There's a 'Sheffield Links' in the site contents - try having a look on there

Conisborough Castle is a good place to start. Roche Abbey, Arbor Low stone circle, a few 1000 year old churches scattered about.
There's a Brigante hill fort at Wincobank but I don't think there's owt to see there.

Conisborough Castle??? In Doncaster?

There is the catherdral which is always nice - they have lots of green men amongst the carvings - aparently there is a very nice one directly above the baptismal font.

There is supposed to be a stone circle in sheffield - as opposed to on the outskirts. If you are interested in megaliths and that sort of thing go to Megalithic portal - which lists sites of ancient interest like Nine Ladies, Callnish and Stonehenge.

No, Conisborough Castle isn't in Sheffield but it's not in Doncaster either . It's halfway between Doncaster and Rotherham in a village called Conisbourgh.
If you mean Callanish(?) that's on the Isle of Lewis and not very local and nor is SStonhenge come to think of it!

No...I was giving examples of the sort of sites the website I suggested would list. Like If you are looking for holiday accomodation you look at a general site then get specific :loopy:

There was a hill fort up on Wincobank Hill 2000 years ago...but there isn't that much left now.

Have a look at this webpage and decide for yourself if it's worth visiting

There are also the remains of a Roman road up there

Cromwell demolished Sheffield Castle(one of the largest in England) Some of the remains are in the foundations of the Castle Market
Beauchief Abbey?
The Queens Head in Pond St was a fine Elizabethan building until the brewery was allowed to gut it and install a picture window in a 15th century wall.
There's the Bishop's House in Meersbrook Park (Stuart Period), the Cathedral carvings that the Moon Babe mentioned but the answer is: Not much doing.

this is a very informative site regarding Ecclesfield

http://www.spick.co.uk/

Did you all know about the antique shop more or less on the corner from the church? If you pop in you'll find a lovely old maze of corridors and rooms full of antiques for sale from books to a suit of armour.
