Thanks MC Spyda 03-07-2011, 09:25 A bus pass. mary70 03-07-2011, 09:26 i would try the comparison sites that does sound alot my son had and old punto when he passed 2 years ago and he payed just over £2000 try putting an older relatives name down as a second driver (not first) that brought my sons down too landi 03-07-2011, 09:28 And they wonder why people drive with no insurance the prices are ridiculous for younger drivers these days thetruth 03-07-2011, 09:31 A bus pass. pfft who want's to use the pesant wagon! brianthedog 03-07-2011, 10:14 Elephant are reasonable for young drivers. sues_budgie 03-07-2011, 10:19 A few 17 year olds are driving without legalised theft..... sorry..... without insurance. Then thats what you get when the generation before embraced the "no win no fee" compensation culture "£3000 for tripping up?" If the teens drive uninsured, don't blame them. Blame the generation that caused this, the ones who went running to a "no win no fee solicitor" to claim a few grand for a minor accident wizz wizz 03-07-2011, 10:46 Just a case of shopping around just recently insurances have jumped a extra 30%. am 26 been driving 9years no claims or accident clean licence many other driving passes and i struggle to get insurance for less than 1k qoute yesterday on a small saxo to run back and forth to work over 800quid its only £960 for insureance group 20 car it dont get great deal cheaper with age . try all the go compare websites you will find just shopping round realy does offer discount and as said before put a older relative on the insurance policy drops it down providing there pretty clean history but keep your son as the main driver . crookesey 03-07-2011, 11:15 Tesco and Direct Line are young/student driver specialists. Do new car dealers still offer 12 months free insurance deals by the way? Better to buy a new £7K little car with a years free insurance, than a cheap car and very expensive insurance. That used to be the norm and still should be. ukdobby 03-07-2011, 13:00 A few 17 year olds are driving without legalised theft..... sorry..... without insurance. I found the comparison sites to be a lot more expensive than going to the insurers direct. I also have my mum as a named driver on my policy, even though she lives down south, and that pulled a few hundred pounds off my price. relost 03-07-2011, 15:30 I'm trying to get car insurance for my son whos 17, the cheapest so far is £7000 he's only got a s reg punto so nothing flash. Has anyone got any ideas. Thanks Good Luck love, I hope he finds something soon. Car Insurance has gone thorugh the roof. My OH had his license revoked as he was stupidly speeding in his first year of passing. As a result, he had to sell the car he loved and decided to take his test again. The other week, a friend of his offered to lend him his car while he goes away on holiday, if we fancied temporarily insuring it.... We had a look and it will cost £454 for 14 days. Astounding! He has only had his license 8 months, but its for fully comp insurance. Its a car over 10 years old, a petrol with a small engine By the looks of things, he'll not be getting a new car for another 2 years. Car Insurance going up just makes it harder for people when it comes to finding work etc. Makes me laugh! teenyweeny 03-07-2011, 16:23 its much cheaper to insure a classic car these days, insurance has gone through the roof, try insuring anything in rotherham and its sky high and they wonder why people drive around with none. Blame the generation that caused this, the ones who went running to a "no win no fee solicitor" to claim a few grand for a minor accident You have got it ………. A dink in the car park and they all want a couple of grand each for whip lash and then justify it by saying ……… every one else is doing it, well quite obviously everyone else isn’t doing it. Grandad.Malky 03-07-2011, 16:32 If the teens that drive uninsured cause a serious accident they could find themselves facing a civil lawsuit that costs them far more than £3000. Which they are going to pay at 10 bob a week  until those receiving it get fed up of waiting and write it off. You would just sue Grandad.Malky 03-07-2011, 17:05 You would just sue the minors parents. That’s not what happened when a work colleague was awarded damages from an uninsured driver, after a few months the payments dried up which means another court order and another plead of poverty and another award which you know they aren’t going to pay. I suppose it's. Grandad.Malky 03-07-2011, 20:06 I suppose it's the unluck of the draw who hits you but certainly not a good idea for working parents with assets to allow their children to drive without insurance. Have you got a link for that, I have never heard of parents being responsible for 17 year olds. fox3589 03-07-2011, 20:54 I'm 17 and I've been looking on Confused.com and the cheapest I've managed to get my insurance down to is £4113 for a Ford KA! I think you're best using comparison websites like Compare the Market and Confused, you get a broader look. Good luck! :) AJ sheffield 03-07-2011, 21:02 Encourage him to sell the car, use public transport, save his wages and when he can afford the insurance he can afford a car. Spongeing off your parents or running up debt? sues_budgie 03-07-2011, 22:24 Encourage him to sell the car, use public transport, save his wages and when he can afford the insurance he can afford a car. That used to be the norm and still should be. That was ok back in the day when group 1 insurance for something like a £200 D reg fiat panda was £150 for the year. Different ball game, when the fees are running into the £1000s mike84 04-07-2011, 05:17 Do the pass plus, buy a car that is group 1 (something like a fiat cinqucento), shop around and actually phone companies up as well as get prices off the net. There is very little chance of getting a quote for under £2k but you'll probably get closer to it than the £7k you've already been quoted. Halibut 04-07-2011, 05:48 That was ok back in the day when group 1 insurance for something like a £200 D reg fiat panda was £150 for the year. Different ball game, when the fees are running into the £1000s Not really, just more expensive. The same principle holds true - if you can't afford to drive, don't buy a car. Pretty straightforward really. Stumpy_ 04-07-2011, 06:22 My insurance costs me £156pm :( |
