Not too keen on the colour scheme as it doesn't make easy reading.
Also 3 choices under the Sport section may be better being changed. As a girl my interests haven't been refelected (I HATE FOOTBALL) so maybe a general sport section or something?
Same with Music, some genres have been missed out. So a general music section or something?
Maybe an advice section for students with problems?

yeah instead of categorising everything, you should have more general forums.
Maybe we should just get a 'Students/university' section in this forum?

As a hardened and embittered forum moderator (not on here)... I can strongly recommend you look for a niche within the student life cycle and look to provide for that...
Expect things to take at least 2 years to build up momentum and then, when they do, for all hell to break loose with power plays, trolls, etc... to spam your forums, coup d'eta attempts... etc...
It's a great experience, with a steep learning curve and a LOT of hard work so be warned... :(
Good luck
Definately a nice idea, but FAR too many topics. It's hard enough spotting something on here - you have 12!!
Maybe Learning, Accommodation, Leisure, General ?
Like others said too many sub-headings and student cliche topics that I don't even think students are interested in.
Colour looks good to me though,
Good luck

:P Nah.. just making the distinction that I don't moderate on SF.. but that my bitterness comes from elsewhere relevant to students..
Now put the baseball bat down and back away... :loopy:

As an Forum Admin myself, i think the idea of a student forum is great (i would know that's what i'm admin of!), but ditch the proboards ! (ads and rubbish interface) gor for phpBB.
For the scheme off course it's important but hardly difficult to change.
I wish you could luck launching your forum,
Greg
