I'm coming to live in Sheffield soon. Despite always loving watching and playing football, I've never supported a team before. Which should I choose and why? Which is the people's team and why?

you can't just turn up and pick a team, you are born to a team,or you aren't.Support you local wherever you hil from.

But if you want pointer,go for the owls,as they have the more evolved fans!

What if you weren't born in the UK? Here we go again. I've lived in the UK since I was 2. Does that mean I can't support a team?

If you want to support a sheffield football team, i would recommend the Blades, they still play football and they are actually based in sheffield, not miles outside on the way to barnsley!

Just go to both teams and make your mind up after a few games.

Tip - One ground is nr the town centre:thumbsup:

U shud support where ur from really, wherever u went wen u were 2. If not then yeh just go to both and c which atmosphere u like best. Im a Wednesday fan and i feel uncomfortable round the lane. Feel at home at hillsborough. So i reckon that wud be the best way to do it.

this is not the right place to ask that question..two sets of fans who will both say watch their team cause theirs is the best and the other team smells etc etc...Its like kindergarten..yawn yawn.
I would go watch both and make your own mind up

Quite right mimicraze!

The fact is that Wednesday are the bigger club, with a much better ground and far more history.

The fact that they are a bit down at heel at the moment means that you can not be accused of being a glory hunter...and you will have the thrill of watching them climb the leagues. United have peaked and I see a decade of dissapointment ahead for them. They are not a friendly as wednesdayites either.

Also...how do you imagine hell? Red and black yes?

Whereas heaven......white marble pillars against a bright blue sky.

Yes that's right...blue and white stripes.

Support the Owls.....you know it erm....makes sense.

I don't want to start any childish fights between fans and want to help you out in a civilised manner. So lets work this out in a mature way.
1.Sheffield United smell.
2.United = Tito, Wednesday = Michael.
3.Sheffield United smell.
4.Wednesday are a higher pedigree team, more sophisticated fans, better ground, more famous, wear blue and white ( better than girly red ), better known for big name signings, nicer atmosphere, great fans, dont have to sing about chip butties, have their own band, famous kop, beat united in semi-final etc .
5. Sheffield United smell.

but you make up your own mind, in a fair, mature manner.

Only one team in Sheffield to support and that's Wednesday.

Not as friendly fans, more sophisticated - you're speaking out your collective arses now.

Wednesday have always been bigger, more famous and well known than that other cabbage patch field called Bramall lane where so many vegetables have cropped up.

Sheffield United have always been & will always be the toilet of Sheffield, a dumping ground for fresh fertilizer. Just sniff up next time you're passing and smell the waste!

Come on over to Bramall Lane love. It's near town so there's not much travelling to be done & all the Unitedites will welcome you with open arms. You can even go home after & tell all your friends you've just been to the world's oldest major football ground.

Like them Wednesday fans say we've never won bugger all - well not for nearly 80 years but we've kept our sense of humour & we all like to have a good laugh at where Wednesday are now.

Yes, get yourself to 'Beautiful Downtown Bramall Lane'. You'll love it.

It's great down here in division 2

At least we dont have high expectations of getting to the play offs only to miss out at the last hurdle and start calling for the managers head on a plate(with an apple in his mouth i suppose)

Up the owls

I'd rather miss out on the playoffs than be in Division 2 (although we still have a good chance anyway) - seems to me like you're just bitter, but that's to be expected :)

i would never be bitter or jealous of a pig.

the blunts only have fairweather fans anyway.
You watch next season when they fail to go up,the gates will fall, only the pie munching burberry brigade will be out then

I would pick Sheffield Wednesday.
I understand that if you get to the game early enough and providing you know what a football looks like, you have a good chance of getting picked to play.

Good Friday
Sheffield Wednesday.

Bank holidays aren't they?

If you're not currently a supporter then there's nothing to stop you supporting both teams!
I'm a Wednesday man myself, but even I have to admit that, while the ground and atmosphere at Hillsborough are much better than Bramall Lane, the standard of football at the moment is disappointing. Hopefully Turner will make some changes next season and maybe get some money invested in players...
I'd say go to Wednesday for a good day out and United for a better class of football.

Lestat

WHAT!!! JONNYBOY! Are you really a wednesdayite? A better class of football???????????????????????????????????????

They wouldn't know what a football is if it was painted in illuminous pink and tied to their shapely pig-like heads!!
