Does anyone know what is happening to this area? I hear that Mcdonalds are closing too but what is going to replace the building? Any info is very gratefully recieved!

McDonald's closes this weekend. Not sure who is taking the building but would suspect it is the same people that own most of buildings on the Moor

But.... McDonalds has been there forever! I even remember the fountain that was inside it - it was on both floors so you could see down! (have to point out I was about 5, so this was an amazing thing!)

I shall mourn it....

I remember seeing someone thrown from down the fountain from upstairs - you know, we did laugh!!!!!

Would that prehaps be why it's not there now :hihi: Are they pulling down the block then or just tarting it up a bit??

Not fussed about McD's but I can remember when Sunwin House was Redgates. My brother got lost inthe lift cos I was dawdling around the dolls prams and he went off and got in without me and mum LOL He also met Darth Vader there and he was proper :o

Now all the Uncle Arthur Toy shops have closed, we have no decent toyshops! We even used to have a Hamleys.

My friend Tim runs the Nelson pub across the road, and he remarked on not having seen any applications posted around, so it really *is* a mystery as to what's going on!

Redgates proper rocked :D Even Coles' toy dept isn't what it used to be years ago *sigh*

Ahhhh Coles toy store. Many excellent christmas presents came from there.

I believe it is part of the inner city re-development that is going on through Sheffield. Much like when High Street was given a facelift 10 years ago, The Moor is getting the same treatment. It was planned for next year, but the work has been brought forward, and so closures of buildings. McDonalds will be reopening once work has finished (and the current plans for the new design are supposed to be "really smart" to quote one employee!). As for Sunwin, not sure if they are returning to the block.

As far as I am aware, McD's will not be going back into the building. Probability is that they move to a totally new site when the New Retail Quarter is up and running.

Pity that, - I'd really like to see a McD's where the Halifax is on the corner of Surrey St. and Norfolk St. :P

As I was venturing up the Moor today I noticed that chav-central a.k.a. Mc Donalds was closed and also noticed that Sunwin House was closed. Does anyone know what's happening to these buildings?

No great loss that Maccy D's is closed as I never cross their doorstep, but why Shefield feels it must be constantly re-inventing itself is a mystery to me. They have never grasped the concept of "If it aint broke, dont fix it"

I wish we still had Redgates too, it has never really been replaced.

That corner and the rest of furnival street going down to the roundabout is horrible.
