View Full Version : When you were a newbie & were first 'quoted' in a thread....
Don_Kiddick 05-01-2006, 06:40 Can you remember how you felt?
Did the person who quoted you do it positively or just shoot you down?
How did you feel as a new user at being noticed, read AND quoted?
Cannot remember who, but it wasn't a put down just a reference.
:D
dieselbabe 05-01-2006, 07:09 Well not in this name has i had to change for resons, but in my orignal name over a year ago i started a thread and i got the most common reply to a quote back that was
PLEASE SEARCH BEFOR YOU POST AS THIS HAS BEEN DONE MANY TIMES BEFOR.
Now this was by a forum member and not a mod but even tho i did not know how to use the forum back then and i just wanted to get into posting and break the ice, i thought ok you know it all why did you not just pm me or kindly tell me how to search insted of being a know it all.But i think sometimes the people that have been on the forum a long time do go ott on new members and act like mods sometime imo when we already got mod's to do the job.
The very first one I put on was a for sale item. But my first general one was a put down by one of the regulars whom I now know does this to a few newbies. I did upset me at the time but now I know to just ignore their comments....they're really no better than anyone else no matter what they think.

That's exactly what happened to me
I was first quoted after I had posted a question about West One and someone used my post in their answer :D
I think I was probably just thrilled that someone had actually both read and responded to my post

Not a quote from me as such, but yeah shot down in flames with the same message when I was a newbie :heyhey:
youwhatref 05-01-2006, 07:59 I cant remember my first but remember it didn't take long to be shot down and advised to use the search button.
Ok, couldn't find my first quote. But this (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5717) is my first post. At least some people replied.
And this (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5954) is where I had to wish myself happy birthday because no one else did. :(
Hmmm, 2 years of foruming. That's a bit scary!
Next job is to find my first drunken rant. Shouldn't take too long.
I'm gonna wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY in advance for this year Andy.
Thankyou very much DIBS. You are the first person to do so :)
HUG!
Though I'm delaying my birthday until the end of the month. Haven't got time for it at the moment. :(
My first post on the forum.... I think was on a thread started by a lady complaining of youngsters dropping litter, and I posted a tongue in cheek comment about her hitting them with her handbag :)
Can't remember being quoted on it though :(
ToryCynic 05-01-2006, 13:25 I was happy as DaB thanked me for the information for a computing forum...

As an exercise in futility I did a search on your name - *gazb* which returns a list of posts quoting you. The first was:
http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?postid=51707#post51707
I should have guessed it would be Max. Ifact I also remember my introduction to PM's was a scathing and insulting one form Max too, without provocation as I didn't even know about PM's

Actually, this (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&postid=51691#post51691) post was my first, 15 minutes before the one you quoted.. I just did a search on myself :D
EDIT: I'm glad to say I've matured a fair bit since then, I'd just turned 18 when I joined.
i think that if someone quotes you good or bad at least you know that you are contributing to a discussion,as sometimes that is all the conversation some people have in there days, and it helps them feel that people are listening (good or bad):happy:

I thought this thread was about quoted posts.

My mistake, sorry
Internetowl 05-01-2006, 16:09 I bet Roys first posting quote was from a mod saying 'you're banned' :)

We got chatting via PM after this (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?postid=177961#post177961) :)
Hi Andy
Andy78 lifted my spirits (unwittingly) when I was in despair with Brude's medical state, and I was able to return the favour months later

And here I am quoting you again. :)
Glad that I helped. And thankyou for supporting me when I needed it.

Still feel like a newbie, but I was first quoted on my very first thread (apart from my intro) when a long-standing member made a sarcastic remark about the way I'd worded my OP. :(
Since then I've been ignored, 'talked-over' and a brilliant 'thread-killer'
I'm either paranoid or I'm just not getting the message. :hihi:
SpiderPete 08-01-2006, 18:13 how do you find out who quoted you first, I am sure mine was something like "please serach before posting" :P

See, I read your posts, and now I've quoted one of them! Post something controversial, and I might disagree with you enough to quote you again :D . Only joking. It only looks like you're being ignored. I usually read all the posts in a thread I've contributed to, so at least those don't get ignored :) .
