I am a student trying to gauge views on the cultural industries in Sheffield, could you please tell me your views on whether the Art Galleries , Theatres, Showroom cinema and associated cafe's appeal to you and to the wider public, or are they an elitist waste of time, effort and money!!!

They are a boon where they don't require outside sources of funding. Unfortunately, many of them do.

can't say i use any of them. the showroom is a good idea, although it doesn't appeal to me. I don't know about a waste of money as they provide people jobs, however many of the high paid ones, i don't know how they justify them.

My personal opinion on this is that in the main Sheffielders don't really use these forms of entertainment/enlightenment. During my childhood we had loads of trips and school outings to places of historical interest as well as the art galleries and the theatre.
My children have been on school trips but I just don't think schools involve as many educational resources as they used to.
