I've met the Chuckle Brothers, was in the same room as Sara Cox (my sister got her autograph, I can't stand the woman), andwalked past Janet Jackson in the street. I also have Chris Moyles' autograph.

Also, getting fairly loose now, Matt Elliot, the Leicester City footballer lives near me and I've seen him in the local co-op a couple of times. And my uncle works for the Tigers and speaks to Martin Johnson on a regular basis.

When I was in my teens, Phil Oakey from Human league bumped into me in the Hole in the Road. He was being chased by a load of screaming girls and ran into me making his escape. He put his and on my shoulder and said sorry. I nearly fainted as he was my hearthrob at the time!!

Aged 16 I was on "Where there's life" with Dr Miriam Stoppard. It was a programme about education and she said my mad goth hair was the most amazing haircut she had ever seen!!

I have also met Boyzone, Bewitched and Tim Vincent when my daughter won a radio1 competition.

A few weeks ago I walked into my living room to find that my cousin had brought back the bloke who plays Joe Scully.

Predictably, I told him that I'd seen him on 'Neighbours' earlier in the day and it was remarkable that he'd made it over to England in such a short space of time. Not only that, but he'd managed to get back to Australia in time for the repeat...

He had a cup of coffee and smoked a fag out of the back door. My housemate got the shock of his life when he came down to get a glass of water.

Not an A-list celebrity, admittedly, but it was something a little out of the ordinary in my otherwise banal existence.

Nope,

He stayed at our house just the once, for two nights

Of course we had no idea who he was at the time (1975) - he was just another overseas business customer who received the customary hospitality from my Dad's company - i.e. staying and eating with the family.

The business was gun sights and military optics.

We found who it was many years later, courtesy of interpol.

I stood and talked to Michael Palin very briefly in the queue to get into Wembley for the Rumbelows Cup Wednesday v Man Utd. I wish I'd had a pen on me so he could sign my programme.

Stood having a wee next to Joe Royle at Hillsborough one night match. Put 2 and 2 together and made 5 as usual.. he didn't take over as manager LOL he was just having a wee.

Rob Halford of Judas Priest stood full on my hand with his big butch biker boots when I was at the front at the City Hall once.

Talked at length to Neil Warnock when I had to put a programme together for SUFC v Frecheville last year. To be fair, he couldn't be nicer.

Iman was carrying out some UNICEF work in Botswana and they rolled into the village where I was helping out.

The village kids were asking me who he was and despite my best efforts to sing them a few Bowie songs they had no idea (which didn't suprise me that much tbh). So I just told them "he also used to play football for England" which I knew would get them excited ;)

He was wondering why they all wanted their footballs signing lol. Nice bloke, so was Iman. I only spoke to them for a few minutes but it was nice enough.

Ashley Jackson (painter). We were buying a painting of his. What an interesting bloke he turned out to be.

Princess Anne. She waved at the crowd one evening as she came to the opening of the Weston Park Hospital. The crowd was me (just me) walking into Uni for an evening lecture. Sad for both of us?

Dr Edward de Bono (lateral thinking expert). Who??

The Queen at Sheffield Town Hall.

Neil Kinnock at the opening of Red Tape Studios (that was me next to him mouthing hello mam on the telly).

Guy Salmon (racing driver) on way back from Le Mans ( a real gent).

The man who wrote the book on lateral thinking, literally. Have used his "six thinking hats a few times. good way of exploring ideas, if you can get over the seeming gimmick-iness of it.

Even got an assignment back once marked "don't be so red hat"

Ran into Jeff Bridges (literally) at Bear Valley.

http://www.bearvalley.com/

I was embarrassed and apologized, but he was very nice about it. (he's better looking in person!)

About twenty years ago, went with my sister to a mall opening in Concord, Ca. to see the cast of a soap opera she was hooked on. Surprise. John Stamos was one of the cast members. (Pssst. Girls, he's REALLY short)

Saw Donald Sutherland at the Ballena Bay Yacht Club in Alameda, Ca. (apparently, he loves to sail)

Saw Nick Nolte and Peter Strauss come out of a bar, stop, turn around, and go back in. They did this about twelve times. They were filming "Rich Man, Poor Man", a TV miniseries. This was in Oakland, Ca. (I think)

As a teenager, I had a friend whose father owned a painting company in the Bay Area. He told us they were hired to repaint portions of Alcatraz prison to make it look new because Clint Eastwood was filming a movie there. The next day, the painting "crew" had two new workers ride over to Alcatraz on the ferry. We got to see Clint Eastwood, and his then girlfriend Sondra Locke, but were too chicken to actually approach them. The movie was "Escape from Alcatraz". (and yes, my friend's father did make us work!)

Saw quite a few celebrities while working in Reno. Carol Burnett comes to mind because she was very gracious and left me a HUGE tip.

And finally, Carol Channing lives not far from my house.

http://www.modbee.com/life/mondaylife/story/7084164p-8017197c.html We've seen her walking in the neighborhood with her husband, and she always waves and says hello. A sweet woman.

I met and had a 30min long conversation with Edgar Wright (director of spaced and shaun of the dead) then i got really drunk towards the end of the night and jumped on his back outside the club. He didnt seem too impressed. Then i saw him again back stage at leeds 2003 fest. we were both walking to the gents from different directions, kind of made eye contact, asked if he remembered me, he said yes (how could he forget me...) had a little chat. He never did go to the toilet :) just walked the opposite way! I think i scared him that time outside the club.

Other than that... I think i jumped on timmy mallet at some student night in hull. I don't know what it is when im drunk but i always seem to have the urge to jump on celebrities.

Many years ago, too many to mention, well actually early/mid 60s I used to travel every Friday from Luton, where I lived to London, with other Luton Louts for a night in West End. One of these trips we stopped off for a few wets in Pinner, The Red Lion to be exact, directly opposite the tube staion.

There was a guy playing the piano, and we struck up a conversation. After a few weekly visits I said I played and he asked me to stand in for him while he went to the loo. From then on I had a regular spot while the resident player took a break.

I was paid, If I remember correctly 4 shillings for 1/2 hour.

My name is Bruce, his was Reg Dwight

Spiffing JJP! All those meetings with Governement Ministers on The Terrace and amongst Commons Chambers..... I see now, the BS that they spout on a daily basis must be rubbing off on yourself! You really ought not keep spouting all this BS, it is jolly funny to read, but really you aren't qualified to do so until you hold a Bulls**t Certificate (aka: a BSc), or is it a BA at the management school?

Did you get to see the Shark amongst all those big tall adults at Saatchi back in 1992, my, you must have been ........ 9yrs old?

ME! I'm so famous, everywhere I go I'm there. To be honest, it's becoming a bit of a drag, this being famous lark.

Only this morning, when I woke up, guess who was there? Yes, ME! I went to the loo only to be met by that chap again, ME.

I gets in my car and looks in the rear view mirror. 'I recognise that face' I say to myself, 'It's ME!'

Just as I feel I'm on my own again, I walk into my shop and guess whose reflection I see in the window? You got it!

I'm so famous that this morning I've signed my signature no fewer than seven times (albeit on creditors' cheques).

I'm truly famous - honest. I'm currently writing a book about my fame: It's volume 24, and like its predecessors, it's simply titled: Diary.

For someone so famous, it's a right rivetting read. For anybody who doesn't know me, it's a complete bore. But hey, I don't mind, I'm famous. And believe me, if anyone knows, it's ME!

Graham Norton!!!!!!

Six months before Graham (look, it's a carrot that looks like a willy) Norton appeared at Waterstones there was a book signing session with Sir Ranalf Finnes. Finnes had undergone a tripple heart bi-pass a few months earlier and run 7 marathons in 7 days on 7 continents. He had also walked to the North and South Pole. How many people were there to see this absolute ledgend?

Me, and that was it.

Fast forward a few months and Graham (look, it's a kebab that looks like Jade Goodies ****) Norton was signing books and he had a queue that went back to the Virgin Megastore.

I couldn't believe it, what sort of society would worship Norton over Finnes.

I've met Tony Benn, Billy Bragg, Emmylou Harris and Steve Earle. I know Richard Hawley and I met this board's very own Toby Foster once or twice. That's about it really, apart from some minor celebrity visitors to my school (Canon & Ball, Les Dennis and Lenny Henry).

My girlfriend was told to f*** off by John Leslie and interviewed wearing a rubber chicken on her head by the BBC's Hazel Irvine. She's also met some bloke from Taggart, Richard Stilgoe, Toby Anstiss, Pat Sharp (minus mullet), Kirsty Young, went to school with the Fulham footballer Ian Pearce and met Tony Benn at the same time as me. Oh and the actor Douglas Henshall in the 24 hour Spa on Ecclesall Road.

I did once sell a second hand televison to one of the Chuckle Brothers. :suspect:

One of our best friends is an actor who was in the History Boys at the National Theatre recently, and he's met Alan Bennet, Richard Griffiths and Frances De La Tour? Does that count?

I once sold a fanzine at Donny Rovers to former footballer Malcolm Allinson and was ignored by Denis Law outside Maine Road in 1985. And I drove to Darlington in former Chelsea and England striker Kerry Dixon's car. The journey back was on the Rovers' team coach. I sat behind Darren Moore, now at West Bromwich Albion.

That's about it I think...when I worked at William Hill I spoke to Mike Atherton on the phone. He's very boring and not particularly nice. Radio Five's Jonathon Legard is very very rude indeed. That's where I met my girlfriend; she got a call from Robbie Fowler and was also bored to death by Athertone's droning on. She worked at a hotel in London and met, wait for it, such legends as Marti Pellow, Gillian Taylforth and someone called Gary Lucy. I don't know who he is.

You can like who you like, and I'll express an opinion on what ever I like.

I thought the situation was a microcostmic reflection of modern society where a celeb who has created his reputation by showing fruit shaped like willys is held in higher regard than than an explorer who ran 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days shortly after a heart by-pass.

Quite a few other people I spoken to about this agree with it's representation. You prefer Norton, that's fine. I'm sure fruit shaped like willys is very funny to you.

Naah, there not celebrities ,I mean" real" celebrities.
Was in a pokey little night club in town in the early 60s,and two young men were drinking at the bar. After a while they got up, and walked on to this pokey little stage with just two stools there. No band or anything, but one had a guitar. They started singing "Bridge over troubled Waters".I said to my husband "Oh,they are quite good for a place like Sheffield arent they?" He said "I cant see them getting anywhere with a song like that though" They were only Simon & Garfunkal before anyone really knew them in England.!

I used to live in France and met a few A-listers whilst over there, but no one anybody in the UK would know. My best friend worked in the music biz so it used to happen all the time, dinner parties, shows, etc.

I've met a few, Maude Adams (Bond: Octopussy), Joanna Lumley, Shirley Bassey, all in the line of duty (event organisation). Can't recall them all.

Whilst I was at Warner Bros in London, I met the Haarlem Globe Trotters and... (you ready for this ppn_2204?) Arnold Schwarzenegger and ...

George Clooney. I coulda' lived without meeting Arnie, but George Clooney; thank you very much! Was never a fan 'til I met him,a m not really now and I have this policy of not idolising people who are unattainable (since Donny Osmond turned me down when I was 6, ahem), but I swear to 'some entity somewhere' I nearly swooned. By the time I'd realised it was her, and got my camera out she'd got into her car and was starting to be driven away (she was being chased by Paparazzi at the time, who were doing a much better job of taking her picture than me) so I managed to only get a picture of her left hand :). For anyone interested its here (http://public.fotki.com/GElliott/travel/world_tour_2005/usa/2005-05_los_angeles/050513_los_angeles.html)

I met Bobby Nut in a supermarket once too. I also went to the London premier of Terminator 3 so was in the same place as lots of famous people, but didn't really meet any of them.
