Anyone interested in sharing a beach house in Newquay for the whole Month of August this year for some serious surfing? I am spending the whole Month there and have a beach house available with loads of spare rooms.....cheap rent, right close to the main beaches and not far from the town centre night-life (AND ITS GOOD!!!)

ooh that sounds good, Newquay in the summer is possibly the finest place to be. I wanna go down there for a couple of weeks this year, how much rent we talking?

Carry on!

From a Cornish Person it is probably the worst place to be. Full of shops that sell Junk and the place is just full of annoying emmets, not to mention the run down houses

Depends what you want from a place doesnt it? I dont go to NEWQUAY for shops I assure you!!!! I go for the surf scene and quite frankly the rather exciting night life on the town circuit.

The rent for the whole house which has 5 bedrooms will work out at £600 divided by 5 so thats about £120 per person for the whole month, but only if I get five people that is. Its right on the beach more or less, literally 2 minutes walk and about 12 mins walk from the town centre roughly, car parking for 3 cars plus unrestricted road parking.

Sorry to have offended the grumpy yocal, I think goldenfleece hit the nail on the head, I'm hoping to get a bit out of Newquay than shopping.

Anyway man would it be possible to rent the place for a week or do you just want someone to sign on for the whole month? Me and about 2 friends were looking for somewhere for a week, interested?

The waves, the waves, summer's coming!

Carry on,

Dave

Think I want people for the full month really, else I then have to go about getting others for the other weeks or having to fork out all the rent myself....maybe that wont be too difficult though, leave it with me.

Cornish you say...

Id have to agree, the surf is good in newquay, but... Polzeath is the place to be if you are a serious surfer!

also spelt POLSEATH actually....no one seems to be really sure is the S or the Z is the real spelling....the locals prefer the version with the Z but a lot of maps use S as well.

back to the point, NEWQUAY is the surf capital mainly due to the fact it has good night clubs where everyone goes afterwards.....in fact the bays further up the North Cornish Coast ARE better bays for surfing.....but Polzeath itself is a tiny town/village and no nightclubs as far as I know.....

its down to a matter of choice of course.....Newquay is rammed with surfers not so much due to the delights of Fistral Bay, but more for the fact it is also rammed full of girls out for surfer men, and there are many many more bars to crawl round than the smaller and more traditional holiday resort of Polzeath...

people are fickle....

One of the reasons I said it was one of the worst places to be in the Summer. It is crammed full of girls who know nothing about Surfing, but just want to look good attached to a surfer bloke regardless of their personality.

Also it is full of nightclubs, shops just out to make money regardless of the quality, service they deliver. It doesn't give a good impression of Cornwall.

Polzeath spelt with an S :o No I don't think so, definitely spelt Polzeath. It would be like saying Penzance was spelt Pensance.

Have to agree with RPG that the some of the smaller bays up the coast are better for surfing.

Thats VERY true. Now I wonder WHY is it so popular!!!!

:D If you like that sort of girl.

Hmmmmm...its NOT just THAT sort of girl though. I was down there last Summer and found the female population to be actually quite nice, and nothing like the rampaging drunken girls you get in Ibiza or somewhere like that. Newquay just has a bad image for that.....I personally did not see TOO many girls who might fit that category and I was out clubbing every night and in all the main bars.

I actually met up with a beautiful female surfer who actually COULD surf, and who was not just down there for a week trying to shag lots of male surfers!!

I went to Cornwall last summer and found Newquay to be horrible, didn't like Polzeath either though - full of posh public school boy types and had the most expensive campsite we went to with hardly any facilities. - I'm not a surfer though - each to their own.

(For other people I'd recommend St Ives or Marazion - Penzance was a bit dead)

Went to Newquay last year and loved it. I'm going again this year with 7 friends, that's if we ever manage to find a mini bus that wont cost us more than our entire holiday!

Sorry, speaking as a person who would buy an old beat up wreck and would actually restore it from the floor upwards.....

Yes, they aRE a little of the pricey side for a grade 1 model, still there always bargains to be found.......

Hi, a frient and i are very much interested in staying in newquay for august so would happily take two of your rooms but also want to be there for july and september, is there any way of us still paying you rent and staying in the house for these months? (suppose that's a lot to ask :s) Kathryn

goldenfleece

Nothing is finalized yet......dont know for sure. Might be possible, depends on the owner....I know him but not sure if he has any more bookings for his house after August......cant reach him for next 3 weeks as he is in Canary islands.....

alright for some!!! if you could get back to me if you get to talk to him once
he's back 'cos it sounds like exactly what we're looking for but obviously if it's not available for july and september then it's silly for us to stay for august and have to arrange something else for the surrounding months!! Thanks

Will do. I tried but mobile not working over there.....typical.

I think actually its rented to students from first week of October but as I said, unsure re September. You may also have to pay a lot more as I got a great price only as I know the guy....he normally charges something stupid like £600 a week for the place....and people pay that sort of money to be there!!! No wonder he can afford to be in the Canaries......its rented 12 months of the year to either happy summer surfers, students, or real diehard winter surf dudes who enjoy sub zero ocean temperatures and icebergs....

virtually no surf on the south coast (Marazion) until the Lizard peninsula. best surf on the north coast. Constantine has some of the very best surf but, again, no night life. Newquay is definitely the place to be for that. now recognized as the Ibiza of Britain. strictly a young person's town now though, especially in July/August. no use for oldies like me. actually, for the every day tourist, Newquay is pretty dingy compared to the 60's. before package holidays it was an up-market holiday destination. in need of a good re-vamp, but as it caters mostly for drunken teenagers, hardly likely to get one. St Ives is much nicer with almost white sand beaches and good surfing at Porthmeor. i was born and bred in the West Country, attend the May Day 'Obby Oss' festival at Padstow every year and I have never heard of Polzeath being spelt with an 'S'. it is pronounced Pol-Zeth.

Hey,
me and my boyfriend are looking for a place to stay this summer, really were hoping for 2 months but you're place sounds cool and I'm sure we'll be able to find something else for the rest of the time.

Would you be cool with us sharing a room?

Where abouts is the apartment, my parents live in Crantock so I know the area really well

I was going to head down in August anyway. Me and my gf could want a room to share if that's alright? Are the rooms double/single?
