I'm intrigued to know everyone's opinion on this...

Public affection- yay or nay?

Is it a somewhat harmless and affectionate, almost cute way in which couples display their affection for one another? Does it make you smile and imagine the blossoming romance between the two?

Or do any of you reckon it's entering the realm of exhibitionism, putting on a show for a mostly unwilling audience? Does it make you nervously look away, cringing with embarrassment? In other words, 'get a room.' :D

i'd get publicly affectionate if given the chance. Some people go overboard e.g. lesbians kissing/holding hands at work in staff room; opposite sex couples wouldnt normally do that so it seems very 'in yer face'

I've no problem with public affection. It does make me smile when I see a happy couple holding hands or having a hug in public but yes there are some who take things a bit too far.

In the workplace I think it's good advice to tone it down a bit, but in public (outside or wherever) then I don't have a problem and I think it's quite nice.

With regard to your lesbian/gay comment rtapper, that raises a few questions doesn't it. Even though it shouldn't be an issue in this point in time for a gay/lesbian couple to be holding hands/hugging in public, it is still something that some people have a problem with. Personally I still don't see anything wrong in it though. If two people care about each other why shouldn't they feel comfortable with it in public. It's only exhibitionism if you perceive it that way, or if the people involved are selling tickets. ;)

I think public affection, within reason is all good.... If you want go all out and make out/shag, wait till you get to the privacy of your or her own bedroom.

Now this is a complicated issue.
While I don't mind to see a couple being affectionate in public I have to draw the line of full on tongue action which really should stay between two people.

I mean, giving your partner a 'sloppy kiss' is ok, but a five minute snog, grope and almost mount in the street is a bit much. Call me old fashioned but that's what I think.

On the flip side with the Gay and Lesbian issue I have no problems with what so ever. I have lived and worked in Britains 'gay capital' Brighton for a while and have seen it all numerous times. That place is so laid back and accepting that it's not an issue. That's the attitude towards it I have adopted. Why should it matter? It's just two people in love (or lust). No issues there.:thumbsup:

So yeah... affectionate in public... fine... almost public porn... not in the best taste! There is a time and a place for porn:D

Yes, that's pretty much my attitude too DaB. OK, but no tongues.

I think there's a fine line between what's nice visually in public and what's not- agreed with Bouncer the tongue/grope action thing should be behind doors...espcially in clubs people seem to take on an 'anything goes' viewpoint without taking into account the visual disturbance that the third party may have to aquire.
But generally affection is all fine and good. :thumbsup:

Im all for public displays of affection, of the holding hand, arms around each other, hug and bit of a snuggle sorta thing...but like bouncer I cant be doing with OTT tonsil tennis fests that you see...I get grossed out when I see couples doing it, and I get embarrassed if boyf tries it

In nightclubs its worse! but funnier! watching two people trying to get off with each other when completely bladdered and trying to stay standing, top entertainment :D

I agree with DaB too. I like to see people holding hands and cuddling, it makes me feel warm inside. When you get full-on snogtastic action I wish they'd take it elsewhere.

N.B. This opinion maybe deemed worthless because of the fact that I ain't getting any. :(

I think when people first get together they like to be all over each other all the time and they're totally consumed with each other. But to the outsider, it's just annoying and disgusts people.

A few of my mates who are in relationships are full on 'pub snoggers' and it really gets on my nerves. They spend all night clung around each other, and never speak to anyone else. I hate that.

Now then: if you think it's rife over here in the UK, got to Spain and watch them at it there. Shop assistants necking when things are quiet. They break off when they get a customer, but then they resume as soon as the shop is empty again.

You can see them from the street.

And talking about streets, they sit on walls all the time entwined and snogging like mad and getting really intimate. At seven in the morning!

It's like sooo not unembarrassing.

i love to see couples kissing and holding hands and linking arms and cuddling it makes me smile and gives me a warm feeling inside too sidla!i dont like to see couples go ott its nasty pasty and its hard to explain to kids why anyone would want a tongue down their throat when they see such activites,but the couples that really put a smile on my face are the oldies the old married couples that hold hands and still stare into each others eyes as if they were still teenagers thats the best show of affection ,it gives me hope and happiness in my heart.:cool:

Aww I LOVE it!!!!! Chris and I are the King and Queen of public affection! We've been going out for 17 months (on tuesday!!!) and we're still all over eachother like a rash lol!!! :D :thumbsup: :D

I don't mind public displays of affection, but the couple I had the displeasure of seeing having full sex in Jilly's Rock World in Manchester was taking it too far! It was still fairly early on in the evening so it was relatively quiet, but they were lying on a padded bench in a semi-secluded corner going away at it. For a laugh me and my mates applauded when they got up and left! The guy laughed, the girl shot us a filthy look!
