It got me thinking, seeing that the "blades chat" post has many more posts than anything wednesday-related, are there more blades than owls in the city? I know that wednesday's average gate is larger than united's, so what gives? Let's see if we can have a thread with no mention of the "p-g" word in it?

its well known that wednesday do have fans that travel from other citys... but to ask any team how many fans it has in its own city is impossible...

Will anyone ever be able to answer who has the most fans?
As far as i am concerned a supporter and a fan are different people. Surely a supporter is someone who contributes the the club in some way?

Personally, we all support the Blades at Vidster heights

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW WHO HAS MORE FANS,YES WEDNESDAY DO HAVE SLIGHTLY HIGHER GATES THAN UTD BUT A CITY AS BIG AS SHEFFIELD WHO KNOW.

PS- IT IS THE BLADES WHO HAVE SUPPORTERS FROM OUTSIDE THE CITY NOT WEDNESDAY

Who told you that??

Its a well known fact that more estates in sheffield are traditionally known as 'blade' estates but the owls pick up more support from outside places like barnsley due to there good form in the past 20 years.

There are a few hardcore Blades who live in scandinavia and post on the official United message board. They were made aware of the Blades through Jostein Flo and Jan Aage Fjortoft and try to make the trips over to Sheffield as many times as they can.

Nutters, lot of 'em :)

Nutters, lot of 'em :) Might be nutters, but they are certainly more passionate than some armchair fans that both sets of fans have.
Thats the thing I hate, listening to the radio after the game and some geniouses say "Yes, I am an Owl/Blade but I didn't go to the game today..." Why the hell do they feel the need to ring and comment on the performance/game when they haven't been ?

i agree with that- they shouldn't let anyone on praise or grumble if they havn't been to the game!

At the end of the day, I dont think anybody has hit the nail on the head!

How can anyone say that one team has a more loyal fan base than the other????

I seem to think that both teams have die-hard supporters!

And also all this banter does'nt really have any bearing at all??? What does it matter who has the biggest fan base!

At the end of the day it's everyone for there own?

EXACTLY.

All this "we've got more fans/better fans" is completely irrelevant.

The only thing that counts is success.

I'm sure most sensible football fans outside the premiership would gladly swap places with Wigan even though their supporter numbers are poor.

I'd be happy if it was just me sat at bramall lane if it meant we won the league.

well it is in the clubs interest to have as many supporters as this generates cash for clubs. more supporters=more money

You're missing the point mate.

We're saying that at the end of the day it matters not how many people are there or how many there are in Sheffield.

What matters is how they're doing on the pitch.

At Bramall Lane we don't have the biggest attendences but we are in a very healthy financial state.

It's not just down to the amount of fans it's down mainly to how well the club is being run.

Depends how much the tickets cost really :)

If two people bought tickets at £170k each, it's just the same as 20,000 people paying £17 each.

Pretty extreme example but United charge more for tickets than Wednesday, but they have been getting bigger gates. On monetary terms, we could be about equal.
