goldenfleece 06-03-2004, 02:25 PM So what is happening with all the clubs? Which ones are definitely still open and kicking, and which ones are slowly dying a painful lingering death......quite a few in the latter category I guess?
And why are most clubs such decrepid decaying slums? Corporation for example is a total mess, Bed was horrible we all know that, but even the Leadmill is starting to look like a real slum now.....Kingdom....well, my first time was last week....and it was my last time.....place is a total wreck. Did Ponana or whatever it is called a month or so back also and that is about to fall down as well.....utter slumhole.
Is Club Wow still open or has that gone? Not heard it mentioned for ages, perhaps I am out of touch, but then that was always out of town as far as I was concerned. What about Uropa and all those places are they still kicking.....or dead and buried...
Have night clubs had their day do you think? When bars can open until 3am fairly soon now how do they think they can compete against the chrome and glass modern bars which will try and stay open until 3am?
Geezer 06-03-2004, 02:27 PM I'm hoping to try Banus next Saturday, havn't been in since it was Josie's, hopefully that may be a breath of fresh air.

I must certainly be out of touch as not even heard of it. When did Josies throw in the towel, that places was open since the mid 70's with the same name!!!
fnkysknky 06-03-2004, 03:57 PM Of course clubs haven't had their day - they're a totally different experience from a bar. As for the Leadmill - it's always been a dump, it prides itself on being a dump. Bed was one of the better looking clubs apart from the toilets and the smell of spew coming from the carpets. Personally I like a club that's a bit dark and dirty - Arches anybody ;)
brocco 09-03-2004, 07:25 PM Arches is more a way of life than a club...
;)
I think the commercial clubs will struggle against the last license bars - but those that are offering something different - ie more than jsut soemwhere to drink & cop off - are always going to do ok.
As for the Arches - i heard the new lease holders intend turning it into a garage club - so should be interesting time ahead
fnkysknky 10-03-2004, 03:55 PM Garage :loopy: - ah well, I won't be going there again...
neeeeeeeeeek 10-03-2004, 05:28 PM Arches, been going tooo long but still enjoy it.. trouble is i am starting to feel old down there now! Zog at club zero, only one room but great people and the club are making an effort so thats my favorite at the moment.

If they are, they should be shot.
ickle me 15-03-2004, 08:04 PM What the hell happened to republic? It is now gatecrasher one, how it can earn that right when it only has gatecrasher once a month I have no idea, it used to be a cosy place where i went from the age of 15, now it is the most garish, pretentious place I have ever seen, there are no good places in sheff any more, I'm even getting bored of monday night leadmill-sort sheffield out!!!
green 16-03-2004, 12:49 AM current state of clubbing, is looking a wee bit rosier than it once a couple of months ago.....but in sheffield it has a long way to go yet......
adelphi......best nite there is "uprising", hardcore at its absolute best www.uprising.co.uk also i believe scott bond from gatecrasher fame is about to start a new nite there monthly soon.
arches......thank god its back open again. headcharge back to its home.
charles st......old skool fridays and house saturdays me thinks.
city hall......apart from the obvious.....some great nites like suba on the 19th March.
element/fez.....scuba, phonetics, the que, and pin up all holding their own plus pink pandemonia promotions holding some of the best band nites around.
bed.....defunct
gatecrasher1....cheese
kingdom......cheese
leadmill.......www.leadmill.co.uk
.zero......planet zogg, razor stilletto, hustle and coalition monthly saturdays, and urban gorilla fridays. www.urban-gorilla.co.uk
on top of these, we have lights down low, which is sold out weeks before, ridimition, the shop etc.......if u look hard enuf youll find what u want.
green 16-03-2004, 12:53 AM btw......regardless of the 24 hour licensing laws coming into effect in the next 12 months......the bars in sheff city centre WILL NOT get past 1.ooam licences due to residents.
so.....therefore our nightlife will continue with the clubs.
goldenfleece 16-03-2004, 09:53 AM Not all bars in town are close to residential housing, only West STreet and Division Street....most of the rest could probably get later licences.....assuming since they not on West or DIvision STreet, they actually have any customers......
fnkysknky 16-03-2004, 03:39 PM So the Monkey has moved to .zero now - wish I could keep up with it - somewhere different every week :)
Opening night March 26th - James Zabiela & FC Kahuna - woohoo :D :D
Andy78 16-03-2004, 08:43 PM Yup, the 26th will be class. Can't wait! Think moving to Zero is a good choice. T'is a better space than charles st. easily.
