Recommended Posts

Hi, we have just recently bought a motorhome and fancy 2 weeks touring Scotland next year, any suggestions on route, stops, or sites would be appreciated, we will be taking our dog and going probably mid June.

Take midge repelant, or get a taste for tonic water.

Depends on how far North you want to go. Wild camping is legal in Scotland, provided that you do it responsibly, so there are plenty of options for stopovers.

From Glasgow, take the A82 north past Loch Lomond and through Glencoe to Fort William. Take the Road to the Isles to Mallaig and then a ferry across to Skye. Come back across to the mainland via the bridge and head round the coast to Ullapool.

From there either continue north along the coast, or head back towards Inverness. from Inverness, head South into the Cairngorms, and then onto Pitlochry, Perth and Edinburgh.

Not a bad route Flying Duck, although I would do Pitlochry on the way up, then on the way down, come through inverness and Nairn, down to Grantown on Spey and Ballater (close by to where the Queen's Balmoral Castle is), move along to Aberdeen (the granite city, some fantastic architecture) and on down the east coast on the way back to Edinburgh.

While in Aberdeen, don't forget to sample Aberdeen butteries (from a bakery), and also Sweetheart Stout and Stovies (from anywhere) while in Scotland.

Either way, have fun.
