I am seeking any information on Spout House. Bradfield. I believe in the early 1700s it was home to a John Morton, and later to his son Joseph. Does the house still exist, and where was it siutuated.
Joseph left Spout House in approximately 1720 to go to live in Mexborough.
Can anyone out there help me.
Many thanks
Spout House is a veryold house situated near the top of Spout Lane at Stannington which is in the parish of Bradfield.
My wife's family used to live there a long time ago, I do not have the date but I will ask her for more details.
I do know that the agreements were signed in the early 1700's for the licensing of funerals and marriages to be carried out in the Non Conformist church close by.
If I get any more info I'll post it.

I lived near to Spout House as a child and was scared half to death with the stories of the ghosts that haunt the place !

Twenty years ago I worked with the chap who lived / lives at Spout House. He did indeed pay a peppercorn rent for the property. I believe the property was held in trust. The tenant himself was proud of the fact that the garden contained a large number of different species of tree.
He screened the property off even more when the housing development was built adjacent to the house and in more recent years he may have become a bit of a recluse.
