The new PC's I am looking at have SATA hard drives installed....can I still plug in my older ATA hard disk from my older machine as a secondary master or will new motherboards not take these connections anymore?

If I put two together IDE does not connect through DMA and so slows down the whole computer. Normally both sata and the ide drive run in UltraDMA6. IDE dvd writer works fine tho.....
