1. Def Leppard
2. Bon Jovi
3. Van Halen
4. KISS
5. Tin Machine (joke!! Just wanted to throw David Bowie in for good measure.)

My degree would suggest that the above, especially #1 and #2 are classified as 'heavy rock' although Def Leppard pioneered the 'new wave of British heavy metal.' And I shall be partying with them tomorrow night...!!

P.S. panda- what happened to your infactuation with Rik Waller?

I dunno Linkin Park are quite good but I wouldn't class them totally as metal - a bit of agrey area too with Cypress Hill.

I have to say I am into Evanescence at the moment but I wouldn't rank them up there because of other bands on offer - anyone remember Machine Head and White Zombie *sniff*

Are machinehead not still around?

I remember seeing in Manchester at the University was great fun. IIRC One Minute Silence were also supporting them who are also excellent live.

Cypress Hill are a hip hop group but some of the recent stuff has been rock e.g. Bones Disc from Skull & Bones album. Saw them live at Eminem gig in Milton Keynes last summer - they were definitely the highlight of it for me - absolutely amazing, played most of the old classics - basically the Black Sunday album :D :D :D

1) American Head Charge (only one album but it's fantastic!)
2) Pantera (Greatest guitar solos ever!)
3) System of a Down
4) Fear Factory
5) Iron Maiden (powerslave album!)

There's more than 30 other bands I'd put on a metal greats list though!!

Wow, this is going to be difficult as there are so many decent bands out there. I'll have a stab at it anyway.

Metallica
System of a Down
Fear factory
Rage Against the Machine
Sepultura (when max was up front)

Ackercocke

Chimaira
Otep
Superjoint ritual

Iron Maiden have gotta be the best gig i have ever been to though thinking about it, even better than ackercocke!

can someone please explain what is meant by metal these days as I am slightly confused by mention of Linkin park, etc. in the real heavy metal days it was lead guitar influenced rock bands such as AC/DC, Maiden, UFO, Rainbow, Priest, Whitesnake, Scorpions, Saxon and the like. also, isn't Blink 182 a skateboard punk band?

how dare you slag off Saxon (Barnsley's finest) and then list some obscure punk band. shame on you. Dallas 1pm and Hungry Years are as good as anything by the bands you mention.
