Does anybody know how to improve digital (freeview) tv reception? I bought a £40 box as a Christmas present for someone, but the reception is blocky and stuttery on some channels - looks horrible, and is quite embarassing to have bought a present that doesn't work!!!!

Can you use signal boosters?

Don't get a booster, they need a new big aerial suitable for digital tv.
I live in a poor reception area but our new aerial works fine on freeview. £150 for the new aerial.

for the time being get an indoor aerial with a signal booster...you will have to fiddle about and retune to get most of the stations on tho...best rule of thumb is to tune in the bbc channels, they always have the best reception, then goto the signal strength meter on your set top box. if its strong then you are pointing the aerial in the right direction and the other channels should be an inch or so left or right direction...works for mine!

Cheers for the advice.

Believe it or not, we ended up twiddling the ariel cord a little - and hey presto all the channels were perfect. Before that half were great but half were dodgy as anything.

Thanks again.

I bought my own aerial from Argos cos I'm on a communal aerial; Freeview now works great but the TV channels are completely sh*te!

Following on from this, I've received a digital box as a xmas pressy but cannot get any reception whatsoever! We've also had aerial people round and none of their aerials work on our roof due to being in a bad reception area.

I've tried NTL/Telewest etc but none of them cover my area! The only thing I can get is Sky, but it'll cost at least £150 to get it installed...
Does anyone know any other way to get freeview??

I live in a non-technological community called Dronfield out towards Chesterfield...

Alright Fella, I live at said place as well and have freeview which works fine there is a guy who has a shop at Woodseats who sells and installs digitial TV equipment such as satellite dishes and aerials he fit mine at reasonable cost, alot of the time it's just a case of pointing the aerial in the general direction of the best transmitter in our case I think its Belmont though I have no idea what direction that is and you won't find me on the roof trying to find out either, not in this weather....... BRRRRRR..... Good Luck with it.....

From Dronfield Belmont will be almost due east - Market Raisen area in Lincs. Good transmitter, we use it from out here but you need to be fairly high up to get it with good reception.

Just type your postcode in here (http://www.freeview.co.uk/) and it tells you if the tv reception in your area is suitable for freeview.

Freeview olny covers about 85% of the country so its very much hit and miss,I had it at Netherthorpe but got rid of it as the reception was lousy.

I think I have answered this before but if you can get c 5 then you should get freeview, if not then you need a wide band aerial
