am i!! haha
Thanks Chefkicker. Am working away at the moment so not sure I'll be able to make the Friday session for a couple of weeks. But hopefully will be there one Friday very soon.
Kick boxing pants? = will shorts do?
Cheers
I think some of my mates might train with you i.e. Ravi (I'm a physio student too)

Do you see anyone else making the same accusations...no! so if you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say it...or perhaps u could present your arguments in a less infantile way? OR back to my original idea: get a pet?

Nice one Sarahbabe ,
See you tomorrow morning I hope :)
Hi guys : Ceej and lewjam.
Lewjam, you gave 110% and your kicks were strong. I hope you benefit from the training at AFK in more ways than one and exceed your personal expectations.
Hi Ceej, Ravi won on our last show. Hes a good kickboxer once he gets rid of the butterlies ;) Shorts are ok, see you soon!
Chinny_Lynne 30-11-2006, 08:06 Lol, i think you're missing my point.
Do you see anyone else making the same accusations...no!
errr, yes...... actually that would be Fraudhad. I hope you can see the irony in him bigging up his own fighters as FC kickboxers, but forgetting to mention their LC background. But then being quite happy to rag on someone else for doing the same.
or perhaps u could present your arguments in a less infantile way?
That would be difficult, i'm pretty immature. But then isn't it pretty infantile to be sticking up for your buddy, without actually understanding what he is being accused of?
OR back to my original idea: get a pet?
I have a pet; but unfortunatley my cat (Keith) is suffering from a rare chest infection, and is quite sick at the vets. Fingers crossed for him.
Freddylee 30-11-2006, 10:05 chinny lynne you clainm to be a fighter but you dont back your words up with action.
farhad has done that already hes been there done that (so have i if you like to test me in the ring contact farhad)
saying his name as fraudhad instead of farhad i think is racially offensive. im not the same racial origin as farhad but the name farhad we prononunce it in my culture as "farr-hod" different way to farhads culture but it is used in my country as well.
you shoiw yourself to be very ignorant in kickboxing. Farhads last 2 shows was full contact kickboxing and i mean proper fully full on full contact with leg kicks and knees not just general american style!
He also has done light continuous and full contact and so have i. And he has titles in both discaplines
What about you?

Lol @ Farhads titles. He has a record of 6 fights with 2 wins if i'm not mistaken, and he's fought for some 2-bit Mickey mouse belt. Well done, really!

A few posters on this thread have previously received a reminder form the Mods to stop the bitching and bickering on these threads.
This is the only other warning I'm posting - anyone who snipes or bickers after this will probably be looking at a longish ban.
Thanks
Merry_Legs 30-11-2006, 12:01 Dunno, could talk about the weather - it's warm for this time of year init? or, what you getting for Christmas? or to bring it back on topic we could talk about kickboxing. I'm getting a sore throat now after all that talking. :gag:
Davemantis 30-11-2006, 12:04 i think some fingers might be a little sore after all that typing lol
so why should some1 take up kickboxing what’s the plus side????

Wellington street boxing gym is near the fire station in the town centre and also near the Devonshire cat pub.
The gym is fully equipped and has everything from weights to bags, to speedball/floor and ceiling ball and a boxing ring for sparring.
All the classes are taught by kickboxers with actual kickboxing ring experience. All instructors are patient and used to dealing with people at all levels from a nervous first timer, to sports people/athletes who simply use kickboxing to further their main sports aims right up to full contact kickboxers.
AFK has something for everyone.

Numero uno...i'm not as u put it "sticking up for my buddy" i'm simply saying that you should perhaps say productive comments instead of finding pointlessy negative things to say about someone whose name you have yet to know how to write/pronounce.
Numero dos...Yes he does big up his fighters (so???) but i have also heard him say negative things too (when necessary) so perhaps you shouldn't write your ill-judged conceptions on here before you've heard all sides of the story.
Numero tres...Fingers crossed for your cat.My cat Jack says meow as well and gives Keith a purr for good luck!!!!:) :)

chefkicker 26-12-2006, 18:20 So Chef, when's the next class...? Get my card? ;-)
Hi Catt, not yet no, I will have to check the post today though.
The next class is Wednesdat at Goodwin centre, or Friday at the gym .
Friday sessions are going to be rather informal for this and next week. I open at 6pm and close at 830pm .
Crayfish should be there if he has recovered from the PM i sent him ;)
Informal sounds good. ;-) I feel well out of it...am really unfit at the mo...:-(
Crayfish 26-12-2006, 22:09 I'm getting over it, slowly but surely. Poor concept of forward planning is starting to make Friday look a bit 50/50 though for my attendance, I have two close friends with birthdays and big parties on the 29th. Do you do Thursday mornings any more?
Talking of unfitness, I was quite fit, but then I ate constantly for three days solid... :)
chefkicker 28-12-2006, 15:59 Informal sounds good. ;-) I feel well out of it...am really unfit at the mo...:-(
No worries Catt, ill make sure I do a little bit with you on the pads,..etc.
See you tomorrow. What time are you dropping in? We open at 6pm.
Crayfish has bottled it after my inflammatory PM :P

Is Fireman Mick still fighting? When is next AFK full contact night?
cha00kaw 07-01-2007, 21:11 Hi folks, I was planning to come along to the 8.30 session tomorrow with a friend and just had some quick questions:
Where exactly is the gym on Wellington street? I walked along it the other day but couldn't spot it.

Megatron 07-01-2007, 21:55 I finished early today at 4:30PM. :D I was rushing home to get ready to party... and curry before alcohol is never a good idea...:gag:
Who's active then down at AFK at minute that i know of?
Is Fireman Mick still fighting? When is next AFK full contact night?
The next AFK fight night is February 16th. Check out more on the new AFK forum, I can't post the URL as being a newly registered user I have to make 15 posts. chefkicker has a link to the new AFK site on his signature (see 3 posts back on this thread).
chefkicker 08-01-2007, 15:09 Hi folks, I was planning to come along to the 8.30 session tomorrow with a friend and just had some quick questions:
Where exactly is the gym on Wellington street? I walked along it the other day but couldn't spot it.
How much is it for a session?
What sort of clothes to wear? is tracksuit bottoms and a shirt ok?
Cheers, and see you tomorrow,
Karl
Hi Karl
When you walk down wellington street, you will see 2 identical boxing gyms. One on the corner , ours is next door to that. Its also next door to a print shop and there is a car garage down the street as well.
It is £4 per session and trackies and a T shirt are ok.
Ring me on 07775 914155 if you get lost.

What about a monthly payment? Let’s say three or four beginner’s sessions a week; and the hours: only after 6 in the afternoon (if that’s possible).

Sure thing thats not a problem. If you want to work it that way. Some people do the monthly payment system all depends on how many sessions you want a week.

chefkicker 14-03-2007, 16:37 This thread is about kickboxing for beginners so I shall return to the topic.
BEGINNERS CLASSES :
MONDAY 830PM , THURSDAY 830PM , SUNDAY 12-130PM (Wellington Street)
TUESDAY/THURSDAY 730PM (Sheffield Hallam University, Broomgrove Road)
WEDNESDAY 6-7PM ( Usport , Goodwin sports centre)
Female only class = THURSDAY 730PM (Wellington street boxing gym)
Want to just do your own thing and be coached on a few finer points (wether beginner or advanced) :
FRIDAY 6-7PM
Or, if you have done kickboxing before or another martial art to a decent standard,
EXPERIENCED CLASSES :
MONDAY 630-830PM (Wellington Street Boxing gym)
TUESDAY/THURSDAY 830-930pm (Sheffield Hallam University, Broomgrove Road)
FRIDAY 7-830PM (Wellington street boxing gym)
Visiting martial artists/boxers/kick or thaiboxers from other gyms are always welcome and regularly make an appearance at AFK.
We seem to be getting members from Royce Gracie BJJ club, Tangsoodo and also quite a few amateur boxers seem to be giving kickboxing a try. All of them add to the multi cultural/multi style sort of flavour at AFK.

KiKAsSCoMbAT 11-05-2007, 09:24 Yes I know Lethal Latif quite well I see him in the mosque a lot during the Ramadan fasting month every year.
Seems like a nice enough guy. I know he was quite an accomplished Semi Contact Points fighter. I dont know his relevance to kickboxing though in all honesty the sport he is very good at is as far removed from kickboxing as cricket is from rugby to be honest.
Send him my regards all the same if you see him.
Hey Chefkicka...Im new in this forum...i would like 2 join sum kikckboxing club...Ive erd Someone calld lethal latif is very talented and succesful...Dyu Knw nefing bwt him?? have you ever trained with him? Wat would you reccomend?

Latif is a decent guy from what I have seen of him. I know he can handle himself outside (no one does a runner on him when he does taxis lol). Hes a really good athlete, ive heard he does crazy things like runs up hills with rocks in his rucksack.
I have also heard he was a very good semi contact points fighter.
I cant comment on any of his kickboxing background as I have never seen or heard of him kickboxing.
I know people who have trained with him and they say that he is hardcore.
As for recommendations, my advice is use your own intelligence , try everything and seek your own path.

Av u won any major tournaments or anything ur sound quite experianced n skilld...
chefkicker 12-05-2007, 12:13 Hi Kickass Combat.
The times for our sessions are below. Wellington street is near the fire station in the town centre.
If you are happy with training with Latif then why do you need to change?
as a matter of fact I have just sent Latif a text message to invite him to put some fighters on my next full contact show on the 1st of June.
I have seen kickboxing shows where instructors put on "any old crap" to fight and the standard of the fights has been "**** poor" pardoning my french. At AFK events, all of the fighters are required to be of a decent standard so only the GOOD clubs will ever put fighters on my shows i.e. the real warriors.
Good luck in your search.

Jediwarrior,
To call Latif a "dreamer " I would say that is harsh and incorrect but hey you know him better than I do I presume.
In all honesty this thread is about kickboxing for BEGINNERS!!!
So shall we keep this thread that way rather than go on about "who is the soldier of XYZ" or which Kickboxer ABC won the PQR championships of planet EFG.
Thank you guys.
jediwarrior 13-05-2007, 19:34 i like latif and he has his good qualities and he is very dedicated to his trainin i`ll give him that and will help anyone who needs help
Hi guys, I will be starting Hallam Uni next month, and I am interested in learning kickboxing in the near future.
I am just wondering if the sporthallam card includes your classes?
I dont mind if it doesnt, I just wondered ;)
Also I have just reaced the ripe old age of 30, and I am wondering if you have many people over 25 there? Dont want to feel like an old codger :P

Hi Reebo
The sporthallam GOLDCARD includes 2 kickboxing classes a week (Tuesday and Thursday at 730pm) . There are quite a few mature students so dont worry about it. Even I am over 25 myself :hihi: not by much admittedly but still over 25 :D
My advice is dont waste any time get down there as soon as the coruse starts and book your classes 6 days in advance as the hallam university classes fill up VERY quickly.
Now if you cant get onto a sport hallam class, we do Beginners classes at the Wellington street gym in town at 830pm on Mondays and Thursdays.
Thanks for the info. If the hallam classes are full I dont mind going to wellington street.
Im planning on getting used to juggling work and uni first, so i'll probably see you in mid october sometime.
