View Full Version : Ipod video....worth it or not??? fayel 11-01-2006, 14:42 im thinking about buying an ipod video is there anyone here thats got one that can tell me abit about them & if there any good??? mr chris 11-01-2006, 15:04 I'd have to say yes. There are a few other threads on the forum about ipods. Search them out and make your own mind up. xafier 11-01-2006, 15:11 what are you after? a music player or a PMP (personal media player)? iPods aren't the best media players, they're also not the best PMP's either... what they are good at is fantastically great advertising! you should check out the new iPod Flea http://gprime.net/video.php/ipodflea :D daleam 11-01-2006, 16:27 iPods are one of the best music players in the world IMO (notice I said 'one of', before anyone starts). If you need or really want the video, then sure, go for it. Even if you don't want the video, you don't have to use it, just play music. If you don't need 30-60gigs of space, then look around for Mini's (4&6GB, you can still get them from Choices Video I believe) and of course the Nano (2&4GB), which I can say is a really good piece of kit. If you are gunna use it for jogging, gym etc. Then go with a Nano, or dare I say it, a Shuffle (512MB&1GB), these are flash memory based players as opposed to the 'grown up' iPods that have HDD's that tend to skip when 'jigged' around, but you probably know that already. In the end it all comes down to personal preference, pop into the Apple Store in Meadowhell, they have tons of iPods that you can use, see which one/s you prefer. Also take a look at iLounge.com, the discussions section. ole1 11-01-2006, 17:53 I got the 60gig in black... worth every penny. I wouldn't touch an ugly white ipod tho... just looks awful. Only thing u really got to bear in mind is accessories can be expensive... but still well worth the money. :D dxmedia 16-01-2006, 22:14 Archos - they make decent PMP's, Ipod screens are tiny, and low resolution (and also very very pricey), also the storage is quite limited (only 60Gb, that's not many movies), try going for something 100Gb or above - it will be more furture proof). If your looking for anMP3 player, have a look at the new sony's, ipods have always suffered from poor sound reporduction (94% flutter - compaired to say 98+% on creative and sony). One thing apple have is plenty of additional support, and very very good marketing ANGELUS 16-01-2006, 23:25 Originally posted by fayel im thinking about buying an ipod video is there anyone here thats got one that can tell me abit about them & if there any good??? Do it mate! I got mine at xmas I wont ever look back or regret the decision. Its fab- it plays movies (although you have to convert them to a quicktime or MP4 format for them to play- which is simple to do) wonderfully well and the larger screen is crystal sharp when playing video also. Get yourself one- you'll be glad you did :) Captain_Scarlet 17-01-2006, 08:20 Get an iRiver, cheaper, more hard drive space, better screen quality and larger screen. Can't beat a decent quality product that Angelus doesn't know about ;) floyd77 17-01-2006, 08:42 At the risk of giving 'Ipod Angelus' a heart attack for re-hashing this subject ;)- I've been viewing movies etc on my Iriver for a couple of years now - cant fault it - plus there is a simple piece of software (Iriverter) to convert any video file into the right format, and its all free. Far better piece of kit than the Ipod too, in that every person I know who has/had an Ipod of some kind, has had a problem of some kind. Have a look at www.misticriver.net (http://www.misticriver.net/forums.php) forums for a non-blinkered view. (well, less blinkered!) |
