i'm researching my dad who worked in sheffield in the late 60's. His name was bill birch and i know he worked as a dj in the top rank club his stage name was billy the whiz kid.

The DJ I remember from the top rank was called big John who was there around 1972 to the late 70s.
He was a poser, chewing gum and wore sun glasses.
He knew his stuff but I think John was his name rather than a stage name.
Have I got the person your thinking about.

no my dads name was bill birch and he was a dj in the top rank club from 66-69. i know he had long hair and definately called himself billy the whiz kid. i think he worked the same places as joe cocker and i know he used to go to geoff stringfellows club. thanks for your help.

you may have known my dad as a mate. his name was william birch but was known as bill. he joined the RAF in 1969 and would have been 21 years old

Pretty unlikely, I was only 10 in 1969, however if he originated in the Pitsmoor area then I may know the family.
I think there is a good chance someone on this History and expats may know him.
