Sorry if this is a duplicate thread but did a search and couldn't find anything here on the subject.

I am thinking of doing a hypnobirth class for my second baby. (not due till April but doing my research now!). My first birth was very hard going and I am determined this time is going to be more chilled...:)

Does anyone have experience of hypnobirthing - good or bad. Does it work??! And can anyone recommend a teacher.

Thank you!

Although i have no personal experience of hypnobirthing i know of a hypnobirthing teacher, she's actually a forum member herself. Im not sure how she'll be fixed at the min as she's just had a baby herself but im sure she'l be able to point you in the right direction if not! here's her website http://sheffieldhypnobirthing.co.uk there's lots of interesting info on there!

Hi,

I have just had my 2nd baby and my labour was extremely different this time. First time I was induced, on a drip, had an epidural, had ventouse, was cut and tore and had many stitches. This time I went into labour by myself, felt the first pain at 6.30pm, didn't think I was definitely in labour until 8.30pm and she was born 10.46pm! I had some damage but didn't have to have any stitches. People say it's quicker and easier 2nd time and I certainly found this to be the case so fingers crossed for you.

This time we only just got to the hospital in time and therefore I didn't have any pain relief. I didn't do hypnobirthing classes as I couldn't afford to but I did use the Natal Hypnotherapy birth CD. They also do others you can buy. The CD really helped me to focus on my breathing and I said 321 Relax (a key phrase on the CD) to help calm me down and used other bits of imagery off the CD. I already felt the need to push before we left the house and the journey to hospital was awful. I think without using ideas from the CD I'd have been more panicky then I was. So it might be worth checking out the CDs online and seeing what you think. You basically listen over and over again and the positive suggestions become part of your thinking and you learn ways to manage the pain. If you do decide to buy search for discount codes on the net as I got 20% off I think.

I'm planning a HypnoBirthing Picnic for Sunday August 1st in the afternoon.
It is a wonderful opportunity to meet HypnoBirthing families both with bumps and those who have given birth to their beautiful babies. There is time for sharing birth stories all together as well as chatting and getting to know other families in the area. We all have a lovely time! I will also be demonstrating a variety of slings on the day which you may like to look into for your baby.

It would be lovely to see you there, even if you don't choose to do the HypnoBirthing course yourself. I ask people to bring along a bit of food or drink to share. Do let me know if you can attend, then I'll send you the precise details by return. Feel free to extend this invitation to anyone you know who is pregnant in the area, the more the merrier!!! PM me for more info :)

Thought I would bump up this thread as just wanted to update with my experience of hynobirthing, so far!

I have been having classes with the lovely OllieKitten (above) from www.birthpeacefully.co.uk and she has completely put me at ease, and I am now looking forward to labour!

I am not a stressed person but I am very impatient, so wanted to be able to relax myself pre and during labour. I have learnt some amazing techniques, and my husband has been able to feel a lot more involved too! Before he was worried about me being in pain and him not being able to do anything, whereas hypnobirth has helped give him a role during labour, and spend more time with bump beforehand!

I would say the classes are perfect for any mum to be wanting to have a calm labour - the videos of ther mums are just amazing, and I am sure my labour will be just as positive. Hypnobirthing has also taght me some great relaxation tips, which i can use after labour too. For anyone feeling sceptical, I wasn't sure that it would 'work' for me, but the music and scripts put me in such a state of calmness that I totally feel in a trance! If I'm relaxed, then my body will be relaxed, so less pain - brilliant!

Most of all, Olliekitten is an amazing woman, and someone I feel I can turn to with any stupid question, even if not hypnobirth related!

Hope to read about other people's experiences!

I can highly recommend any type of hypnosis for birth. I hypnotised my OH before the birth of our little un and she said it made a huge difference. I have never been on a Hypnobirthing course but I have spoken to a few mums who had a great time doing it. I have also spoken to one person who didn't have such a great time with Hypnobirthing. She was told that "she would feel no pain" - those exact words were used apparently! When it came to the big day she did feel some pain and because she still had those words ringing in her ears she doubted everything that she had been told.
I am not saying this will be everyone's experience but it was what she told me about hers.

I have spoken to someone who offers something similar but different to Hypnobirthing. http://www.thelazydaisychain.co.uk is the fastest growing pregnancy, active birth & baby programme in the UK and seems to be a LOT cheaper than Hypnobirthing!

Just suggesting alternatives! Anything that can help mum's to be to have a happier and more enjoyable birth experience can only be a good thing! The power of hypnosis is amazing!

I'm very sorry to hear of your friend's experience, that is not a part of the HypnoBirthing syllabus. We don't refer to pain at all.

You do get what you pay for and HypnoBirthing is seen as the Gold Standard of Birthing education

Why HypnoBirthing?
HypnoBirthing covers everything you need for a peaceful and comfortable birth. We teach you how wonderful your birthing body is and give you confidence in it and your baby to birth easily. You will learn a variety of different birthing positions that can aid you through birth. Deep breathing as an aid to relaxation and to help with the birthing process.

Here are some of the things you'll learn that are not covered in most antenatal classes.
Complete involvement for the birthing partner - this is as important a time for the Dad as it is the Mum afterall.
How to massively reduce the need for any medication at all
Breathing techniques that help the birth (not the panting that most people think they have to do.)
How to reduce your risk of needing an episiotomy during birth with a stunningly simple massage technique
How to be confident and informed when dealing with the medical staff - when to question, what to ask...and when it's time to let them take charge
How to release any fears you might have about childbirth...regardless of where they come from
How to bring about your own easy start of labour with these simple, natural techniques, if you go beyond your "estimated due date"
Most importantly, you'll know how to relax and stay calm and in control - regardless of what's happening around you

I used Natal hypnotherapy.

I had someone come to my home and do a class with me and my husband. I went from having a massive fear of fear and the give me all the drugs possible camp to being more relaxed about it and attempted a drug free birth.

I practiced the techniques learnt and used the CD's to help me. It did really help me and with out it I would have stuggled. I did in the end have drugs but I ended up having a difficult labour but definately it helped me both to repare mentally before and for the days that i was in labour for running up to the birth. If you cannot afford the classes I do recommend the CD's. I used to fill the bath up and and put it on in the bathroom with lights turned down and I practiced my relaxation and breathing techniques there.

In January I will be running an intensive Hypnobirthing workshop covering two days. You will get everything that you would in my private classes but as it is an intensive class I am able to offer it at a much cheaper rate - 61% off at £120

As a member of both The HypnoBirthing Institute in America and The Hypnobirthing Association in England I am highly trained to offer you the very best of these two superb organisations.

In this intensive course you will learn how to work with your body - not against it. You will learn how to deeply relax, how to breathe effectively for an easier and smooth birth, exactly what happens to your body during labour and what to expect, light touch massage to release endorphins, visualisation. Your partner will be fully involved and empowered by their knowledge of the birthing process.

You will learn all you need to have the best birth for you and your baby.
The Hypnobirthing courses are deeply relaxed and enjoyable and provide you with support and confidence up to and beyond the birth of your baby. Your birthing partner will play a key role throughout your pregnancy and child birth, something which is very lacking in other antenatal education classes. Through Hypnobirthing your partner will be able to help make your labour and delivery a loving, shared experience, a beautiful start to your life together.

And you will receive:

The HypnoBirthing® CD "Rainbow Relaxation and Birth Affirmations"

The Hypnobirthing Association's 3 CDs of relaxation scripts (RRP £45)

CD of Relaxation Music

Course Handouts and Scripts

Pm me now to book now for January.

i can definitely reccommend Hypnobirthing to anyone who is unsure! I booked a course with Birth Peacefully and found it invaluable for labour, and the build up! My hubby also really enjoyed being able to feel more involved by being able to help me focus on breathing techniques, and perform light touch massage.

Hypnobirthing is all about having the birth that you want, and not having any fears. I gave birth two weeks ago and had been so 'unafraid' that i was really looking forward to labour! In the end I had a few complications which meant I couldnt have the natural birth i ideally wanted, but the skills i had learnt helped me through regardless!

please feel free to message me with any questions!

Wishing all pregnant members a peaceful birth in 2012. Birth does not have to be something you fear and can be something to enjoy. Don't be afraid, relax and allow your body and your baby to do what they were both designed for :) x
Happy New Year
