DO YOU LIVE IN A MONEY MASTERMIND TOWN OR CITY?
Leeds is the 'premier city' when it comes to money matters, according to independent research by the Prudential. Leeds tops the poll as Britain's 2004 money mastermind city, moving up the table from fifth position in 2002.
Whilst Leeds heads the league, Southampton has fallen from first to eighth place. Portsmouth and Edinburgh come out in a very respectable second and third place respectively when it comes to money know-how. However, the city with the most work to do in terms of brushing up on their personal finances is Liverpool, having dropped from fifth place last year to be at the bottom of the league. Leeds was followed by Portsmouth, Edinburgh, London, Birmingham, Newcastle, Cardiff, Southampton, Sheffield, Bristol, Blackburn, Leicester, Belfast, Glasgow, Manchester, and Liverpool.
Residents of the nation's top 16 cities and towns were quizzed by independent researchers about basic money matters - from the basic rate of VAT to the Bank of England base rate - and several questions about their habits when it comes to money.
