hi. hope you can help. i am looking to move to sheffield due to work and have a budget of around 60k to purchase property. been looking at the details of a house in longley whuich seems nice, but i dont know the area. whats it like and what are the best areas to be looking at?
thanks
Live in Longley simon and find it generally ok.
One problem though is that one or two streets are definitely trouble magnets. My niece asked about a house for sale on here so I made a few enquiries for her. It turned out that the two neighbours were holding open-house for drunks, druggies, parties and had threatened any neighbour who complained. Naturally I talked my niece out of that move. My street and most of the others I know are as good, if not better than, any you'll find in Sheffield. Ecclesall excepted of course.
By the way, guess where I got the info on the neighbours from.
The house seller's 10 year old son!!!!!! Own goal, or what?

thanks for the info. looks like i will take this one further.
looking in particular at southey hall drive. whats it like around there?
whats the deal with the"bidding wars" i have been reading about on hese forums. is buying a house in sheffield different to anywhere else?
any advice is much appreciated.
I'm just about to move. I had to pay well over the asking price for the house as I was bidding against three other people. I found it quite hard going as there was a bidding war on most properties I was after. I had 3 people bidding on the house I am selling too, so it has worked for me as much as it has against me. I'm told this doesn't happen in most parts of the country but this is the only place i have ever bought in so I wouldn't know. I expect there are some local variations.

Simon, have a look at the "Estate agents and self-fulfilling prophecies" thread, which will tell you all the depressing details you need to know about the crazy Sheffield house-buying system!
