URGENT! If you receive means-tested benefits you can claim a 60 quid rebate from British (or Scottish) Gas, though you must claim before 31 DEC 2005.

They are giving out rebates of £60 on winter bills - it is paid in two installments in November and February. The rebate is worth £40 for gas customers, £20 for electricity, i.e. £60 for customers getting both.

Check to see if you’ve received a form with your gas bill or call 0845 602 2008 with your account details and they’ll arrange the rebate. You have to be on one of the following benefits:

Vulnerable Customer - Eligible Benefits
• Disability living allowance
• Pension Credit
• Attendance allowance
• War disablement pension which includes either a mobility supplement or constant attendance allowance
• Disablement pension which includes constant attendance allowance
• Child tax credit where the relevant income is £14,600 or less
• Working tax credit where the relevant income is £14,600 or less
• Council tax benefit
• Housing benefit
• Income-based job seekers allowance
• Income support
• Carers Allowance
• Severe Disability allowance

If you know anybody eligible, pensioners, neighbours, family, etc, pass it on.

This applies to me. Is Scottish Power the same as Scottish Gas? Im with them. I guess not.

I have just switched from British Gas as I thought S P were cheaper. No way am I switching again, sick of all the hassle and cock ups.

Many thanks, Pinlock... Using the information that you posted, a friend of mine has just been promised a £20 rebate on each of their January & April bills... £40 in total.

Far better in their bank account than in that of British Gas! ;)

Thank you Pinlock, I've got mine, and I contacted an old lady who I knew was on benifit, and she got hers, this is such a boost for us when such a lot of our money is going on heating.
Thank you so much.

Does this rebate apply to customers on pre-payment meters?

Or is it just only those customers who have quarterly bills?

Customers who get quarterly bills get it as a credit on their bills and those on a token meter get it paid by cheque. This info came from the letter I recieved confirming my claim.

BTW, was anyone asked for proof of benefits or NI number etc? they never even questioned me or my mum when she claimed. Seems a bit slack to me.

Just phoned them up and although the date has now been extended the rebate is now £20 on gas and £20 on electric which is still better than a poke in the eye :hihi:
Thanks Pinlock

Thanks Pinlock, wouldn't have known anything about it. I phoned at 8am Monday 9, and was told it had been reduced to £30 which I accepted.
