View Full Version : Lead Blackening for fireplaces - where can you get it?

Any advice?

B&Q have stopped stocking it and suggested trying specialists, I would think with all the fireplaces in sheffield it must be solid somewhere easy to get to (i don't have a car).

Anyone know where best to try for this?

I needed some a couple of years ago - 'Zeebo' - they stopped making it because of the lead content, I think.

There is an alternative I found after much googling and I can't remember the damn name.

Only place I found that sold it was Williamsons Hardware in Broomhill, opposite Record Collector.....

Try Replicas on South Road, Walkley. If they don't have it they will be able to get it.

I would avoid lead. Lead poisoning is not nice:gag:

AS a youngster I had to black-lead the kitchen range every Sunday for about five years and I'm still here. Doesn't take much nous to know not to lick your fingers when they're caked in Zeebo.

Anyway these days you can wear a pair of marigolds if you're worried about it :D

Apparently you can still get the Zeebo stuff in Hillsborough Co-op as well.
