Thats the best reason to give up screamingwitch, good luck to you and anyone else giving up.

Although I dont smoke, I remember my mum giving up and she went through hell. At one point I caught her banging her head against the wall, then there was the plate throwing ... but after a couple of weeks it was all over and she will be the first to say it was the best thing she did.

Have you got a substitute? Chewing gum, sweeties, something to suck ... You need a distraction.

All those people who have quit, did anything help you in particular?

Have you anything to offer the quitters in terms of distraction techniques or substitutes? Or is it just willpower?

my mates wife had hypnosis it worked for her & some had accupuncture which worked for them i just used willpower i
know this may sound silly but you really have to want to quit
its no good going for hypnosis etc if your determined to light a cig as soon as you have had the treatment to help you stop.
like i said if i can quit you can

Do you remember when there was the Martin St James hypnosis place on High Street? My father in law went there and he quit. I think he paid for a course of sessions, but only went to one as he quit with no trouble. I think it was because he didnt want to lose face after paying out for the hypnosis that he quit! But if it works, I wouldnt knock it.

But if it works, I wouldnt knock it. I went there about 1980 I think....it worked for a while....went that night for a beer, resisted all the temptations...didn't want a fag.....then my son drove home to us on a CBR 1000 motorbike after having a drinkypoo and I gave up the ghost on quitting.
A couple of years later tried hypnosis again.. a local charlatan who talked like Alf Ramsey.... no "g"s on the end of her words....."you will stop Smokin'.....You want to stop Smokin'" etc ...no trance just nearly fell of the couch laughin';)

So that cost me about £12 and didn't work.;)

Well i quit on boxing day.
Not that i was wanting to quit in the first place but i was struck down with that sickness bug (that im still getting over) and even tho i not eaten food for the past 6days i also not had a fag ither and it has not botherd me one bit from not haveing one (apart from my bad cough and now can smell things i not been able to smell ie other people fag smoke on them selfs).

So ive now (after running about for fags to see me through the xmas and new year shop shut down days) got 100 fags that not goin to be smoked by me now sat in the cubard.
So even tho i did end up in hospital for two nights and was sick as a dog i think this illness has helped me in a good way too for giveing up.

I gave up on New Year's Eve 1989 (having smoked 20+ a day for about 10 years) - the best thing I ever did. Use the money you save to treat yourself to other things - for a while anyway.
Take it one day at a time. The first month or so is the worst. It's probably best to avoid going out with friends who smoke until you've conquered things. Giving up means NO cigarettes, not "just having one"!
Eventually, you'll hate smokers and cigarette smoke. ;)

I'm going to give up smoking too. I have about 10 for the day today and that's it. I don't feel very confident though. It's bad but when I'm out I really enjoy smoking but I know it's not doing my health any good at all.

My new fella is going to give up too and I'm pretty worried we'll have our first argument, he smokes a lot and it's going to be a big deal for him but in a way it may be easier us both giving up at the same time.

Good luck to everyone who's going to try and I hope we all suceed!

I can recommend the services of a guy called Will Power. He is a difficult, fickle and curmudgeonly fellow is our Will, and will exhibit an unfortunate habit of deserting you at inopportune moments, but if you stick with him he will definitely help you quit smoking. His services are also free, which is an added bonus. All he asks is that you put your faith in him, unreservedly and with no 'temporary' backsliding. Don't contact him though. If you want his services badly enough, he will contact you.

Well done everyone - keep it up!!!

Had my last one at 1.30am. Still had 18 cigs in my packet so left them at the party so as not to be tempted.
Had a bit of a wobble this morning when I had my 1st cup of tea (usually accompanied by a fag) and realised that this was it:help:
Slapped on my patch and been ok since.

im on my 4th lozenge (suprisingly thought id have done the whole packet in on the first day!) but they taste that horrible i tend to keep taking it out and resuming my NRT at intervals so when it says have one every hour, mines lasting a lot longer

also, what suprised me is that ive had a can of my favorite beer and i thought that it would make my craving worse and it hasnt. in fact is calmed down the anxiety pangs you get when you body's reducing the levels of nicotine

im glad the links help...that photo(on the weblinks) is well thought provoking on the dangers,it only took a few months to kill thet guy after diagnosis

Nothing today, no help, no patches, just will power and not spending the money.

I need to keep thinking small, after a week my habit is to then say 'a month' when i should be saying 'another week'!

Plus, it helps if no-one mentions cigs, the act of talking about them or seeing someone smoking bump up the craving, sometimes to unbearable levels.

I'm going to try things such as - I have a little notebook I always carry round with me. On the back page I've just written

"I am determined to stop smoking. I will write down every time I want/have a cigarette. Hopefully I won't smoke again.
-
SMOKING KILLS OVER 1/5 OF MEN
-
CAUSES IMPOTENCE

hopefully just looking at that will help me out.

It all depends on who or what you read as to whether NRT will help or hinder. I've read it can double your chance of succeeding (will find link later) so I'm sticking with it.
I've tried cold turkey a couple of times before, and although I agree if you can do it, the Nicotine is out of your system quicker but I'm doing a 2-pronged approach. I'll use patches that give me a constant small dose of Nicotine throughout the day while I get used to the fact that I'm not actually smoking a cigarette and hopefully changing that habit.

I don't think there is a right or wrong way - whichever helps you and believe me I've tried most of them :D

Luckily enough for me i finally gave up back in August 2004... having my tongue pierced helped me a great deal... not wanting to smoke on an open wound and all that... plus going around with 95% non-smokers really helped too...

For a couple of months later tho i did have the odd puff now and again whilst out drinking should someone i was with be lighting up... but other then that stopped now completely... feel so much better within myself for doing it... :D

I want to wish all you smokers trying/wanting to give up for the new year all the best of luck... and remember tomorrow is always another day should you relapse... but dont let there be too many tomorrows...

I've come down with flu/tonsilitis again (it's the 4th time in 2 months) so it's pretty easy for me at the moment as there's not a chance I want to smoke.

Last night was pretty hard though, I couldn't sleep and when I did doze off I kept dreaming about smoking. I never thought I'd feel as bad as I did last night!

I had a cigarette last night at the nightclub, it tasted foul but felt so good.

Anyway, apart from that i'm on day 5 now cold turkey. Feeling different to how i've felt when quitting before, I have the feeling of 'I CAN do this'

Thats all you need guys: a PMA!

I learnt today that 1/2 of ALL smokers die of a smoking related illness.

If it's true that 1/3 of the population smokes that means 1/6 of our entire population dies of a smoking illness. Thats put me right off.

It's about the unhealthiest thing you can possibly do. Running headfirst repeatedly into a wall is possibly worse, but only slightly - and at least that only hurts you, not everyone around you / random strangers e.g. me. In fact, the wall thing might even be amusing.

Good luck with giving it up. You can do anything with sufficient motivation - way I gave up drinking was just to say I'm never drinking again and mean it... it became kind of a challenge, proving my ability to control what I do. Resisting temptation suddenly became a lot more rewarding than giving into it.

Ahh back to odd dreams..............

I dreamt last night that I was stood in my neighbours conservatory and telling her how my husband - he was stood at the side of me - would love to have a look at her conservatory and how she show him someday.

This then moved onto an old man in the corner who told me he was her youngest son - my neighbour is around 40ish.

It then moved onto me trying to get the number from directory enquiries for Polar Ford in Barnsley and getting very cross with the woman who couldn't find the number.

Then and finally it ended with me sitting on my front garden eating a pot of ambrosia custard with a green spoon.

I am seriously considering not sleeping anymore !!

OK, here we go.

Smoked loads on New Year's Eve.

Still had some left on New Year's day, so smoked them - but not all of them. I finished the last one on the morning of 2 January.

Didn't smoke yesterday, or today.

I'm following the Alan Carr principle - the only way to stop smoking is to stop. Nicotine patches only extend the agony, so I am on total cold turkey.

At least that is two days clear - I am told that I should feel a lot better next week?

Hi all, I stopped on New Years Eve at 11pm. So so far not had a fag in 2006. Its really hard, I keep eating fruit and stuff everytime I get a craving, otherwise Ill end up obese, which is just as dangerous I think!! I havent got patches or anything on, Im sure they are just mind over matter, so totally cold turkey. Everything is starting to smell really strong now, my partner still smokes (outside) and when he comes in, he smells like an old ashtray :gag: So at least I dont smell like that anymore. But to be honest, i do keep feeling miserable and sad, and as though something is missing (grim or what!) Ill keep on with it though, and just take one day at a time, good luck to rest of you, glad there are other people who feel as bad as me.

How do you cope when your boyfriend is smoking though? I know you say he smells like an ashtray but I'd find that so difficult if others (esp boyfriend) was smoking around me.

My boyfriend is quiting along with me but I seriously doubt he is going to make it. I'd love him to prove me wrong but I think he knows himself that he'll give in to temptation soon. When he does it's going to be really hard for me to stay off the fags so good on you for not giving in when your boyfriend has one!

Thats balls, it was a moment of drunken weakness. By your argument someone not smoking at that particular moment is a non smoker.

I consider my mental decision to not smoke the point of my non smoking, the moment i break is when i give up trying, whihc isn;t gonna happen hopefully.

 Well done to everyone still off the fags!!!

Nice to see a few new faces aswell. Keep it up everyone!

Day 5 for me and the toughest yet - not helped by my boss and colleagues constantly trying to cajole me into having a cig. :shakes:
Lindsey - I hope that if I dream of my boss tonight it involves something a little more evil than string beans and salad cream  :hihi:

So I'm in need of a little encouragement, but I'm sure I'll survive another day.

Keep posting everyone and keep up the good work.

I'm struggling too today. I could smoke a fag right now.
Nearly gave up earlier when I found a cig in my house but my friend came over and I gave it to her. She then smoked it and asked if I wanted some, it was so so tempting but I said no.

I really thought after the first couple of days I'd be ok but this is dreadful!

P.S. MysTique - well done for not giving in!!

Likewise to you my little Zimily - are you feeling better BTW?
That's soooo cruel to waft a fag under your nose - I would've been so tempted to just .....take......one....little....puff. :o

But you didn't, and I didn't so we'll get there. :D

Zimily
05-01-2006, 21:27
I hope so. I know, I thought it was cruel too. She doesn't even smoke normally, she could've waited until I wasn't around knowing how difficult I've found it today.

Erm, I'm feeling a little better thanks, hence the wanting a fag so desparately, still I'm not going into work until next week so by then I'm hoping that I'll cope without the cigarettes a little better then I would've done this week!

Yup we'll get there, as I've said before it's pretty good having the forum to turn to knowing people are in the same position and encouraging each other, so thanks

Hi everyone
Still here - day 6. Well done to all of you who are still going.
I am using a quit counter too (http://www.xarka.com/freeware/)
- it tells you how much money you have saved. So far I have saved £10.87. Think I'll treat myself to a new CD this weekend as a reward!!
Keep on keeping on...

That's a useful download, ginger - apparently I have saved over £18 already! I will keep checking that if I feel like starting up again!

I've just downloaded that quit counter thing and finally figured out how to work it! Silly me I got all confused, anyway I've saved £14.07. Think I'm gonna put all the money I save aside until the end of the month and shop with it!! Here's hoping I'll make it until the end of the month!

I decided to quit late feb 2001 so I did some research on how and why the body reacts how it does as time goes by after giving up, withdrawal symptoms etc.
I then, armed with some knowledge, made some ground rules about who or what was going to make decisions in my life,me or the temporary but explainable effects of certain drugs.
I made my decision.... gave up .......drank loads and I mean loads of water(you will pee like there's no tomorrow) until your kidneys regulate...and stuck to it.
I had one night of grief/shakes but i knew why this was happening so I delt with it.
It will be 5 years on march 17th and I have never smoked since.

Phew.

Stopped around two years ago. Used to smoke between 40 and 60 cigarettes. I visited an Allen Carr stop smoking seminar in Birmingham. Was allowed to smoke during the seminar and then stopped. Have never smoked since.

Good Luck to you all.

HI and well done to all of you!!!

I had my last cigarette yesterday at 10 pm, and am finding it soo difficult at work today, but reading your posts really gives me motivation!I am going cold turkey as i think NRT just extend the agony.

I was a heavy smoker (30 a day at least), and tried last year to quit. It lasted 5 days and i remember that the first 3 days were defo the worse, so i know what to expect!!

Please you all who quit some time ago, keep posting about the benefits you got from it, as it really helps!!

Good luck to all!

very well done for keeping it up, and if you haven't quite managed it, remember the slogan " Don't give up giving up "
I meantioned last week that I wasn't going to be able to keep up the progress of you all because I was going into hospital. Well I am back out now , and I have had my heart fixed !
I have very strong feelings about smoking and the very bad effects caused by the evil weed, I am now waiting for a double lung transplant . My lungs have been damaged over the 43 years that I smoked , thirty fags a day. I have been lucky enough to be offered the chance of a transplant by the doctors in Manchester. The heart disease was also caused by the smoking by the way.
so all I can say to you all now is good luck and hang in there Try your best to avoid what I am going through now!!
It will all be worth it:thumbsup:

Good to hear that your op went ok

My grandad also smoked and had a colapsed lung, it had 3 holes in and the doctor said to him that he'd never seen a lung with 3 holes iin before. He had his lung stappled up and has massive scares on his back. He's also had 2 heart attacks and a stroke all through smoking. He is now no longer a smoker, as he stopped after his lung collapsed and I'm pleased to say (although he's still quite ill and the stroke has caused memory loss) he's still around and fighting all the problems smoking has caused.

I know I should have never started smoking after seeing what my grandad has gone through and having my step dad die of smoking related problems but I did and regret it.

deecee I hope you get the new lungs you need and all goes well for you

Hi Zimily (nice avatar BTW!) Glad your still doing well!
Yep - I've hung on and it is now getting a little easier.
Crunch point came on Friday (day6) when all I could think about was having a cigarette. Finally went out and bought 10 B+H. :o Got back and realised that it was just the action of smoking I missed and not the cigarette itself. I realised that if I lit one it would taste awful and I'd be so disappointed in myself.
So they are still in the unopened packet on the side, and I've felt much calmer since. :)
Still taking it one day at a time, am not complacent as I know that unlike those of you who've gone cold-turkey(you have my admiration for that) in a few months time I'll have to come off these patches so could indeed be back to square one!

Good luck graffy, keep going zimily, ginger_lion and chocotiger.
How are you doing SW, BT, Lindsey, MrH?

If anyone has succumbed, don't be too disappointed - I have tried to quit approx 7 times before this by hypnotherapy, gum, cold-turkey, patches, Allen Carr etc and I've learnt something each time (yes I know:hihi: ) so have a break and try again another time. Nicotine is extremely addictive.

Anyway I've waffled on for far too long now, sorry, but keep posting everyone and yell for help if you need it.

Mucho respect to all of you still going on day 11.
I almost cracked this morning while we were waiting for response on our offer on a house. Managed to smother the cravings by scoffing chocolate instead. And now the offer has been accepted  so I guess things are going to be even more stressful for the next few months!! I am proud of myself for getting through a v.stressful couple of hours without the dreaded weed.

I’ve quit the fags and not touched one since approx 12:10am on the 1st Jan.

I’m going for the will power method but I don’t have an addictive personality, as they call it, so I’m doing fine without them.

I even had a 'helpful' friend offer me a fag in the pub on Sat night .... I refused

Hiya all you non smokers , and welcome to all those who have joined since 1st Jan 2006.

thanks for those kind words MysTique , I hope my encouragement has helped. I know the nicotine craving is really bad and the fact that you aren't actually holding anything in your fingers is reminding you as well. A trick we used is to hold a pencil or a piece of rolled up paper in your fingers , but remember not ot light it up, lol.

I hope everybody stays in the non smokers club of the Sheffield Forum.
I reckon the" Mods" ought to make this thread a "sticky " if that's at all possible, just for members to come on and say how they are doing and for that bit of back up from like minded forumers.....come on mods ....can you do that. I'm sure it could possibly help!!!!

12-01-2006, 07:50
Thx Deecee for that!! I agree with you, this thread should become a "sticky", cos quitting is a long term process and we will need support and encouragement for months to come!
I hope everyboby is sticking to their resolutions!

It's been nearly 3 days now for me and apparently nicotine is about to be completely expelled from my body now (cold turkey makes it so quicker, compared to my previous failures with NRT!), so should be slightly easier from today D

Once again well done to all of you and keep the good work!!

Erm, I have a massive confession to make. And people please don't get cross with me because I already feel angry and upset with myself for this.

I went to the pub on Tuesday night and although I drank in the pub I didn't have a cigarette. I went back to my boyfriends house with his mate and my boyfriend was extremely drunk and started smoking. I resisted for a while but eventually gave in! I had a few cigarettes and can't explain how much I regret it.

I'd managed 10 days and gave in, I am so so so cross. I did go to the pub again last night and I managed to not smoke and I am now more determined than ever that I am going to kick this habbit (I can only hope that this feeling of guilt and the horrid taste I had in my mouth next day not to mention tight chest will help me kick the habbit as it's reminded me how horrid it is and how bad for your health it is)

I'm confessing as I want everyone who is tempted to smoke not to do it. It makes you feel so disapointed with yourself and makes it once again harder to carry on quiting. I'm having cravings again which had calmed down before but are a lot stronger again.

Please people - don't give in like I have. I'm sorry to let everyone down on here but only hope that I will be of some help to show how you guys to carry on.

Here's to quiting......again......

Now then Mrs "I'm not going to be the first to give in" :hihi: :hihi: (sorry Zim, couldn't resist)

First of all we'll have no more talk of letting anyone down, the only one disappointed in yourself is you. No-one's perfect, some people don't get it right first time and slip-ups happen. It's only because I remember all too well how you're feeling that I haven't reached for those fags and it's taken me a long time to learn that. Just keep the memory of how you're feeling now to help prevent you lighting up next time and don't be too hard on yourself.

Not too bad today, still just taking one day at a time - I'm dreading coming off the patches though :o

I know it's early days but I haven't seen any real benefit yet :suspect: (apart from financially of course) Sense of smell / taste still the same as before and I have an highly attractive 'rattle' of a cough :hihi:

I'm not a smoker, never have been... Infact I've not even tried one! Childhood asthma kind of puts you off when breathing alone is difficult enough! :(

I'm supporting my best mate at uni who is a social smoker... She genuinely only smokes when we have a drink, and never in her room, or back home etc... She knows how bad it is for her, but its so hard to encourage her to stop when the only time she does it is the only time when I'm not 100% in control of myself.

Surely she cant be addicted if she can take them or leave them just like that? Or would having a drink without a ciggy be an entirely different matter? I really find it difficult to understand, not ever having tried one... But I know she leads herself on a right guilt trip when she gets up the following morning and her hair and fingers stink of cigs :gag: and my hair too, come to mention it.

What can I do to help her?

ive had that in my face!...phone the quit line its free ask them...i'd put it down to anxiety...when yur stressed and overbreatheing an oxygen imbalance causes tinglies...but ring em to check...you might be reacting to some lame ingredient in the patches other than the nicotine

Not read whole thread so might be repeating what others have said!

I quit smoking 8 months ago! I was complete nicotine addict who thought they enjoyed smoking. I tried and failed several times. I read Allan Carr and stopped. I found it easy, had very little withdrawal and didn't need any willpower. I recommend reading his original book (not the later additions), Allan Carrs EASYWAY.

I haven't touched one at all, no crafty drags or cigs when drunk. NOTHING. I don't crave, I don't think about it. I was very surprised at how easy it was.

My word of advice is, don't use nicotine replacements. All your doing is supplying your drug habit in a different form and giving money to the drug industry for keeping you addicted. Some people do stop smoking by using patches and gum etc, then find they can't stop the nicotine gum. Like any drug addict, you need to withdraw and stop taking it. After all you don't give Heroin to a Heroin addict to help them stop do you!

Anyways, I know how hard it can be, so just trying to help by sharing how I did it.

Good luck all and well done

that's brilliant Fox, I think a lot more people on the forum ought to come on and add their experience of stopping smoking , just to be some help. That's my opinion anyway.

Craig , keep at it , the tingling is with the patches. If you carry on ,it will go away. It's much better than smoking, at least you're not getting all the tar and other stuff in your lungs., good luck

good luck to everybody and well done all of you

Good Girl SW - I'm really proud of you. Well done!! I'm sorry you've not been well and hope you're feeling a lot better but keep off those fags. ;)
Thanks for your input Foxx, scottf and of course our cheerleader deecee. Encouragement is what we need.
Craig - I can only presume the same as the others that it's the patches doing this. What strength patch are you on? Maybe you only need the Step 2 patch. I'd check it with the Quitline and the best of luck to you.

Now for me - I promised the lovely Zimily that I would be honest so will admit to you all that I've had a few this weekend  SW was so right when she said one cig would lead to another. It does!!!
How do I feel? A total and utter failure, stupid, disappointed and very very angry with myself. I've no excuses.
So to all my lovely quit buddies I apologise profusely and promise that I've not given in, I'll keep on with quitting.

For everyone that's trying to give up - please keep going, try not to give in because this feeling is awful. You have my best wishes.

Hi guys, not been on line for a few days so it's good to catch up on everyones progress and good to see some new faces on this thread.
Craig - my advice would be to keep checking this thread for encouragement and support. It really has helped me, although I had a few the other day the support of others on here has kept me going.

Now MysTique, please please don't say your a failure, your not! I felt exactley like you the other day and you gave me such strong words of support, listen to your own words and you'll be fine - they've made me stronger! You can do this and you have all us on here for support whenever you need it. Keep stong x

Oh and SW I hope you feel better now, it is horrid being ill but it helped me handle the cravings also - basically I had none because i felt so bad!

my doctors surgery rang me at five tonight to ask me if i would be interested in going on a stop smoking course...ill give it a go.
any one else done one of these courses ?

MysTique
17-01-2006, 13:12
Thank you all for your kind words and lovely PM's. I'm now back on track and with the support from here am determined to crack this.

Depoix - go for it. You've nothing to lose. IIRC the first couple of weeks on the course are just getting to know the rest of the group and looking at all the different aids to help you quit. If you do decide to use some form of NRT then you can get this on prescription, which is a big saving even if you pay for your prescriptions. You don't actually stop smoking until the 2/3? week which gives you time to prepare mentally.
If you do decide to have a go then Good Luck and post back on here as there's a tremendous amount of support and encouragement from some lovely people going through or have been through the same thing.

How is everyone getting on?

MysTique - is so good to have you back feeling strong and determined to get through this! Good on ya!

Hope people have remained strong today, it was an extremely tough one for me today, really having a bad time at work and I normally nip out for a fag when I feel stressed but I can't do that anymore.

I substitued the cigarettes for a packet of fruit pastels and managed to get through it!! I even turned down a cigarette off my friend - I feel proud of myself now and I'm really glad I didn't have one!

Anyway, hope everyone's doing well

Hello!! How is everybody doing? I have not posted for a while, as i could not access internet from work (how dare they!are we supposed to actually work at the office?:suspect: ).

I have not touched one ciggie since i stopped on 09.01 and am loving it! I went to pub last week every night from Thursday to Sunday and got plastered, but not one puff!!

Hope everybody's sticking to their resolution, good luck for today,

Yeah, well done graffy

I'm doing pretty well to be honest. I'm very suprised as my week has not gotten better at work and I thought I would have caved in last night!

I even went to the pub last night and drank nearly a bottle of wine and I didn't smoke! I thought to myself this morning that if I had a cigarette then my mouth would've been all fuzzy and horrid like it always is after you've smoked and it wasn't! Nice feeling for a change - oh apart from the wine head of course! :D

Anyway, hope people are still going strong, think about it, we're not that far off a whole month!!

Hmm, I'm beginning to see what you mean.
She was doing so well the other night... We drank ourselves silly before we went out and by the time we'd got to the Leadmill, she was fine, ciggy-free.... Then she met this guy who was a smoker and I turned around from shaking-my-thang to find her smoking away, literally behind my back! The little beggar! I remembered and gave her a lecture about it the following morning. :( Think this is gonna be harder than I initially thought.

I cut from 2 packs to 15 cigs a day, and thought I was doing well. A biopsy showing I had cancer of the larynx proved otherwise. That was 4 years ago and with radiation therapy I have been clean ever since, but it was a real wake up call. tried nicorette for a while which helped, but the only way in the end is cold turkey. Booze and coffee are bad news until you find yourself craving less and less. I even indulge in a crafty drag now and then ( My wife would kill me ) but no addiction.

Zimily i see what you mean about the day after your bottle of wine: i used to feel really sh*** after a heavy session at pub, but last weekend, all i got was a headache for the first 2-3 hours of the day and not that disgusting feeling and taste in my mouth i was so used to having!

If at first you don't succeed.....

No worries, been there myself, tried and failed a few times until I read Allan Carr, 8 months ago and not touched one since.

Give it a go, there's no harm in trying his method, unless you don't really want to stop. I had the book on my book shelf for 2 years before I was ready to read it! I had my last cigarette on May 11th 2005. What's the significance of this date? Nothing! That's the day I finished the book! Why wait until 1st Jan?? There's never a right time, there's always excuses, so give it another go now. Don't wait until a certain date, it's putting pressure on yourself and building up your fear of stopping on that day. I smoked while I read the book, which you're supposed to do, and by the time you get to the end, if it works for you, you won't want to smoke anymore. I can't explain how easy it was. I was a full time, heavy smoker, who couldn't live without it and couldn't bear the thought of running out, or going somewhere where I couldn't smoke. Now I'm free from that hanging over my head and it feels great.

I hope all of you that are trying have this feeling one day. Good Luck

I agree with Foxxx, you don't have to stop on a certain date ,I'm sure it will add to the pressure. And don't give up trying, you will do it !

Hi all, you are all doing so well!!! I have still not had a fag in 2006, I feel proud, and have been putting the cash in a 'stop smoking' savings tin. You cant open the tin unless you use a tin opener, Im dying to know how much is in it!!!! Im finding this really hard, and feel quite depressed and sad:( but I do keep going, and think to myself if I REALLY want one, I can have one, but then I dont bother (god, I could argue with my own shadow!!!) Anyway good luck the rest of you, and we are nearly on a month soon!!!! Yipppeeeee!!!!

Hey everyone!

Hope everyone is getting on well.

Confession time for me again and I'm so sorry. I had one on Friday night, I knew it was going to happen, I went to the pub and was in the worst mood ever!!! Had such a bad week and Jaynie, I'm also getting bad depression through not smoking! :(

I know I shouldn't have done it and regret that I did but it was only one and I've not had a craving since.

Please don't give up on me people, :help: I know this is the second time I've slipped but I really do want to do this but am just finding it such a struggle.

I hope you appreciate me being honest with you guys, I didn't want to tell you as I felt so ashamed of myself but I couldn't write on here without telling the truth.

I hope you all had a better weekend than me

We won't give up on you hun!! Read my PM Zim xxx

Just think about what you've achieved so far. Ok so you've had a couple of cigs, how many would you have smoked if you'd not quit on 01 Jan? Will those couple of cigs really matter in a years time?
I hope you'll stay with us but just remember that none of us are here to judge or criticise, most of us are going through or have been through it, fully understand and are here to help in whatever way we can. :)

BTW - how did it taste? :o :D

Zimily
22-01-2006, 21:04
Ok honestly??? I tasted good, but afterwards it tasted bad. I was left with a taste of dirty dirty smoke in my mouth :gag: and I didn't want it there. It was definately the nicotine I was after.

I'm consitering giving the patches a go for a while and seeing how I get on, it's something I'll consider after the end of this week.

I'm positive I can make it to next weekend but I'm scared I'll fail again come Friday night. EEK!

Thanks M - I've checked how many cigarettes I would have smoked if I hadn't of quit and it would have been 219!!!! EWE! That's horrid, anyway I've had 11 instead on 2 separate occasions so yeah I guess it's all not that bad, (I know it's not good either) and I do want to do this so I'm going to stick with it.

Thanks hun, your pretty much my rock right now!
