View Full Version : What to do when Macafee expires...
I recieved an e-mail today telling me (in the nicest way possible) that I am going to have to pay all over again for the virus protection package that I bought last year.
Now my questions are this:
Why do I have to pay again for Macafee when the original wasn't all that cheap?
What will happen if I don't pay?
What if I uninstall it and then put it back on under my partner's e-mail details?
What if I sack it off altogether? Would the new google pack do instead?
neeeeeeeeeek 10-01-2006, 15:01 Remove it and download AGV Free edition.
It's free and it's good.
What he said every time ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
McAfee and Norton are gifts from the devils behind. You'll like AVG, it's free, it works better, it doesn't consume all your computers memory, and it's really really simple.

Oh. Hello you!
Thank you all for the advice. I will do as suggested.
bobsyouruncle 10-01-2006, 15:32 well, i have mcafee and also got a couple of polite emails saying more or less the same thing, i didnt do owt about it and it still does downloads and stops stuff, i run me .
hockeybear 10-01-2006, 16:28 I uninstalled macafee because I didn't like it. Got Norton.
I uninstalled Norton after its year was up and got AGV
my computer is so much faster it is like having a new one.
My vote is for AGV
mr chris 10-01-2006, 16:50 I've tried a few free virus checker programs (Avast, AVG...) and I have to say AVG really is worth having!
Course I *cough* am going to buy the business edition!
melthebell 10-01-2006, 17:32 you buy macafee and norton and get 1 years free subscription to technical services, virus definitions etc, after that time your supposed to pay again for another years sub
uninstall and install avg :P
I haven't even got McAfee, and I got that email aswell
That seemed a little suspicious to me.
alchresearch 10-01-2006, 20:30 I just buy the latest OEM version for about £3 from Ebay. However, I use AVG on my other PC and laptop and can't fault it.

When it kept saying that to me it eventually stop downloading updates, so virus protection wasn't up to date. only cost about a tenner to renew it for a year though!
Viper_GTSR 11-01-2006, 17:54 What firewall would you suggest running with this in tandem?

When my McAfee ran out I got AVG but I left McAfee on (because at that time I didn't know how to remove it  ) It says it is protecting as a firewall but nothing else. Do I need to remove it??
