I have a fairly old PC that needs a new graphics card & was wondering what people would charge on here to fit it.

It should be real easy to fit a new graphics card mate. Do a google search and you'll find some good installation guides that'll help.

No need to pay someone else when you can teach yourself.

Pm me everything you know about your pc (specs) and what price your willing to pay, it would also be handy if I knew what you used your computer for e.g. are you a gamer?

daz25

No idea what the specs are thats why i need a graphics card!

It is mainly used for high spec gaming

Ok follow these instructions:

Click start/control panel/system/

You should now be able to read what your specs are. Write them down and then send it to me.

eg

Packard Bell
AMD Athlon 64 Processor
3200+
2.20 Ghz
1.00GB RAM

If its "fairly old" as you say, then you wont be doing much "high spec" gaming on it. And, as trentboy says, he can hardly go out and order/purchase a card to fit for you if he doesnt know what hes fitting it into. Is it PCI, AGP, PCI-E? If its AGP, is it 2x, 4x or 8x? As he said, he needs more info before he can help.

Woo there with the confusing lingo slh73, were gonna have to take this one nice and slowly, a half step at a time, :D

Lets just figure out what computer Daz has got before we really scare him with all this talk of AGPs and PCIs.

Are you having a laugh?
You want the card for "high end gaming" but you dont know how to fit one?
It takes 30 seconds. It simply clicks into place.

Maybe for a PC engineer!!!!

I am no PC engineer.
If you were to pay someone to do it,
and then watched them actually install it, you would feel a bit of a tit to be honest.
Its like offering someone cash to change the batteries in your TV remote.

Thats right. I wont even attempt to mess about with any hardware myself, thats why i put this post about getting someone to do it!!!

ie would a vet know how to repair a car???

yeah calm down, it might seem easy to those of us who have done it, but if you've never taken a case off a pc before it may seem daunting.

also, im guessing from your earlier post daz, that you dont have any graphics card in the pc at the moment ?

daz25

if he drives and learns about it yes :)

if i was you, id do what i did to learn abit about puters

read stuff on the net about em (guides/tutorials)
have a fiddle (start with windows stuff before the hardware)
buy a book / magazine) i have a few starter magazines on hardware/repairing pcs

do a short part time course?
ive done word processing/spreadsheets/databases
photoshop / digital photography
building and repairing pcs/networks

i was unemployable at the time mind :P

the more you read up on the subject, the more practice you get the less youll be scared, the more youll know and be able to do yourself
the more money youll save by not giving it to people like us :P
errrrrrm

Daz, I have been looking into your prev posts, and am confused.

I notice that you put an ad on here to sell a 3.6GHz PC.
And yet you state your current PC as pretty old/basic!!
3.6 is very good indeed! Right up there in terms of speed - it would cost a lot of money.

So why are you selling it to use "a basic PC"??

So I thought you were just mucking about with your graphics card post.

But then I saw your laptop ad on Ebay, where you attempted (and suceeded!) to sell a laptop with stating the manufacturer, processor speed or memory of said laptop!

Who are you? PC Shark or PC Donkey?

might just need new drivers installing?

if you go into start/control panel/system/device manager
or start/run/dxdiag
they can both give you info about your graphics

Guderian,

If you wish to debate 'one to one' with Daz25 please use the PM facility.

Please try to not make things too personal here.

thanks,

Joe

Dude you can't get any decent (accurate) answers about a new graphics card on here until you let someone know the basic specification of your machine...

And you (as you rightly point out) can't go into & windows & have a look at what it is until you get a new graphics card.

Therefore you have 2 choices...

1. Open your machine up, try & make out numbers & whatnot & tell people here, to give someone an idea of what you have.

2. Just take the PC to any reputable geeky PC shop & ask them to fit a graphics card that'll make it work. There's a few on London Road & one towards Hillsborough (Very PC?) that'd help you out without the potential bull...
