My vote goes to "Vanilla Sky" ... It would perhaps make a very good gift for an insomniac. Where medicines fail, this might work!

Did anybody see that Movie 'Roadkill' on BBC1 last night?

What utter drivel. One of those where you think, I've wasted my evening watching this tripe. (with respect to forum tripe fans of course).

Utter, utter pants.

I went to see open water when I just came out, it was supposed to be good so the cinema was packed but 20 mins before the end people were leaving. Walking out everyone was saying it was awful. It starts off and its slightly decent then when they're in the water it gets to the point where you hope the sharks are going to eat them so the film ends. Eventually they get eating, what an ending!

I thought there was something fishy about that movie.

Maybe the plot had been watered down?

I couldn't sea the point.:hihi:

Actually Roald Dahl put dollars and cents in the original book as I remember. God knows why, although he did live in the US for a while.

I've got to say that open water was a passable 20 minute tv movie with 1 hr stock footage added on.

Didn't he also come up with a concept for a story about gremlins in the engines of WWII fighter planes that Disney showed some interest in while he was there?

I agree with previous people that King Arthur was rubbish.

Keira Knightley was on great irritating form with her constant confused yet still sexy look permanently slapped on her face. I watched the directors cut [with all the blood and guts they cut out of the cinema version] and still thought it was boring.

Other contenders:

-Dog Soldiers. Just....no.
-And some weird film i saw after coming in from drinking [so could be an invention of my gin addled brain]

The basic plot was Sarah Michelle Gellar was a chef and had a magic crab [yeh, i know] who granted all her wishes? It was bizarre to say the least. Me and all my friends were sat in dumbfounded silenece for probably the first time ever.

But whoever said Don't tell mom the babysitter's dead is just bonkers. It's so good! That and Short Circuit, Goonies and Batteries not included made my childhood what it was!

I've just posted a similar response in the "Best Film Made From A Comic" thread, but almost any film which casts Ben Affleck in a leading role seems to automatically qualify as a contender for worst Movie ever made.

Examples:

Gigli
Jersey Girl
Paycheck
Pearl Harbour!!!!!!!! (i love how the producers of that film conveniently forgot about Hiroshima)
Daredevil
Changing Lanes
Good Will Hunting (sorry, it's rubbish)

I've not seen it, but I'm sure that the Mariah Carey vehicle "Glitter" has to be a contender.

I am so glad someone agrees with me about her. Seeing her in a film immediately puts me off it. Similarly with Ben Affleck as already noted. The same used to be true of Jim Carrey as his earlier films just made me angry but he's actually made three films I quite like (Truman, Bruce, Eternal Sunshine) in the last few years.

I don't have just one worst film but my list includes

Blair Witch Project - this is absolutely pathetic how this can be described as scary is beyond me!

Cable Guy - I hated this one one of Jim Carrey's worst films.

Anchor Man - I rented this on dvd and didn't last past the first 20 minutes.

Scary Movie - sorry I know this is popular but a spoof of a spoof just doesn't work for me I actually walked out of this film half way through.

To Die For - I thought this was utter drivel.

Eyes wide shut - saw part of this on sky and I thought I'd accidentally got one of the adult channels for a minute. More like a porn film to me then anything else or did I miss something at the beginning.

I'm also not keen on the Lord of the Rings films but don't include them in this list because they are good films but the books are exceedingly boring so you can't expect the films to be otherwise - I fell asleep in all 3 btw.

I'm with you on Chasing Amy and Dogma (they're not on the list), and I suppose Jersey Girl wasn't that bad- more to add padding to the list if anything. Though I am of the school of thought that with each succesive film, Kevin Smith seems to be sliding downward on the quality trajectory.

I've just read that they are making "Miami Vice" the movie with Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx as Crocket and Tubbs. My only thought was !!!!!!!!!WHY!!!!!!!!!!!

There must be loads of films that should never have been made:-
John Travolta - Battlefield Earth
Kevin spacey - Kpax

Any body got a view on the films thats belong in a secure room to protect the rest of humanity.

Miami Vice was GREAT!!!! although I'm not sure about the film version - don't really see the point as Don Johnson won't be in it and he was the face of Miami Vice!

Also they made films of it when it was on - well film length episodes anyway!

I am slowly but surely working my way through the box set of the first series - marvelous!!

Anyway, back on topic...

I thought 'Into the Blue' was truely dreadful - walked out 1/2 way through!
There are actually far too many to mention!

Cuey
27-10-2005, 14:52
Thats a good additional question. Films that where so bad you left the cinema before the end. The only one i can think of that i did that was Billy Crystal in "Mr Saturday Night".

I really enjoyed KPax... I thought it was quite an inventive storyline.

Battlefield Earth... why?
Magnolia... what a pile of [self censored].
Man on the Moon .... big sweaty pants.

I heard the rumours about Rocky 6 and have mixed feelings.
Yes Rocky 5 was bad (compaired to the others) and I'm feeling that a 50+ yr old boxer might not go down too well, but i'm secretly hoping (if it's true... nothing on IMDB) that it'll be a knockout (see what I did there  ).

I know stallone is actually in the process of making Rambo 4 (oh please no).

Yeah you have to hate those. You spend 90 minutes think "well it has to get better in a minute" Then the titles go up and they are the most interesting bit of the film. You feel like sueing the Producer for wasting 90 minutes of your life. :suspect:

Mulholland Drive
Eyes Wide Shut
Vanilla Sky
Blair Witch Project
Deep Blue Sea (apart from samuel l jackson getting bit in half by a shark - me and my mates were watching it going "this is s**t, shall we watch something else", and then he got eaten - and i dont think any of us had laughed so hard in our lives)

And the only film i've ever walked out of at the cinema - Buena Vista Social Club

There are many many more films i could list - i've just tried to block them out of my mind!

Blair Witch Project

Leaving aside the hype, it's a very effective low-budget horror film. I think a lot of the criticism of it came from people who were expecting an all-singing all-dancing special effects-laden Hollywood flick.

Deep Blue Sea

Awesome film, just awesome.

"I know what we should do at this high-tech marine laboratory. Let's breed some super-intelligent sharks. What could possibly go wrong?"

It's tongue-in-cheek and very funny IMO.

For me we're talking the re-make of Psycho (what on earth can be the point of doing it shot-by-shot?!), everything featuring Adam Sandler except Punch-Drunk Love, and every Jaws film other than the original.

Anything with a singer that thinks one pop hit makes her an actress. Lopez, Carey, Spears your all guilty STOP it.

The only singer i can think of that did a half decent cross over was Cher. She got an Oscar so it can't be just me.(Dolly Parton wasn't bad i suppose) She got awards for 9 to 5 but that was for the soundtrack.

It must be getting late at my desk i've slipped into real trivia land.

OMG i was just reading the posts and couldn't believe Punch Drunk Love hadn't had a mention. It is THE worst film i have ever seen then, shock horror, someone mentions they like it.

Apart from that one (which is way ahead in the rubbish stakes) Jeepers Creepers was an alright film until a dragon type thing started eating everyone.

Yeah, something like that.

Yep, really looking forward to that film.

What's going on here? Am I so out of touch with public (well, Sheffield) (well, Sheffield Forum) opinion? I look at a thread about films that shouldn't have been made and people keep mentioning my favourite films.

Mulholland Drive. Possibly David Lynch's best film. You don't want sense from him, you want creeping, dreamlike menace and transfixing weirdness, which is what you get.

South Park the Movie. Total genius from start to finish. Brilliant songs, brilliant gags, brilliant satire, all round brilliance.

The Blair Witch Project. Really scary, really involving, great performances, best American horror film for years.

I'm going to keep an eye on this thread and watch any films mentioned on it that I haven't already seen...

'What Lies Beneath' - I took a lass to the pictures to see it when I was seventeen. Harrison Ford with tomato sauce smeared on his forehead. Load of tosh.

'Dancer in the Dark' - Bjork attempts the Sound of Music with a Lars von Trier spin. You know something is wrong when you are wishing the protagonist dead.

'Jurassic Park III' - forget all that nonsense about recapturing a sense of adventure; it was a cash-cow, full stop.

'Primer' - the overly complicated dialogue obscured the incomprehensible plot completely. The low-budget quality was fine; the story was a mess... and I LOVE time travel.

'Men In Black 2' - another example of an extremely poor sequel. So many are so bad compared to the orginal film, apart from 'Toy Story 2', 'X-Men 2', and, arguably, 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day'

And so on, ad infinitum.

“The Cook, The thief, His Wife & Her Lover”…… was stupendously awful and had a ear-splitting soundtrack whose sole purpose was to boost sales of Anadin Extra.

“Desperately Seeking Susan” starring Madonna was dire, unfortunately we met some friends in the foyer so couldn’t walk out. In the bar afterwards they said the same.

“Being John Malkovich” WHY did they make that film? Was it a medical experiment to create the cinematic equivalent of concussion?

“Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind” same question : substitute concussion with death.

Ben Affleck films. That guy is gonna die of woodworm…..

Robocop franchise got crap after the cool first one... Robocop 2 had next to no plot compared to the first, it was just an excuse for OTT violence IMO... And Robocop 3 doesn't even warrant my attention, as it's just Robocop toned down so that under 18s can watch it... But meh, I watched the first one at age 13 via an *cough* aquired *cough* video in the late 80s and it had no adverse affect on me...

I think movie ratings in the UK are out of touch to be honest, but that's another discussion for another thread.

Anyway back on topic.

At the risk of getting flamed, I have to say that the Lord of the Rings movies were over-rated and crap... I'm sorry but I just didn't think they were as good as the media and everybody else hyped them up as.

Also, Star Wars Episode 1 wasn't as good as it could, and should've been, sure it had all the right storyline elements (apart from Jar Jar sodding Binks  ) but the kid who played the 10 year old Anakin was annoying and too sickeningly cute IMO.

SECONDED! I fell asleep (for the first time) in the cinema during The Phantom Menace- bo-ring!

I would also like to add these:-

- SOUL SURVIVORS [wtf - PLEASE don't see this movie]
- Rocky V
- Bridget Jones' Diary had me reaching for the pillows...
- Cruel Intentions 2 (!!!!!!!) [a monkey could have thrown up a better story]
- CRUEL INTENTIONS 3 (!!!!!!!!!!)
- Bring It On Again
- Titanic the TV Movie version with Catherine Zeta Jones
- Satan's School for Girls

There are sooo many more that I've seen that I would love to warn you about, but have blocked out of my memory... Will add to the list later...

I wonder if there are any movies out there that are universally good; that *everyone* would call a great movie... :suspect:

I have it on DVD now... its very dated, but still a weird ass film :)

My worst film I've ever seen is a toss up between-
Erin Brockovich, Maybe Baby or the horror- Jack Frost.

I was so looking forward to Jack Frost- its about a killer snowman.
(Bear with me)

The cover on the box looks fantastic with a holographic like image, showing on one angle a nice safe snowman and when you tilt the box- the image changes to an evil killer snowman.

The film is that poor, that in one scene, the snowman is trying to kill a naked woman in the shower- which is weird if you think about it itself- but you can tell that its just a bloke with white fluffly gloves on trying to 'choke' the woman out.

Its that bad- seriously though, if you can get a copy- watch it and you will see what I mean!

Anything thats aimed at teens that falls into the "teen chick-flick" genre. No matter howwwww many times they try and make it different it follows the sameeee too predictable, cliche, icky narrative structure.
Geek and popular person - 2 people who are total opposites.
Go through some sort of conflict, they help each other out, get it on, you dont think they will get together at the end but oooo just when you thought it was going to be different - psssch SCORE! 10 minutes just before the movie ends...They live happily ever after ...
Now we can all go to sleep happy thinking taht 2 fictional characters are happy in love. awwwh.
Not.

I however liked the movie Dogma. You can't diss Kevin Smith- unless its the "Jersey Girl" movie!

For me worst movies (there are far worse ones out there but these are the ones that seem 2 stand out for moi)

Poision Ivy
Elf
Star Wars
Dodgeball

Just Married
The Wedding Singer
ect..

Anything with Hugh Grant in it, mainly the coma-inducing rom-coms where he plays Hugh Grant, or the Brit-rom-com where he plays, er, Hugh Grant, or the one with the big hill where he plays, suprisingly, Hugh Grant.

Dire, awfull, boring, crap.

I'd watch that just for the laugh, it is possible for a film to be so bad it's good, if you know what I mean.

My "don't do it to your eyeballs" list includes:

Event Horizon - derivative Hellraiser in space drivel.
Daredevil - So bad I blocked it from my mind.
Titanic - Its about a ship sinking but we have to have a chase, gun battle and gratuitous nudity - thankyou Hollywood!
Very Bad Things - the only film I have ever walked out of!

Woah woah woah! I thought Very Bad Things was an excellent film!...........Black comedy at its best.

I loved Event Horizon to.......Cult classic! :nono:

Proof with Gwyneth Paltrow and Jake Gyllanhaal.

They played it on the flight from New York and I wished I'd gone to sleep instead of watching it, Jake Gyllanhaal was a big part in in though so it's all good

mine would be

1) Hercules goes to New York
2) Lockness Horror
3) Q The winged Serpent

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

my worst film would be the supposed to horror movie --"DEMONS IN MY HEAD"
we laughed all through this, to say is was a helmet which was placed on the head and all that wore it changed into demons, honestly we laughed and laughed.

28 Days Later could and should have been an amazing film.

Great idea but poorly executed; bad acting throughout, predictable towards the end, completely ridiculous finale too.

No way would that guy be able to take on 10 fully armed soldiers trained to kill.

I thought Signs was ARSE. I thought that Shamalyan bloke was a good director at first, but he manages to make all of his films the same!

I LOVE 28 Days Later!

Also, I'd like to addressthe point of the Blair Witch Project. I thought the film was good. Very spooky.

Also, it was made with the smallest budget possible. AND, the publicity campaign was brilliant.

They had a documentary on TV about it and made it out to be real. Plenty of people fell for it too.

I heard at college that it was a pure rip off of the last broadcast, about the hunt for the new jersey devil, but i saw that not long ago and it was pants.
