A bus driver told me this morning that there had been an accident on the "top road" and so all the traffic was going through Chapeltown.

I don't know if this had some sort of knock on effect

It wasn't that hard to guess there was an accident somewhere down there

I was waiting for a bus in Grenoside from about 7.40 until it, and the rest of the traffic, finally came along around 8.20.

Between those times i saw a couple of ambies, coppers and fire engines and alot of stupid drivers.

Still, i kept thinking why the police don't setup diversions in those cases, not hard is it, couple of coppers spread about.

You might get two, maybe three bobbies at a typical RTC. One/two will be protecting the scene and ensuring that drivers don't try to weave through the wreckage (seen it done before now at serious RTC's). The other will be taking details of the drivers and vehicles involved and trying to get the road cleared as quick as possible.

Maybe drivers should listen to traffic reports and take an alternative route? Not hard is it...

(It was Salt Box Lane I believe)

What was Saltbox lane ??

I'm not sure exactly where the accident took place but it wasn't in grenoside itself.

My guess is the bends going towards bracken hill turn-off, since being stood at the bus stop near the Norfolk Arms, the emergency services had to use the on-coming lane with their sirens on and they weren't long out of sight before they were turned off.

Saltbox wouldn't be much use unless you're going over to Oughtibridge or along the Woodhead road towards the stocksbridge bypass, neither of which meet with the A61

The diversions for (light) traffic could be down Elliot lane and up whitley (or vice-versa but that'd be quite dodgy, alternatively down to Chapeltown, Ecco then back up thru PX on wordsworth to get back to the A61

Still, without directions, if you're not 'local' then you wouldn't know any better routes.

The stupid drivers i refer to are the one wanting to go up Norfolk hil turn right out of Whitley lane, instead of the more sensible Salt box, School or Blacksmith lane
