town - the peace gardens, the fountain on fargate, pubs, clubs gigs etc (thered be loads of us in the peace gardens drinking, punks, trendies, rockers, metallers, rockabillies, one of my mates was even into a bit of mod)

Plain Talker 02-01-2006, 11:43 oooh, as a kid, My mother would take me to local parks, such as Graves Park, Endcliffe Park and Millhouses Park. Occasionally she'd take me and my sister to Rivelin, to the paddling pools. OUr Favourite though, was to go to Rotherham, to Clifton Park, to the Clifton Park Museum.
As a youngster/ very young teenager, I used to hang about at Millhouses, and Meersbrook Parks, or I'd ride my bike round Sharrow and Nether Edge
When I was older, I'd lad-it (LOL) in Granelli's Balcony Bar, in the Sheaf Market, and the Gaumont and the ABC.An occasional night out would be to the 14/18 nights at Tiffanys, wihth my best friend and her sister.
As I got older, I could be found in the Peace Gardens, when the weather was nice, and in the "Bar Rio".
PT
Yellowrose 02-01-2006, 12:11 PT, I used to love Clifton Park when I was a kid. Especially in the summer when they had all those rides for a penny. I loved the train, could never manage to ride those wobbly bikes though. I loved the paddling pool too. Thank you grandma! I remember in the museum there was a stuffed rat from the steelworks that had one head and two bodies? Did you ever see that? That was my favourite!
When I was a young teen I went to the under 18s at the Top Rank on Tuesdays ... On Saturdays I would go round all the shops, especially Pippy's, Chelsea girl, the jean shops that I cant remember the name of, all the record shops, especially that one at the top of Cambridge Street, and for some unknown reason my mate and me would buy a pasty from BHS and scoff it in the alley outside. Soon knocked that on the head when we could get served in pubs!

im just a few years older than you , but i was a bit of a rebel in my teens all my friends was mods or punks and i had the girly skin head ya know wiv the little fringe bits and it was often dyed a purple colour !

Hyde Park Flats park area playing on the concrete slide and bars, then advanced to getting in the Youth club under-age, then started ladding it on the Wybourne followed by under-age drinking in Crazy Dazy's and the Genevieve till I became of legal age then I left Sheffield :)
WallBuilder 02-01-2006, 16:48 Early to mid/late teens a group of us were very keen on hiking so most weekends could be found somewhere in the Peak District.
When I was more or less old enough to go into pubs it used to be the CherryTree on CarterKnowle and the White Lion at heeley then for a long time the Robin Hood at Millhouses. In town it was of course the Wapentake, The nelson, The Yorkshiremans Arms plus the Bath, the Saddle, the Hornblowrer, the Foresters, the Grapes, the Dog and Patridge, probably a few morre but you get the general idea.
I had g/f's who lived in various parts of the city and so could often be seen anywhere from Malin Bridge to Dore as I always liked to get to know an area where they lived.
I was never what you could call 'territorial' unlike a lot of todays kidds.
Hi Everybody, anyone out there remember the Raven Pub, kept by I think his name was Lawrence Flood. I must admit it is a lot of years ago! even more than a lot!
Early 60's, Rickshaw cafe, Eldon Street . Later La Favorita, on Carver Street.
Mid 60's socialised and worked at Silver Blades Ice Rink.

Hi Everybody, anyone out there remember the Raven Pub, kept by I think his name was Lawrence Flood. I must admit it is a lot of years ago! even more than a lot!
Hi Vlink. Yes Lawrence Flood it was. His daughter Janet went out with the lead guitarist in our group. We used to rehearse down at the Raven some Sunday afternoons after they'd shut till 7.
From 16 - 18 mainly the Buccaneer, Albert and occasionally the Nelson. I remember the Raven - free black pudding on a Thursday night!
bjshooter 10-03-2006, 20:01 I grew up near the united ground so my favourate places were Lowfields park, the bridge behind B&Q on queens road, St mary's church and london road. Also spent a lot of time in the woods at totely and dore as I went to King Ecgberts up that way.
squeakyclean 10-03-2006, 20:15 I remember hanging round town with my mates a and my big boom box. We used to meet up with loads of kids our own age and have a right old laugh. Strange though , back in those days (85) our parents would let us go off on our own plus we never caused any criminal damage , mugged anyone, or gave verbal abuse to adults. They were the days, walking through the hole in the Road , with my leather jacker half way down my back and the likes of Kirsty Mccoll and Duran Duran, blaring out from my boom box. Oh I loved the 80's.
Pak Hill Flats as a young 'un then Norfok Park before graduating to the Buccaneer.
nanrobbo 10-03-2006, 23:53 When quite young, with older girls, the wood bottom nr Shirecliffe school. We used to do some great sledging there. Then older, hung around Hillsborough park with my young brothers. But early teens was the best time hanging out at Ecclesfield park, just my mate and me with a gang of lads our age- good times and the only bother we ever got into was when the parkkeeper told us off for using the swings. He was a miserable old sausage.
used to hang round meersbrook park and heeley, then later in marples all the time ,even worked there for a short time
Till Man 13-03-2006, 16:18 As kids, Millhouses Park, Ecclesall Woods, Dore Station (where I smoked my first fag)
As Teenagers The Cross Scythes Totley, and the Hare & Hounds Dore, The White Lion Heeley, The Wap, Rebels, The Yorkshiremans etc.
As a young adult, as above but not the Cross or the Hare 'cos by the time we were 18 we thought that the kids in there were so young and immature. (And we we just soooo grown up!!:loopy: )
As a kid (early teens) I used to hang around Beck School at Shiregreen and Concord Park. From then it was Peace Gardens/Wap/Rebels all the way :D (probably 87-91ish)
I can't say as I've done much "hanging" since then.....
melthebell 13-03-2006, 19:03 As a kid (early teens) From then it was Peace Gardens/Wap/Rebels all the way :D (probably 87-91ish)
i possibly know you then
i moved away from sheff about 92 / 93
before then it was all those places and the fountain on fargate :P

You possibly do. I know you ;)
EdnaKrabappe 13-03-2006, 19:11 Most nights were spent hanging around the "Tommy" as it was called at Aston.(Named after the old Tom Marsh supermarket now Aston Coop)
We'd sit there in all weathers from about 1/4 to 7 until 1/4 to 9 every night and mess about on BMXs. Sometimes used to progress to Aston Rec in the summer and sit on the swings. You used to pray for the fair to come to give some relief to the mundaness. We also went through a phase of sitting in the graveyard.
Sat were spent on Fargate after catching X26 1.15 to sheff, going to the Wimpy and staring out of the window until a decent looking lad walked past and then banging the hell out of it.
I used to go to Tiffanys in Rotherham on a Sunday afternoon when i was quite ickle.
We also went through a phrase of just catching the bus random places that we'd never been as well (warmer than sitting on the Tommy) Harthill was a favourite. Once caught the bus to town and then had to beg 1 of the 2p to get home as I'd no money left.
Wed nights was skates night though so we all used to head off down to Silver blades. The songs that remind me of that are True Blue by Madonna Rain or Shine by Five Star and So Macho Sinitta.Met Ricky Simmons there.Have always liked the cinema so used to go at least once a week, usually to Rotherham scala.
15-17 was a funny age. Sat job work used to like Harveys in Rotherham so Thurs nights were Harveys nights (It was a 21 nightclub as well?) I continued skating until 16.
Then discovered the Wetherby pub at Swallownest which i frequented 3 or four times a week until I was actually 18 and then stopped going.
I'd discovered gigs at about 14 as well and was regularly going to these at the Leadmill and then staying for the club after. Sometimes with my teachers! :)
I was such a creature of habit as a teenager and I'm amazed I passed any exams as i was never in!
melthebell 13-03-2006, 19:52 You possibly do. I know you ;)
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
*thinks*
Cazzerb65 14-03-2006, 16:25 As a kid - the Bole Hills at Crookes
