I am trying to burn some video files I have with Nero. Firstly I need to put them through Nero Recode to make them fit to my blank dvd. However when i open the folder that the files are in, in Recode, Nero cannot see them, just some other folders that are stored in that folder. The video files are in .avi format, Nero is v.7 and I run on xpsp2, if that helps. Why can I not see these files?

Generally from what I remember of Nero it wont usually burn avis as a video disc as theyre compressed.

If you burn the disc as data rather than a video disc, that'll work better.

And your videos will still play in the DVD player in over 90% of cases unless your player is some crap bargain bin el cheapo machine.

hmmmmm

strange

never used recode

BUT

nero should recognise most files, and it does recognise avis, it wont burn em as a dvd / videocd but itll encode em as mpgs straight away

best advice mate dont even bother if you've got nero you havent got a prayer, bets thing to do is buy better burning software.

well I just replaced roxio with nero cos everyone said that was the best....

roxio is the pits

i think youll find most people swear by nero, yes theres free packages, but i dont think they do as many different formats as nero and are less stable and less user friendly

the only black marks i can think of with nero tbh are the sheer bloat with all the crap they now stick in the installer

and if you encode to mpg using nero you "can", tho not always, get multiplexing problems (ie:- the audio goes out of sync with the video) i use a seperate encoder to do that

Yeah, most people do swear BY Nero, however we tend to swear AT Roxio... :P

Its not Recode you need, its Nero VisionExpress. That will covert the .avi files to a format that can be read by DVD players, and compress them to burn to a DVD

Personally, I'd keep away from Nero, it's cheap software bundled in with drives and OEM installs, try something like alcohol 120%

ok I may be confused here but isnt alcohol formatting software rather than burning software?
