View Full Version : Pressure gone in my boiler
gina2007 31-05-2011, 10:04 :help:
I can't get in touch with the person who sorts my boiler out!
Its a valliant combi. Pressure has totally gone, 0.5 mb.... taken a rad off last night but it was dripping slightly out the pipe so put a bowl under it, less than a pint in like 13hours has gone out of it, but I dont know if I should try and put some pressure back into the boiler or not?
Can anyone let me know if I should or not? I need to wash my pots and my boiler is giving me some right crap its making a vibrating noise everytime I turn the hot tap on!!
gina2007 31-05-2011, 10:40 Sorted for now.
I may be back later with another problem :|
leelister6 31-05-2011, 13:48 If you're losing pressure it's most probably down to a leak somewhere. You need to get it sorted as it won't get any better on it's own. And running the boiler for hot water with no pressure in C/H circuit will cause boiler to lock out
gina2007 31-05-2011, 14:44 I turned the pressure back up, but then my plasterer came so just switched the thing off. I've no leaks upstairs, checked all rad pipes and ceiling etc, and there doesnt appear to be any in the kitchen, so far. Unless its the rad pipe (the pipe with the TRV on it) that is causing it to loose its pressure. Cant, or wont, check under the living room floor as I have laminate down and I am not pulling that up! I will get my landlord to fix it if its under the floor cause I can claim for LL to pay for flooring  Stupid boiler, or stupid me for taking the rad off :(
gina2007 31-05-2011, 14:46 Oh and I cant switch on the boiler til tomorrow night anyway now, as i've had to remove the flue for plasterer to skim behind it. The flue runs a good, 1.8mtr across the kitchen - whats that about?! Why the damn thing wasnt put closer to the outside wall in the first place I dont know!!!!

Sometimes TRV's don't turn off completely. I usually make up a fitting to cap off the outlet of the TRV. You should also check the discharge pipe from the boiler pressure relief valve (Should be a short piece of 15mm copper through wall to outside from underneath boiler) Sometimes these can pass slightly
gina2007 31-05-2011, 14:53 the TRV hasnt turned off properly, hence the bowl under the pipe to catch the water. I was expecting the rad to be off a max of 1 day but it wont be put back on til probably Thursday evening. If not the weekend as I need to paint behind it after plasterer has finished.
I will just use the kettle to wash my pots and shower at my mother in laws til that rad is back on, if its still loosing pressure then im buggered!

Tampering with a flue is ILLEGAL if you're not gas safe reg! This needs to be put back by a GSR engineer and all the seals etc checked. Also, there is a maximum length for flues which is specified in your boilers manual. You need to make sure the boiler was fitted correctly and has been serviced within the last 12 months or is due for doing
If the flue is incorrectly fitted there is a VERY REAL chance of CO poisoning!

Woahh, I being the person who sorts my boiler out/his work mates (who are gas safe!). Its fitted correct, trust me and its serviced every year - if it wasnt my LL would get screwed over, twice. The boiler is switched off, and the flue has to come off until plastering work has been done, theres no way around it. And it will be fitted, and tested again, by the guys I know who are gas safe when its back on. I'm not daft, honestly, i'm female maybe but im not daft. I posted this, when I couldnt get hold of the lads, because the pressure was going. That is all....! :|
leelister6 31-05-2011, 15:14 Fair enough, Will keep me gob shut in future!
