View Full Version : Little Britain- Is it going to be axed from the beeb?
Me and the missus were out bowling tonight with my future in-laws and family and we were talking about Little Britain and what they like about it.. they inlaws to be told me that Little Britain was too be axed by the beeb following a lot of complaints.
I dismissed the idea as being a bit mental, but after watching the show tonight- I think they might be onto something.
The show tonight was in a way 'tying up a lot of loose ends' in a sense which got me pondering if they are really going to bin it.
Did anyone else get the same impression after watching it tonight?
Even the missus picked up on it as well.
dieselbabe 25-12-2005, 01:42 Yes i too got this feeling too.I not watch them all this time around but i had my daughter watching it tonight as she is a fan and i thought the same.
It did look like that this was the last one ever,i not hear anything about it been axed from the bbc so i had no clue.
But it did look like to me they was trying to end it as all of the story lines of the charcters had a ending to them.To me it did not seem to be on as long as befor as well.ho maybe that because i've not watch them all.
I was wondering about it too, but then realised that really it was just the end of only a few of characters ~ Marjorie Dawes (although she could get some new fat fighters), Sebastian and Michael (although I can see that one carrying on) and Bubbles Devere.
Although it looked like the end for some more....
Lou came back to Andy;
Daffyd didn't go to London
Florence was tempted back into being a laydee
Vicky Pollard was still giving it all the mouth
Anne was still being Anne
Carol Beer was still working in the travel agents, even though the computer did say yes
I can't imagine the BBC axing a sure-fire hit, but might ask the writers to tone things down a bit in certain areas....or they may sideline it back to BBC2 or even BBC3, so that it isn't so mainstream.
Matt and David have said for ages that after series 3 they would take a break and may or mayt not come back to it. HOpe they don't other than maybe for one-off specials. Last night's was good but the rest of series 3 has been pretty ropey. Series 1 was great, series 2 was patchy, s3 very patchy. Can't sustain a series4 unless they completely buck up their ideas.
They've tied up loose ends in some way in every series, mind you..

I thought series 1 was going to be the last ever for that very reason.

Lets hope so
The BBC has said this series may be the last there won't be one made next year due to them being on tour and there are no plans to make anymore
I watched Little Britain last night, (I watch every one and have all the DVD's). I too noticed they seemed to be winding up certain characters on last nights show, but that is all I think they were doing, winding up certain sketches, I definitely don't think they were winding up the entire show.
I believe they'll take a years break now, maybe two, and then come back fresh and ready to make more, it's made them millions, it's made the BBC a fortune out of video & DVD sales worldwide, they're not likely to stop it while it's still so massively popular.
My opinion of each series ....
Series 1: Good.
Series 2: Excellent.
Series 3: Very good, (slightly tiring of some of the characters).
KEEP IT COMING!
PS,
I sent series 1 and series 2 to friends in New Zealand who had never heard of it and they all loved it too.
Mighty_Boosh 28-12-2005, 08:49 As much as I love LB I think it is time to put it to bed and go out on a high, how many programmes have you seen that just milk every last bit out of them (Only fools & Horses, Simpsons etc.), I think there has been some very funny sketches in last series, but a few of the characters are starting to get a bit stale.

David Walliams and Matt Lucas were interviewed the other night and did say that there would be no more next year, due to tour, however they are doing a Christmas special 2006.
They also said that some of the characters had to go to make way for new ones, Kenny Craig, Harvey...bitty and Dame Sally Markham have gone to make way for Ting Tong Macadangdang and Dudley Punt, Mrs. Emery and Roman and Desiree DeVere
I'm sure that we will be seeing more great creations from this pair in the shape of little britain or other projects.
Well I really hope they come back again, some of the characters do need chopping though, right now I love the MP Sir Norman Fry sketches, .... soooo David Mellor!!! .. HILARIOUS.
sTaGeWaLkEr 28-12-2005, 10:12 My unofficial sources at the BBC tell me that there is to be no further series of the show.
Matt Lucas and David Walliams feel that they have taken the characters in the show as far as they can go, and don't have the time or the energy to create new ones.
I'm also told that the boys felt it was time to 'bow out' while they were still on top. Hence the 'tying up the loose ends'
If you think that there were only ever twelve episodes of 'Fawlty Towers' written....and we're still watching it now....
The chaps are now busy spending lots of time enjoying the mass media attention from their efforts thus far before
contemplating their next move.
And, why not......

I completely disagree with that. I thought the first series was fantastic, but after that it went completely downhill. I thought they went too far in the second series and some of the sketches were just too sickening. I'm talking specificly about the 30something-year-old still feeding from his mums breast, the projectile vomiting woman and Bubbles Devere. They also dropped some of the best characters from the first series, the riddling Scotsman and Anne.
Agent Gypo 29-12-2005, 14:37 It's ok but I wouldn't really miss it. I'm waiting for Chris Morris' next extravaganza.
Annoni_mouse 29-12-2005, 15:16 Have to say, after the first series,I thought LB just became tired and predictable.
There arent that many comedies that can sustain more than a couple of series(Peep show?),and its noticeable that the two best comedies,in my opinion, of recent years(The office and Spaced)both bowed out after two series and deserve some credit for that.
I thought Only Fools and Horses got better with age, although the last three Christmas Specials were not up to the previous standard. They should have stopped after they became millionaires.
Well it would be a very boring life if we were all the same on this planet wouldn't it Sidla so I don't mind saying I absolutely totally disagree with every word you say about Little Britain.
BRING IT BACK.
