Not pitch black (except for the menu box that you select to change brightness etc)

I dont know why but it just seems to get darker for no reason

Any ideas???

sounds like your monitor could be on the way out tbh
you could try changing disply properties (right click on the desktop)

also check to make sure your monitor cable hasn't worked it's way loose

is it a laptop? When the power cable is unplugged the secrren goes dark..er

If it's a laptop it could be the screen's backlight on it's way out or the backlight inverter :(

then again thats what probably broke the thing in the 1st place
