I'm just wondering whether or not some of the people I knew from the Gleadless Valley Estate might participate in or visit this site? The time would have been circa 1957-61. Some names that spring to mind are Lawrence Burlison, Martin Baulby, Edmund Harvey (who later emigrated to Australia and who I hear from occasionally), Janet Bonsall, Roy Bonsall (Janet's little brother), Graham Pinder, and Phillip Selkirk (who I believe passed away some years ago).

I lived with my mother and younger sister, Elaine, at 41 Ironside Road. My sister, Glenda, and my brother, Rex, also moved in with us for a while. The estate was still in the process of being built at that time. I remember a lot of good times there and I'd love to hear from others who might remember those times.

While I realize that patience is a virtue, I hope that all of my ex-buddies are not all deceased. Otherwise, I might be the next in line (shudder ...gnashing of teeth).

Just jesting, of course. But come on and respond ...I WAS your friend ...um, wasn't I?

I don't recall those particular names but they may know some of the ones I mentioned. Thanks very much, caramac, and I'll appreciate any effort you can make.

By the way, should I find out that I never really did have any friends ...will YOU be my friend? ;)

On Ironside Road, there wwere the Swains, and the Potts.

There was the young lady who was convicted of murdering her abusive father in the midle-ish 1960's... I forget her name, but she used to babysit for me when I was a tiny tot... she lived just near the Potts's.

Yes Rocky was Pats brother. I never saw Pat for years and then we met up again and became good friends until I moved to Canada.

Thanks for all of the responses but I haven't recognized any names yet. Worse still ...no one has come forward to admit that they knew me! Please keep the posts coming, however. Lawrence (Lol) Burlison is one person who I would love to hear from as he and I were bosom buddies. Well ...maybe not.

Y'know ...This is a real bitter pill to swallow. I always thought that I'd become somewhat a legend in the Gleadless Valley area circa 1960. I mean ...I wore a James Dean jacket, I sported what I thought was an Elvis Presley haircut, I walked around toting a guitar as often as possible, I even wore the collar of my shirt up while whistling the latest Buddy Holly tunes. How could anyone NOT have noticed me? Oh my. How quickly the mighty (if only in their minds) topple. :heyhey:

David was nicknamed "Dusty" and was in my class in Hemsworth Juniors, Michael was the youngest I think, and the sister was Christine. A blast from the past!

Small world innit? I live near Peterborough and Paul was in partnership with Stan Davey, formerly from Heeley and who lived in my village. I used to have the occasional drink with the two of them. The business is still running although I think Stan must have retired as he will be about 70 now.

I still live on the valley (just off Blackstock now) but we originally lived on Farmstead Close. Names that come to mind are Trevor Fox, Pete Frost, Richard Grinham, Christine and Michael Siddall, and my old mate Alan Fell. We used to play footy on the grassed area at the bottom of Hurlfield hill (where the road used to have a big bend in it)
