Hello there
I was directed to this fascinating forum last night. I'm an ex pat having moved from Sheffield to Beverley in 1957.
I was wondering if any of the members have any memories of the Red House when it was being run by Frank Conboy my mother's uncle?
My mother met my father there so it has an importance in our family!
Many thanks

I'm sorry that, despite my suggestion, nothing's turned up :(
We are talking about the late 1930's and 40's aren't we?
Hugh
Hi HughW
Yes! A very astute piece of work in fixing the time frame. Do you have some personal or family knowledge of the Red House at that time?
I believe great uncle Frank had been in the Sheffield police as had my paternal grandfather. This might explain why my father went there and ended up meeting my mum! My dad was in the fire brigade and I suppose could have been stationed somewhere nearby. I don't know much about his wartime fire brigade service. He joined the RAF in late 1942.

Just asked my mother in law about this as she used to live near Solly St in the 40's.
She remembers a Vincent Conboy but not Frank. She thinks Vincent would be in his 80's now, probably son or brother of Frank.
Thanks extaxman
Vincent was the son of Frank, I don't have any dates for this branch of the family but I would think 80 odd is about right. There was another son Jim whose children I can remember playing with in the early 1950's. They had the first electric train set I ever saw. I was very envious!
