audio and no picture is always due to not having the correct video codec

I had this problem about a year ago. In the end I uninstalled Quick Time then reinstalled it. Don't know what the problem was but it fixed it.
This usually works for any programs I get problems with, ie not doing everything they should do. Not very professional, but it works and reduces stress.:)

i did actually uninstall and then reinstall it, it was fine for a day but the next day it stopped working again. it cant be the codec because its a .mov file and quicktime should be able to play that without any trouble.

i do have a very old version of quicktime (QuickTime for Windows 32-bit) aswell as the latest version, could this be the problem?
do i need to uninstall the very old version too?

the old version came on my PC when i bought it about 6years ago.

when i click on a quicktime file, it plays the sound but there's no picture, just a blank white screen, anyone know why? Coz Quicktime is rubbish... Convert all your MOVs (or dare i say QT) file into a non proprietory format so you can choose a better player to view them.

Errr, actually quicktime is pretty damned good as formats go. The problem with non-proprietary formats is that they're usually developed by people in their spare time with no real financial backing and no real testing base aside from the unfortunate people who download them and hit the bug report button.

I've had this happen with quicktime, and it was just a problem with missing codecs. An uninstall/reinstall should do the trick, as long as the movie was compressed using a codec that's freely available.
