my son opened drawer on his ps2 to change disks .... now it wont close. It seems like theres a big shiny thing inside stopping the drawer from closing. Anyone know what it could be & where I can get it repaired.
Thanks all

Having opened many PS2's I cant think of a 'shiny thing' thats in there to stop the drive from closing. May be a disk :D Only Joking!!
Have you just tried pushing gently on the drawer??? I presume your talking about one of the 'chunky' ones, not the new slimline PS2's. Like I say, I can't think of a shiny thing near the drawer that would stop it, except for a ribbon cable that powers the eject and power buttons. If it is that, and that is the only shiny thing near the draw, then I'd take it to a reputable console shop, and they should be able to help you.

If the shiny thing turns out to be the drawer control ribbon which is a shiny silver colour- it may have become torn, if so the best place to take your PS2 for it to be fixed is Station X in Dinnington if you can get to them.

My mate managed to screw through his ribbon cable and they only charged him I think £20 to sort it out.

Let me know if you need any help with sorting it out.

Thanks for you help ... its not a slimline one & the shiny thing seems to "pop up" at the back of the drawer. Will be taking it for repair tomorrow & will let you know outcome.
Cheers
Shaun

ps .. the drawer still tries to close when button pushed ... so dont think its the cable.

The shiny thing is the Autobalancer, it clamps the disk to the spindle in the middle, this should be down when the drawer is open but can stay up if the PS2 has been dropped (very common) or the drawer has been forced open, in which case may have snapped off a small piece of plastic from the runner and will need a new drawer. If it's been dropped you may be able to 'reseat' the drawer.

When this happened to my m8 we put it in as far as it would go, then just pushed it shut (slowly/carefully) and it worked ever since... still working to this day :) (that was about 2 years ago)
