View Full Version : Unwanted phone calls!
jennifer 05-01-2006, 13:37 For the last few days I have had loads of call from a companies to do with phones - phones at home or something!
I just put the phone down on them as they cant even say my name correctly! So im guessing they are phoning from a country abroad.
I am regestered with the telephone preference service so im a little hacked off. Once thay called 3 times in a hour!
I do 1471 and witheld number!
why not take their details and fill in the tps complaint form?
jennifer 05-01-2006, 13:43 Because when I tell them that im registered with TPS they say we will not contact you again!
Are they forms available online?
If they are calling from call centres abroad, you will normally get a short pause between you saying hello and them replying (I dont know if you noticed this?).
Best thing to do is hang up as soon as you get the pause, at least you wont have to talk to them.
LellyBee 05-01-2006, 13:47 I had a call last week asking me to help out with a survey. I asked who was calling and how they'd got my number as I am registered with TPS.
The guy answered that because they weren't trying to sell me anything, it had nothing to do with TPS, so I told him that his calls were unwanted and not to contact me again.
We registered with the TPS and nothing changed, still unwanted calls...then we re-registered with them online with the free BT service which also gives you caller display (if your phone has it). We've not had any unwanted calls since so try that and see if you have any success.
SpeedwayDan 05-01-2006, 13:58 well i registered with the tps a couple of years ago, and our unwanted calls dropped by around 98%, we used to get telesales calls everyday, now we may get one once a month, but as soon as you say you're registered with the tps they usually start apologising:hihi: if they don't, i take their details and let the tps know.
the only thing we get regular is those damn recorded messages saying how we've won a holiday
jennifer 05-01-2006, 14:04 yes there is a definate long pause before they say anything! I usually have to say hello about 4 times!!!

I got these same calls in the summer, time and time again. They also called about 4/5 times a day and they would always ask for the same person.....that didn't live here and who I've never heard of. Repeatedly I told them that the person doesn't live here but the phone calls carried on. Then all of a sudden they just stopped.
I registered with the TPS before this started and it didn't obviously do any good.
I get calls every day from that recorded American voice saying I've won a holiday and to press 7 to claim. I'm not stupid enough to do that but its very very annoying, and I'm registered with TPS. Obviously I can't make a complaint as its recorded and I have no idea who they are.

ask for the companies name, then make a imform the tps, as far as im aware, each company is supposed to use this software database that lets them know if your registered with the tps, if it says you are, then they're not supposed to call you.
but in my experience, once you mention you're registered with the tps and you will make a complaint if they call you again, they stop calling you

act like your interested and ask for company name and number you can call them back on.
then report them :)
the funny thing is, if you tell them that you're registered, they become very unlikely to give you the details you need to complain.
Just pretend to be interested, and take the phone to the pc, fill in the online complaint form whilst you keep them on the phone. Then tell them what you just did for a laugh.
Ginger_Kitty 05-01-2006, 14:39 Oddly enough i've finally stopped getting all these phonecalls...
well dialup has to be useful for something ;)

The pause is due to their systems dialing multiple numbers at once. When you answer you get routed through to one of their agents - hence the delay. If i get a call and theres a pause, i know its time to hang up!
shoeshine 05-01-2006, 14:57 I have had 3 calls in 2 weeks from an Indian Call Centre acting for T-Mobile.
Each related to a contract with them which finished last August...each telling me my contract was running out soon. On each occasion I explained the contract had expired.
Last night I had the third call on the subject, the guy gave me an English Name. He was very obviously an Indian gentleman with a very strong Indian accent. I have no problem with Indian people...it is not an issue with me in any shape or form.
But what moron dreamed up the idea of making them use English Monickers in the hope of hiding the nationality of these very likeable people, just doing a job of work.
I like Indian names for heaven's sake...they sound very exotic to us Westerners:)
If I get another call from T-Mobile on this subject, I will send my man Jeeves round to give their MD a GOOD SLAPPING:rant:
I am registerd with TPS ... waste of time...we are now ex-Directory
