I had a long hard session on the Trent at Fiskerton today, alternated between a heavy feeder approach for the Barbel and a light stick float set up for whatever wanted a maggot or two. I missed one good bite on the feeder and had around a dozen bits on the stick, hard work for nine hours. Has anyone else fished the non tidal Trent since the season started and if so have you had any success?

That's the section just upstream of the motorway bridge..... We used to fish that section regularly. Was quite a while ago last time we went and it was day ticket then... Black Bull serves a nice pint too...

Hi, visited the river Trent opening day and fished in Newark town centre, fished pellets and hemp with fishmeal groundbait. Low river, however by putting down a good bed of bait and waiting I had 2 nice barbel and 3 bream.
As usual late evening is the best time to fish.

last year i was going to the Weir field stretch near Farndon, opposit Staythorpe power station. waiting till the usual Sunday match finished and then had a few hours of peace and quiet all to myself. I spent the first half hour just plonking a large feeder in the river putting down a good bed of bait. then in the last hour of daylight the action started. Loads of Barbel here but on a clear river there is no doupt evening is best. I even caught a 7lbs Barbel that had been attacked by a pike. It must have been some sized Pike

Have a look at the stretch, you can park behind your peg so at dusk you can just pop your tackle back in the carwhen it gets too dark. the pegs opposite the top of the weir best 4,5,6,7,8,9

Good luck
