Ah, December the 25th, that once a year annual event that brings families closer together round a blazing log fire, roasting each others chestnuts and sticking holly in you, etc, etc. That glorious time of good will to all men (and women), a bottle of port, the cheese-board and those horrible twiglet snacks. The jolly cry of the distant cousins careering around the Christmas tree and demolishing it in one thrash of a Star Wars light sabre....the cry of pain as the second cousin far removed runs over your foot in the toy tardis.....the anguished yelp as the dog is attacked by the third cousin twice removed with a collection of freshly acquired weapons from various games and sci-fi movies.....the scuffle of the 4th cousins nine times removed as they attack the budgie with ray guns, sub atomic devices, and the mind numbing roar of 6 gameboy machines and Playstations as they burst forth from the wrapping paper and explode into life.....the crackers popping round the Xmas table and the obligatory ghastly paper hats and awful jokes....the mince pies stuck to the ceiling after 6th cousin 8 times removed practices his new catapult set.......the bits of minced turkey dinner from 7th cousin 12 times removed, aged 3, as she ejects her Xmas dinner...the whining incessant wail of an Auntie as she reveals her neighborhood watch scheme triumphs over the previous 12 months, and the clack of Great Grandmas knitting needles as she produces endless scarfs, hats, coats, pullovers, jumpers, pants, and everything else that could ever be knitted.....

AH, God rest ye merry family XMas........a time to....er.....er....remember?

I'm afraid our xmas day this year was one of the worst my family has ever had.

For starters, our dog Max had to be put down 2 days before and my mum hasn't stopped crying since.

Then, to try and get things off my mind, I drunk myself into the worst state I've ever been in on xmas eve, smashed all my face on the floor and couldn't make it out of bed for xmas dinner.. and the general atmosphere in the house was really bad.

Hopefully next year will be better.

Its meaningless without your family around you. The two Christmases I spent without my family were very miserable. The only thorn in my side is daughter's boyfriend ... but the kids make up for that, and I get to chuck him out at 5.
