On the eve of a new year how about a few predictions of what might happen to the biggest ****hole in western Europe (sorry I mean our fair city of Sheffield) in 2006.

Some good choices, some absolutely never happen ones... the FA cups, LOL, and I dont think I want to see Clive Betts erected :o

So I went for the martians, and amazingly 3 people also said the same, :o :o

The first one is almost inevetable as it is a pay negotiation year (a good time to buy a car). As for the others it is not altogether impossible that Roxy's will become a club once again. Is it?

The first one is a very good bet but not necessarily about pay rates.

it's pay negotiation year every year and they don't normally strike.
Roxies has been closed for about 8 years now, what would make 06 special and see it reopen?

I don't think any of the options suggested in the poll will happen in 2006 so here are my alternative predictions:

The people of Sheffield will repeatedly wake up to find that parts of the Supertram system have disappeared. Meanwhile, even though their application for funding was turned down by central government Leeds City Council will announce that work on a new tram system for Leeds has begun, starting with a terminus in the southern suburb of Widdlemood.

The studios of BBC Radio Sheffield will be destroyed by rioters after a presenter on one of the fifteen football phone-ins in its new schedules tells a caller that "you lot and the other lot are the most tedious, stupid and unfunny b******s ever to crawl across the face of the earth".

Before the Heart of the City project, the redevelopment of the railway station and the new Retail Quarter are completed Sheffield City Council will announce that they are all to be demolished and replaced, as will the transport interchange and the Winter Garden whilst City Hall will only get an internal refit. A representative of the council will be asked to explain why but no-one will be available for comment because there is a makeover programme on TV.

I have a further prediction ; Slimsid still won't have broken his duck by the end of 2006................... :D

With the exception of "Option 1" all the others are more likely to occur than my street's road surface being repaired, my gutters being properly swept or a school providing a decent, safe and quality secondary education being provided within our catchment area.
