i'm building a new PC, i was wondering if anyone knew whether i could use a new 512MB DDR RAM stick that i'm going to buy with two old RAM sticks from my old PC, one a 256MB SD RAM stick and the other a 128MB SD RAM stick?
is there not a maximum space for RAM size to be? i think its quite dangerous having RAM size too big.
Back to ur point, i dont see why you cant do what your doing, how old is each RAM? of urs?
Edit:
As ur building a computer im sure you no ten times more than me.

Edit:
u would think so, but the chance is u know more, lol
one of the old ram sticks is about 6 years old and the other i dont have a clue how old that is.
with the 512 and the 256 and the 128 that adds up to a total of 896MB of (half caste DDR & SD) RAM so its not that big. some people have a 1GB of RAM in there comp.

the amount of memory is determined by windows and the bios i believe
any windows later than 98 and if the bios allows it, 1gb should be fine
adding different types of memory shouldnt be a problem as long as its not 1 simm? the type that needs to have 2 of the same type in to work
if theyre differing speeds then itll run at the lower memory speed
if you do get problems tho at least youll know to take some of the memory out and it should be ok (not booting, freezing, other strange behaviour)

if you use your old sd ram, then the ddr ram that you are getting will automaticly be "downgraded" by the comp to run at the max speed of your oldest memory, this would be a shame as ddr memory is far better than sd memory
you cant mix DDR and SD ram. the slots are different for a start, so it wont fit physically.

SD Ram (http://romz-cracker.site.voila.fr/ram.jpg)
Notice how ones got 1 notch and the others got 2? And that the notches are in different places? Thats to stop you plugging it into a slot its not meant to go in.
