I'm wanting to know if anyone has been and let me know what they thought of it.

My friend is really wanting to go and although I'm not to sure yet, it would be somewhere different to go.

Does anyone know if it is expensive over there? and how long the flights are - I'm scared of flying. (I'm thinking the flight is pretty close to double figures???)

The price of it all is putting me off at the moment, she is looking to go in October and we're going to need nearly £1000 just for flights and hotel (I have nothing saved up!) so this is why I'd like some information from anyone who has been.

Thanks in advance...

I went to Negril which is the cannabis capital of Jamaica, allegedly. Some observations:

Don't go for the all inclusive packages, they are a rip off and you don't get to see the 'real' Jamaica.

It's noisy, there seemed to be reggae morning 'til night.

You will be hassled for money by higglers who seem to think if you come to their island you shouldn't go back with any money left.

The people are the friendliest ever, except for higglers - see above.

The cooking is fabulous.

Car hire is expensive but well worth it as you get to parts of the island normal trippers don't.

Avoid Kingston.

If you go during an election it is scary and breath-taking all at the same time. We have a Desmond Leakey t-shirt with blood stains as a souvenir (from the man himself).

Cannabis is freely available, I'm told. I'm also told that it's nice with Tia Maria laced with condensed milk.

Oh, sod it, just go, you won't regret it.
