This was taken from a Scottish newspapers letter section..... and I must say I totaly agree with the sender.

IMMIGRANTS, NOT BRITS, SHOULD ADAPT.

I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on 7th July we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Brits. However, the disgust about the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining that our patriotism was offending others.
I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Britain. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. (Danes, Romans, etc) However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparantly some who were born here, need to understand.
The idea of Britain being a multicultural community has only served to dilute our national identity. As Britons we have our own culture, our own language, and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH not Urdu, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, French, or any other language. Therefore if you wish to become part of our society, learn our language. "Land of Hope and Glory" could be taken as our motto, and is regarded by many as our second national anthem. This is not some right wing Christian political slogan. We adopted it because Christian men and women, acting on Christian principles founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. If God offends you then consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our Christian culture.
If the Union Jack offends you, or you don't like our Queen, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of the planet. We are happy with our culture and we have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR country, our land, and our lifestyle. Our laws give every citizen the right to express their opinion and we will give you every opportunity to do so.
But once you are done complaining, whining and griping about our flag, our lifestyle, our system of government, or our way of life, then take advantage of another great British freedom. The freedom to leave.

(I am not a racist.... but I do believe in the phrase.... If in Rome then live as the Romans do.).... my ending words.

It's either very poorly disguised flamebait, or you really are so deluded to think that everyone thinks this way.

This isn't asking a question, nor is it promoting a discussion. it isn't based on events not covered already, it isn't an immigration debate based off current events it's just an opinion from soemoen else used to try and start an argument of the forum.

if it was based on current events with FACTS on both sides because of it news basis I'd accept it was a valid contribution but this just seems designed to cause peopel to fight over opinion with a healthy dose of ignorance on both sides mixed in.

Thats why I keep my mouth shut on threads like this. I just don't see the point in just posting opinion on such a heated issue.

it may be a current issue to you but you haven't attached the debate onto anything, the issue is just your opinion again.

If you had attached this debate onto a local, national or international news topic then it at least brings in validity of argument and context on either side. You cannot just open up a thread like this because it is such a wide issue, people will be talking at cross purposes.

As for ALWAYS being a current issue, do you really think that?

Thank you Jake01 for your posting. I agree with it 100%. We came to Australia 30 years ago and had to learn to fit in or we were told what to do in no uncertain terms. I don't always agree with Australian sentiments but that's my problem not the problem of some PC nincompoop. I'll always be a Sheffield lass but I do love my adopted country. (Still barrack for England tho')

I don't want to 'shut you up so much'. All I want to do is have these discussions where appropriate, and I don't think this is going to contribute anything new to an already hevily discussed topic on this forum.

Why not search for a thread about immigration (one of hundreds on this forum believe me) and comment there. These are debates discussing it with real life facts, people who do feel strongly about it enough to argue it. They are also allow you and themselves to defend their position in a rational logical way.

All this thread does is commit unjustifiable opinion, which isn't a debate, it's just a soapbox rant, tantamount to inciting hatred on this subject and promoting a distrust of distinct ethnicities, just because some bloke in a pub wrote it and you agree,

To say I am deluded is a very emotive word, and doesn't really make sense in that sentence. You seem to think the right to frank discussion is beyond the free specch laws and I disagree, thats not just my opinion, but the law's opinion.

First up, it's not the "Union Jack", it's "Union Flag", a flag is only a jack if it's flown on the bow of a ship. I realise you are reproducing somebody elses words but that person is an idiot.

Personally, I don't think many younger people outside of the secterian estates of NI and Scotland give a flying **** about the Union flag. I certainly don't. I'm English, and in some respects proud to be English. I support England in every sporting occasion. But lets face it, the Union flag has been highjacked by the NF, BNP, Glasgow Rangers and half of the less desirable element of NI.

I really don't care for the queen either. If she dropped dead tomorrow I really wouldn't give a toss. I don't wish her dead or anything, I just really don't care for royality.

All those tales you've read of kings riding into battle are mostly ********. The royal family got where they are through centuries of taxing, pilliging and robbing the poor man (ie: your ancestors). Yay! heros! Besides, they are half German (and some would say more than half Nazi). How does that sit with your British ideals?

So here I am; I'm white, typically English, I support England in every sport (even ones I don't like) and proud to be English, however.. I don't especially care for the Union FLAG and don't care for the royal family. Where should I be deported to?

How much I would love to be in your shoes.... I mean Australia :D thing is we have to adapt to our environment and human beings have different cultures born out of centuries of belief and belonging.... When you go to another Country you have no choice but to accept their way of life.... it is so different here.... Genuinly, can someone provide me with a few examples of this PC Crowd/Brigade and what they've actually done - I occasionally see surveys and reports in papers, but 99% of that is made up...

Ideally, these examples would be first hand and not taken from the sun/daily mail/<insert biased newspaper here>

There was a post about this a few weeks ago, Christmas was celebrated in both the cities I call home, Christmas trees were put up, Christmas carols were sung etcetera.

It just seems that there is no real PC Brigade, just a very outspoken anti PC group...

Of the reports that are true, most tend to be jobsworths (for lack of a better word) or miscommunication...

Hehe, that letter is riddled so full of silliness that I actually laughed out loud when I read it.

It has all the hallmarks of the current disingenuous political 'letter bombs' (as in google bombs) that the far right groups in this country are currently sending to newspapers out in the hope that it appears that public opinion is far less tolerant than it really is. We have seen this recently in Sheffield.

It's interesting that it comes from Scotland too, and makes no mention of the longstanding drain on the UK economy that Scotland has become, purely through political expediency.

Personally, I'm quite happy with the concept of a constitutional monarchy. Kings and Queens are just fine by me. I'm not one for the politics of envy from either the left or the right, and as a democratic process it's about the best model that I have seen. A benign and generous dictatorship is far more appealing, manageable and honest than any other system that I can think of.

Pure democracy only works in the minds of those who like being in charge, because it provides further opportunity for control while dressing it up as 'people power' There has never, ever been any successful pure democracy, and there never will.

Immigrants? Well, providing that they contribute to our society who cares where they are from. Speaking the native language (can the Scottish dialect be called that;)) is common sense and good manner should be insisted upon, but that doesn't prevent anyone from using whatever method of communication they feel like in their own home, car, or whatever. The freedom to communicate openly is an inalienable right, but the manners to make yourself understood is just obvious. Who am I to stop you hoisting up semaphore flags in your lounge?

God? Well can we just leave that silly proposition there. We have always been a secular nation in all honesty. The Church and State have always been bed buddies for the purposes of mutual power and wealth, not public benefit. However, once again, all those points I mention earlier come into play here. Individuals have the right to follow whatever deity they choose... or not.

Whether we like it or not, we are a mongrel nation made up of many different blood lines and incoming systems of social and governmental norms. The British, whatever that means at any particular point in history, have learned to collectively accept incomers and to let live and learn from new knowledge, experience and intellect. We tend to root out and get rid of the 'bad bits' that are imported over that same period. It is a long, ongoing process, but it's a darned good one!

That is a great part of what we have become and it has made the UK a far 'bigger hitter' than it has any right to be as such a small, cold, dark, damp island nation stuck just off the outer edge of the old developing world. Only Japan can claim to have succeeded under (remarkably) similar circumstances.

So, where does this ramble lead us then?

So? Is there a point behind the hyperbole? Has anyone suggested that people don't need to learn english to get by in a primarily english speaking country?

That could be a problem, with church attendance at an all time low and <50% of the population actively attending. Maybe the place will seem a whole lot roomier when all us native born non christians (or non practising ones) get deported. Where were you planning to send us exactly?

Actually I don't really like the queen, I don't dislike her, but like someone said, if she dropped dead tomorrow, I wouldn't particularly care. And i'd like to see a few changes made in the way things are done, proportional representation for example.

i agree...i was persecuted and my neighbour won a house recind and one of the neighbour issues she raised is because i was a witch/pagan ...and this woman is a government officer...worked for the sheffield city council!..the knock-on effect of it ruined my life where i live round here ,im moving away...and im not an immigrant...

With regard to the point made earlier by Cyclone and others about the UK no longer being a Christian country because very few of us are practising believers well this may well be true if the yardstick used is church attendance (or even stated belief).

However, in a more profound sense we still are, in that our culture is steeped in the values and practices deriving from our Christian heritage. Indeed, the Chrisitan influence is so ingrained in us that we don't even recognise it, because it has been transmuted into secularised values and ways of behaving. Of course, Christianity is not the only major influence upon our values and mores, but it is a very important one. What I think we may see emerge in the future (if it has not already done so) is the increasing recognition of this influence, as a means of proclaiming our belief in certain fundamental values. Thus a person might identify him or herself as a 'Christian' even though they may not actually believe in the divinity of Christ. The cross may therefore become a symbol of identity and of belief in a different way to what has been commonly perceived in the past.

How many times have you gone bush to commune with your ancestors?

Do you really believe in dreamtime as opposed to heaven and hell?

Do you live in a cordoned-off mission village denied access to your tribal home?

If the answer to these is yes then you truly have fitted into the Australian way of life. If not, then you are living a way of life imposed by European immigrants.

Why is it wrong for immigrants to this country to try and live by their culture but right for you to impose yours on the native Australians?

Why is it wrong for immigrants to this country to try and live by their culture but right for you to impose yours on the native Australians? it might have something to do with the way the new comer has advanced whilst the aboriginiy has not, hospitals,schools,transport , buissiness etc,while the original indigenous ausie is still walking bare foot in the out back,each to their own,but is bieng one with the land a viable option today ? its romantasism, but i do admire them and applaud them for not wanting anything to do with what we call progress, cant blame them for not wanting anything to do with it

It was my understanding that the BNP had major issues with Immigration and jobs being taken away from the resident workers. Polish Lady is an Immigrant in the UK working, so which British Workers job has she taken ?

I am in european union yet I get NOTHING from your country but those who are not in european union can get everything for free,why you give everything to those from outside E U and nothing to those from europe:loopy:
But I just want to say that Polish people dont want to take money from you like all the other immigrants,we want to work and pay for ourselves,we have pride and not like the blacks who have NO pride and steal your money.

I really don't understand this. People come to the UK from all over the world; white people, black people and varying shades in between. I respectfully suggest that your post is mad. An example from my own experience: When I worked up north, my lab was part of a collaborative project with a research group from a medical school in Poland. Both UK and Polish groups benefited from a substantial research grant from a UK grant-making body. I'm sure others can come up with countless other examples where people from countries in the EU have similarly benefited from UK funding.

UK immigration has always been a soft touch but not as much so as in the last few years. The Work Permit criteria was shall we say 'lowered' a few years back and its been plain sailing since then.
