View Full Version : Suspicious Behaviour in Wincobank/Shiregreen.
Hi everyone,
This is my first post so please be gentle!
We live in Wincobank and last night as me and my wife were getting back from work we spotted a guy on our back at the end of our archway, he had a shovel and was clearly up to no good so we confronted him and he ran off leaving the shovel propped up between our back and next doors. Next door have large bay windows and they were out at the time. I think if we were a few minutes later he would have broken into next door and nicked their presents/cash/whatever.
We rang the police and they told us not to touch the shovel, but when they arrived they confirmed there wasn't much point taking it (don't know why)!
They then said that there had been many call outs tonight regarding suspicious behaviour in this and the Shiregreen area.
So everyone if you are in these areas and are going out tonight, please be careful.
Oh, and the police turned up within 10 minutes (probably because they were in the area), but I was well impressed with their attitude and professionalism and I am one of the cynics of the police force.
Lee:)

The police farce aren't interested in doing any work. The only justice you will get is that you take for yourself.
The next time you see someone up to no good you might want to deal with the matter yourself instead of calling the hopeless, lazy, disinterested coppers that will fail to take any action.

What wonderful advice. You're obviously a pillar of the community.
Lee - I'm sure that anyone who lives in Shiregreen / Wincobank will appreciate your post.
Internetowl 24-12-2005, 13:09 except the burglers (of which there are plenty!)

I don't claim to be.
However, I have a axe with a three foot handle sharpened to the max. One single blow will cleave the skull of an intruder to the brain stem.
There are two groups; the winners and the losers. You must decide which group you want to be in.
Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Know what I mean?

True say.
If I ever caught next man trying to rob the house. He wouldnt be walking home, he would end up in a hospital bed. The police wouldnt be called because I dont want to waste their time for petty matters :)

Kirsty_87 24-12-2005, 16:15 My boss lives in Wincobank and she got broke into last night BEFORE 10 oclock. She got home to find they had broken in through the conservatory and taken presents from under the tree, the tv, computer, jewellery, cd's and dvd's.
Aparently it was two men who had done it, but as burglars were wearing gloves, the police are unable to do much.
I hope (somehow) they catch these thieving gits.
You cannot get fingerprints off wood, which is why they never took it, but it needed a visual assessment first.
Invaliduser. You sound like a keyboard warrior. A cliche'd one at that.

Its funny cos I call them theiving b******* with no sense of decency or morality.
As a resident of Shiregreen I object to your generalisation of the decency and honesty of Shiregreen and Wincobank residents

the police have their hands tied behind their back

Coming from Shiregreen and now living in Wincobank, I know exactly what you mean....
...then again, if I came from any other district, I would know what you meant, because I know that there's good and bad areas everywhere...the way of the world these days you know?
Maybe you should go check that shed of yours Internetowl, you might be a shovel down. ;)

you are allowed to defend yourself and your property (although having an axe specifically for that purpose makes it premeditated and thus a crime).
The police are allowed to defend you and your property and if there's anything to work with then they will investigate and attempt to identify who committed a crime.
WHAT MORE WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT YOU CAN'T?

I only posted that because it might have been connected, who knows. theres no need for clever comments
At least you called the police, I'm glad you had enough faith in the justice system to believe that they might be able to do something. The incident with the shovel where the police told you to leave it where it was and not touch it is the same that should be applied to all evidence. It is not for us to say what is important or not.
In my view the police do the best that they are able to do. Given the recruitment process nowadays it is unlikely people would want to join just to toss it off.
I have had the police called on various occasions to deal with or help various people in my time in Sheffield and have found them nothing short of professional and considerate, with the amount of red tape surrounding them it's a wonder they manage to arrest anybody at all.
It's about time people got behind the police force and supported them instead of criticising all the time. There are plenty of volunteer options, if you feel you could do any better why not get involved and get a better view of what life in the police is like.
It's all too easy to point the finger at others all the time.
Wizzzard 27-12-2005, 17:21 That above post was from me btw , would hate for my partner to suddenly develop such an extreme point of view :)

Here here! Couldn't have said it better myself! Sheffield Police are en excellent force and you should be proud to have the police officers that you do have! I've found on my dealings with them that they are very friendly, helpful as well as professional and considerate. Time should be taken to give each and every one of them a pat on the back, the police aren't to blame for the justice system, they're just doing their jobs.
sheff_minx 27-12-2005, 21:39 Slightly OT, but sometimes it isn't the material value of what's been stolen that matters...
I work in a jewellers and, on Xmas eve, we had a (fairly young) woman come in who was trying to replace some jewellery that had been stolen from her bedroom whilst she was asleep in her living room. I spent well over an hour with her, but she left with only a few items and in a very emotional state as she realised that no matter how much she spent, she could not replace things such as her engagement ring, a locket with a picture of her dead child etc. I had to go into the back room and have a little weep when she'd gone, especially as the police had said there was nothing they could really do due to lack of evidence (although she also said that they were very good to her - professional and supportive, but tied by red tape)
I also think the police deserve a hell of a lot more respect for the job that they do, and most of the time they do not deserve the slagging they get - I think most feel the same as us about the lighthearted way criminals are treated in this country - after all they put a lot of time and effort into catching thieves, only for the justice system to let them off at the last hurdle.

muffingal 27-12-2005, 23:02 Hi i too live in wincobank and we are having the same problems on our street. We have never had anything like this before but for the last week or so we have had intruders on our back gardens which back on to hinde house field. Dont know if this is of any help but we have been clock watching and its 7.30 every night. My husband and a few other residents waited for them and gave them a bit of a mouth full and a run for their money when they discovered them trying to break into next doors shed to steal her mobiliy scooter and we all got nice deep key marks down the paint work of our cars.. We too have reported it to the police because of the damage they have done to our fence and the fact they stole 24 cans of pepsi from my garden(hope they are sick) and the daMAGE TO OUR CARS.

I can't help but picture a 12 year-old internet-geek virgin when I read that.
What a hard man, how can the women of Sheffield resist?
Oh and by the way seeing as you think the police are so useless - who ya gonna call the second anything bad happens to you?
Oh that's right, SYP.

you could leave out some bottles of coke liberally doses with laxatives for the next time they visit.
Or dig a 4 foot trench on your side of your fence, then cover it over with a tarp or something. Just tell the police to stake out the hospital for a couple of blokes with ankle injuries.

I resent that remark. I hate people who generalise. we have lived in Wincobank for 40 years and seen it change into what it is today. We oursleves don't like some people of the who are 'moved into' the area, but are powerless to do anything about it. Please don't tarnish us as the same as them - WE ARE NOT!!!!
muffingal 02-01-2006, 22:11 j1364Hi i agree anj1364 we have lived in wincobank for a good 12 years and its lovely where we live(except the recent trouble with intruders in the gardens) The thing is the ones who are causing the upset dont even live round here they have just arrived up here because they have been driven away from their normal hanging out places because the police have put a curfew on them so now we have plumped for them. So as said by the previous post please dont tarnish us all the same cos we are not, most of us are hard working decent folk .
rig up a shed burglar alarm, two or three car horns from the scrap yard, couple of spot lights, car battery and a switch fitted in the door jamb, switch from a fridge would work ok
briggy1967 02-01-2006, 23:50 Invalid User is Right in his post
If the xxxxxxxxx have the bottle to try and rob you of the things that you have worked hard for then they have the bottle to recieve everything they get when you catch them.I live in Shiregreen and though its not as bad as people think crime does happen and was burgled about 8 years ago,i spent the whole morning looking for them and if i found them i would have beat the cr*p out of them.....and still would if i found them now.
The police did nothing as there isnt much they can do,its just another statistic and another unsolved crime.
Look after your own and if anyone tries to take it then defend it with everything you can.
The scum deserve what they get.
