Hi all
Me and the missus are going to Tenerife in late May/June for a fortnight with my folks. I've never been and to be honest it's not somewhere I've ever considered going before but my folks asked us to go......
we're staying at Playa De Las Americas which I've heard nowt but bad things about but Ma and Pa stay in a particular hotel everyyear which is a 4* and they think is great.
The problem is I can't be doing with just sitting around a pool all day.
Any suggestions on what to do would be greatly appreciated:thumbsup:
Playa de las Americas smelt so bad (rotting rubbish *everywhere*) when I went that I frequently felt sick, and vomited in the street on more than one occasion. There were also constant fights, broken glass everywhere you looked and people having sex in full view of everyone.
One night we were there, we got evecuated from a club because of a bomb scare and that same night two men were stabbed in a fight over a drink. Watch out for the tramps who hang around outside the club called Tramps (they don't speak English and can't appreciate the irony!) and do not even make eye contact with the African ladies offering to do your hair - I promise it will end in tears if you do!
I would suggest that if you wanted to go shopping or have a nice night out, get a taxi to Los Cristianos. Taxis are cheap and it will only take 10/15 mins to get there. The difference is unbelievable - it's clean, doesn't reek of rotting rubbish and you're unlikely to bump into any of the 18 - 30 lot!

Once we discovered Los Cristianos, yes! I'll just not mention that our apartment was broken into a few days before we left and they took all sorts, and of the six of us that went, only two of us now speak to each other! Anyway, I'll try and be a bit more helpful now!
The weather in Tenerife is beautiful, but can be a bit hard to stand - take lots of sun cream, buy plenty of bottled water and keep your aftersun in the fridge. If you're into perfume/cosmetics, there's a big shopping centre on the edge of Las Americas where you can get brand name stuff dirt cheap. There's also quite a good market that we never manged to get to, quite a few golf courses, and a company that takes people on a hike up the volcano.
If you're so inclined, there's also a dolphin-spotting boat trip (we saw loads) but be warned - the boat stops quite close to some cliffs that lots of caves. In these caves live lots of naked people, who aren't shy about coming out and watching people gawp at them! Don't book this (or any others for that matter) through your travel rep - you can get them much cheaper by going directly to the company running the trip.
