New to Sheffield and I've got my friend and his family coming over tomorrow. We're off out for a meal so I wanted some ideas (and locations please I live in the city centre but happy to travel).

We like most types of food Italian, Mexican and Indian are always favourites but happy to go anywhere and for any style really just looking for somewhere good.

You can have all that and more at the Oasis in the Meadowhall Centre! The only draw back being; the food is over-priced, tastes like dog droppings and you have to sit next to some family with fourteen unhealthy kids who think they are living it up because they are eating a mcdonalds mcspine burger deep fried in **** and topped in ****. But you do get to watch the Meadowhall television - so it's swings and roundabouts really! Have a lovely time!;)

Thanks your sarcasm is duly noted and I thought this forum was supposed to be helpful for newbie’s to Sheffield like me!

Wig and Pen is good in the city centre. Dam House near the university or 543 on Eccy Road. All provide different choices and decent food.
If you want more of a pub, the Cricket inn is good.

Que Pasa (not sure that's how they spell it) is good on West Street kind of Italian and Mexican also Ask is nice - just opposite John Lewis that's your pizza pasta type thing

Italian: Mama's and Leone's - Norfolk Strett
Chinese: Zing Va on the Moor on Tim Po on London Road
Sushi: Wasabi Sabi - London Road
Curry: Butlers Balti House - near Brook Hill roundabout

I could go on - stop me if any of these sound good.

I like Las Iguanas in West One, nice Mexican/Latin place.

Please don't take them to the Oasis at Meadowhall!! It's just fast food, and very busy, it would be my worst nightmare (each to their own I know). I would agree that the Wig & Pen is worth a visit, Seasons on Abbeydale Rd is supposed to be very good, and not expensive, going there NYE so will let you know. Also, Boho looks good for food, Campo Lane, Cafe Guru is a good Indian, a bit s****ier than your usual, but good. Milano's is excellent at Millhouses, but expensive. Hope this helps! Good luck and enjoy!!

Ah you see I was spelling it the correct Spanish way - as in Que Pasa? - what is the matter?

The restaurant is spelt K' Pasa and is actually on Glossop Road not West Street my mistake.

And I agree Milanos is great but very expensive. La Scala just round the corner from Milanos in Millhouses is also nice and cheaper than Milanos

Sheffnewb,
Not many of these rply's look very helpful. It depends what you are looking for. I would forget the likes of Meadowhell and try to take your guests to a nicer higher quality place, London Road will have something to impress. There are plenty of Italians down there but all are a bit tired now. Wassabi Sabi is good and if you book the Tepanyaki table you get nice food cooked in front of you! excellent entertainment!!!

You could try Mao's just down the road a decent chinese place.

But if you want authenticity you MUST go to Dim Sum on London road. It is the best taste and best value authentic food in Sheffield. Which probably explains why it is always full of Chinese customers.

I used to frequent the Canton Orchard on Fulwood Road it is a higher class joint - a bit pricey but impressive for western Chinese tastes - ( I once met Jeffrey Archer and Robert Powell in there) also it is where the Snooker stars end up in March!

For the best food go to Dim Sum
